russia has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian transport and port infrastructure in recent days. Civilian vessels in the Mykolaiv region have been attacked, as well as transport infrastructure in the Odesa region and the bridge between Slovyansk and Kramatorsk in the east. Warehouses of carriers and retail chains have also been set on fire.

In July 2026, russia fired 376 missiles into Ukraine, a record monthly number since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than double the June figure (161), Le Figaro reports. https://www.lefigaro.fr/international/guerre-en-ukraine-la-russie-a-tire-un-nombre-record-de-missiles-en-juillet-20260801

Ukraine, however, continues to attack warehouses of retailer Wildberries and oil refineries in russia with drones. One of the downed drones crashed on a beach in Gelendzhik in southern russia, killing several russians and injuring nearly two dozen. https://www.bbc.com/russian/live/cp8x50y7gn0t

Attacks on Ukrainians continue in Poland. These are mostly isolated cases against women and children, but this is also becoming something common. https://inpoland.net.pl/

In Odesa, during an attempt to capture a man, the latter began shooting at workers at a mobilization center, wounding four of them. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/368283-v-odesi-cholovik-vidkryv-vohon-po-pratsivnykakh-ttsk-ie-poraneni

President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Rustem Umerov (who was previously the Minister of Defense) as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, and Ihor Klymenko, the former Minister of Internal Affairs, as the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, replacing Umerov in this position. According to Zelensky, the new head of the Foreign Intelligence Service will coordinate work on concluding international agreements in the field of drones. Umerov will also continue to deal with diplomatic issues and the negotiation process with the United States. https://kurs.com.ua/novost/1472586-zelenskii-oficialno-oformil-naznachenie-umerova-i-klimenko-na-novie-dolzhnosti

Very strange tasks for intelligence. It seems that these people are now indispensable in the president's team, which is rapidly shrinking, so appointments are made not based on qualifications and the functionality of the position, but on personal preferences. Also, his former associates often turn into his enemies. As happened with his former press secretary Yulia Mendel, who gave an interview to the French Le Journal du Dimanche entitled "Zelensky is the main beneficiary of this war." https://www.lejdd.fr/International/exclusif-corruption-derive-autoritaire-iuliia-mendel-ex-porte-parole-de-zelensky-se-confie-au-jdd-180306

She harshly criticizes Volodymyr Zelensky and the current government and claims that the war allows the current president to remain in power by canceling the elections, and the conflict itself has allegedly become the basis of his political survival. According to Mendel, companies associated with Zelensky's entourage receive billions of euros in aid from the European Union. She notes that she has noticed signs of manipulation, censorship, and a retreat from democracy since the summer of 2022. Mendel believes that it is extremely important for Zelensky that "the whole world applauds him," which is why he allegedly believed in an artificially created image that identifies him with the entire country. She also criticized the methods of the mobile centers, calling them illegal, and called on the West to contribute to the early end of the war. https://www.facebook.com/iuliia.mendel.2025/posts/pfbid03fudhxEg3f614Md9Tb3hGEisWxpa41tUEYxTidtYhALaZsCHwTpjEC3eiN5ZbWbXl

On the night of August 1, the russians again attacked Ukraine with strike UAVs, as well as air- and ground-based missiles of various types, but only managed to shoot down 2 missiles out of more than three dozen. https://www.unian.ua/war/iz-27-balistik-zbili-lishe-odnu-povitryani-sili-rozpovili-pro-nichnu-ataku-rosiji-13457619.html

At least nine people have been killed and dozens injured in russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv. Officially, there are reports of the destruction of residential buildings and the enterprise serving the city hospital, including 5 completely destroyed and 20 more ambulances damaged. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce973yvk7pko

I saw several large columns of smoke and my friend in the neighboring area said that there was a hit to one of the largest thermal power plants (TPP-5) in Kyiv. This is confirmed by information from another person who said that the electricity went out in his house which is powered by this TPP. Well, the stakes have risen again and the probability of the lack of heating and electricity at least in Kyiv is more than real.

More and more often, explosions are heard simultaneously with sirens. Most people died while they were running to shelters. Even for healthy people, these sleepless nights are a difficult ordeal, and it is very difficult for me too.

It is significant that the raids, which have recently been supplemented by temporary checkpoints, continued in the morning as usual. Even the existence of a map indicating the presence of "blues" and "greens," as cops and manhunters are popularly called, does not guarantee encounters with their cars randomly driving around the area.

President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Fox News asked whether the issue of Crimea is back on the agenda? He has said "It's a pity – not. Or not yet. We will see, I don't know. The most important between us. The land is very important, it is our territory, it is our history, it's about our houses. But the most important not to lose people." https://www.foxnews.com/media/zelenskyy-says-putin-lost-initiative-ukraine-tech-industry-reshapes-war

So the liberation of russian-occupied Crimea is not currently under discussion in the negotiations.

Today, as a result of an air raid in Kyiv, a well-known antique flea market from Soviet times burned down.

On the night of July 30, russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine in several waves with ballistic missiles, hypersonic Zircons, Shaheds, and cruise missiles from the air and sea. The first wave of strikes on Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Kryvyi Rih occurred after 1 a.m., and the second wave with cruise missiles began after 3:35 a.m. - mainly in western Ukraine, in particular Lviv. At 5 a.m., russia struck Kyiv again with ballistic missiles, and at 5:30 a.m. a new attack with cruise missiles began from the north.

Six people have already been reported dead in Kryvyi Rih - three of them children. This is all one large family. One person died in Kyiv and one person died near Poltava. In Lviv, two high-rise buildings were severely damaged, a rescue operation and clearing of rubble are underway, the number of injured has increased to 37, including children, one child was hospitalized. One person has been found dead under the rubble so far. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c4gjkkxy45do
https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/crmrv810y77o

This time, one of the russian missiles flew into Poland. It caused a 10m-wide (33ft) crater a short distance from the village of Tarnawa Kolonia, 92km (57 miles) from the border with Ukraine. Although no casualties had been reported in the incident, the Polish prime minister made clear it was being taken very seriously. There was no immediate threat as it had not landed in a built-up area, he said, adding that "we were prepared to shoot it down if had continued its flight". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwymkgenv2ro

In fact, this means that the Polish air defense simply could not intercept this missile and clearly demonstrated this to russia, which can not only provoke NATO with such events, but also test its air defense capabilities.

I feel unwell all the time and I only have 3-4 hours of productive work a day. The rest of the time I just lie down and try to calm down my high blood pressure and irregular heart rhythm.

In an interview with Ukrainska Pravda, Fedorov argues that his removal wasn’t driven by personal conflicts but by his efforts to reform Ukraine’s defense procurement system. At the same time, he did not name a single person or company that his reforms had hindered, nor did he criticize the authorities. Instead, much of his speech resembles an election campaign.

One of the interesting coincidences is that it was at this time that the mobilization reforms he had prepared were scheduled to be launched. So now the issue of mobilization will be dealt with by other people with a different vision. So far, it has been significantly intensified using the same tools, accompanied by violence and corruption.

In Kyiv, while undergoing a military medical examination, a man attacked a female doctor with a knife, resulting in her death. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cm2g092xxjyo

In Kharkiv, a lawyer who was brutally beaten in a mobilization center while performing her duties last year has been recognized as disabled. After a year of fruitless investigations in Ukraine, the lawyer has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, said Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. https://tsn.ua/ukrayina/vyyshla-z-ttsk-z-invalidnistiu-rezonansna-sprava-pobytoyi-advokatky-diyshla-do-yespl-foto-3129623.html

One of the first decisions of the new commander-in-chief, Drapaty, was to change the leadership of the ground forces, but we will not see when and what consequences will occur immediately. https://texty.org.ua/fragments/117987/pershi-kadrovi-rishennya-drapatoho-zvilneno-heneraliv-syrskoho-u-suxoputnyx-vijskax-i-syl-lohistyky/

The publication “Texts” published an investigation by journalist Anna Kalyuzhna about the 225th separate assault regiment. As stated in the publication on the website Texty.org.ua, several dozen people provided testimony for this investigation: servicemen of the 225th separate assault regiment (current and those who are hiding from persecution by deserting), servicemen of adjacent and affiliated units, relatives of missing persons.

They testify to the following: in the 225th separate assault regiment, they are threatened with executions, “and even shoot at their own people” (the regiment itself denies the existence of “barrier battalions”); between assaults, the servicemen are kept “as if in prison”; those “who are guilty” are thrown into “pits”, tied to the “tree of truth” and brutally beaten. https://texty.org.ua/articles/117979/nykakyx-svoyx-ne-sushchestvuet-zahorodzhuvalni-zahony-yamy-i-derevo-pravdy-vijskovi-svidchat-pro-225-polk/

The State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is conducting a large-scale special operation "Honest Draft". Investigative actions are taking place in more than 100 mobilization centers of various levels in most regions of Ukraine.

The main attention of law enforcement officers is focused on the facts of facilitating mobilization evasion for money, as well as abuse of official authority by military personnel of mobilization centers, in particular, beatings and torture of conscripts. https://dbr.gov.ua/news/operaciya-chesnij-prizov-dbr-provodit-obshuki-u-ponad-100-tck-po-vsij-ukraini

Although it is only the middle of summer and there are missel attacks almost every night, I am most concerned about what will happen in the winter. Due to the intensification of russian attacks, Ukraine has lost about a third of its ability to export grain through its key Black Sea ports.

Ukraine exports over $2 billion worth of agricultural products every month. And the lack of these funds will very quickly be felt in both the budget and the foreign exchange market.

Due to the inability to export the new year's harvest, grain prices will fall, and producers will receive less profit - if at all.

Prices for imported products may increase - both due to tension in the foreign exchange market and the growth of the dollar, and due to the increase in the cost of logistics for imports, which also went through seaports. And even if the ports are unblocked, freight will obviously increase - in both directions.

We should also not forget about another large industry, metallurgy, the production volumes of which, although they decreased during the war with the loss of several key enterprises, still remained quite significant for the Ukrainian economy, which is oriented towards exports.

So in general, the blockade of seaports deals a painful blow to the economy, manufacturers, the inflow of foreign exchange into Ukraine, and therefore - to its ability to finance its defense.

There is another important aspect in the situation with the actual suspension of the work of Ukrainian seaports. This is the preparation for a new series of peace negotiations, which is quite obviously taking place on both the Ukrainian and russian sides, as well as in the USA - currently the main mediator. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c89ny7513jeo

The US has suspended attacks on Iran and some analysts attribute this to the depletion of stocks of certain types of weapons. The critical munitions used in the war span two categories: long-range ground attack systems, and the air and missile defences used to intercept incoming Iranian attacks. More than 1,000 Tomahawks have been fired during the war, the CSIS estimates, and the stockpile may not return to pre-war levels until 2031. Of the air defence systems used in the war, the most heavily used was the Patriot, a ground-based missile used to target aircraft, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. According to the CSIS estimate, as many as 1,430 were used during the conflict from an estimated pre-war stockpile of about 2,330. Each Patriot interceptor costs approximately $4m - an expensive but effective option repeatedly used to shoot down Iranian drones that themselves only cost between $20,000-50,000 each. Also used was a newer, more sophisticated system known as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, which has a longer range and higher intercept altitudes than the older Patriot. Supplies were already limited, with CSIS estimating that between 190 and 290 were fired out of an estimated pre-war stock of 360. With only nine THAAD batteries operational in the world - and seven of them American - sustained expenditure could leave US forces without a system that would be critical to defending ballistic missile threats from countries such as russia, China or North Korea.

The apparent tension between arming allies and preserving US reserves is one that has already been played out over Ukraine. Back in October 2025, months before Operation Epic Fury began, Trump declined to give Ukraine Tomahawks, citing a need to avoid depleting US stockpiles. The episode was a preview of the trade-offs now shaping the post-Iran debate over the wider arsenal. Ukrainian officials say they urgently need Patriots and other air defence systems to stem wave after wave of russian drone and missile attacks. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0qvnk2ezp7o

President Donald Trump has held separate meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Zelensky and Trump discussed Kyiv's hope that the US would help bolster its air defences.

Netanyahu, for his part, arrived at a time when US-Israel ties have been frayed by diverging views on Iran. Ahead of the visit, Zelensky was expected to press Trump to follow through on a promise he made at this month's Nato summit to grant Ukraine a licence to produce Patriot interceptor missiles.

Ukraine has long sought American Patriot missiles, which Kyiv says could be used to defend Ukrainian cities from escalating russian drone and ballistic missile attacks across the country. While there was no official US confirmation of military assistance to Ukraine, Zelenksy said afterwards that Trump had agreed to give Ukraine licences for domestic production of Patriot missiles. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj4k2z8z45ro

I don't know what's behind these statements, because common sense suggests that if the US cannot produce a sufficient number of Patriots at existing factories with its huge economy, then how can Ukraine do it, in which these factories first need to be built while russia destroys even small production facilities with missiles and drones, and financial capabilities depend on EU funding?

It is also obvious that there is great competition between Ukraine and Israel for US military assistance. Besides, U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has told members of Congress it will not finish spending $400 million Congress has authorized for aid to Ukraine until fiscal year 2029, even as Kyiv runs critically low on weapons it needs to fend off russian missile attacks. https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/pentagon-says-it-will-not-finish-spending-ukraine-funds-until-year-trump-leaves-2026-07-27/

But smiles for the cameras do not mean real attitudes at all, and as I predicted earlier, Trump's personal attitude towards Zelensky had a major impact on the US attitude towards Ukraine, which was reflected in a significant reduction in aid. Scott Bessent, the US treasury secretary, advised Donald Trump not to host Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, having called the Ukrainian president a “little fucker”, a “special-needs child” and “Mr Bean on crack”, according to a new book. The suggestion that a US cabinet official described a world leader in such terms is included in Regime Change, a blockbusting account of the second Trump administration by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, set to be published worldwide on Tuesday. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/20/scott-bessent-volodymyr-zelenskyy-trump

We must also remember that not only Ukraine, but also Europe will have problems with gas, which will certainly affect its policy. The CEO of Europe's largest supplier of ‌natural gas expects the region to fall short of its goal to fill gas storage sites to 80% of capacity before the winter, hampered by market tightness that has increased competition from buyers in Asia. Gas volumes at European storage sites are significantly lower than the five-year average and at their second-lowest level in 15 years, Equinor (EQNR.OL), opens new tab chief Anders Opedal told Reuters. As a result of lower gas storage levels, which currently stand at 54%, Europe will be more exposed to market price swings ‌this winter than in previous winters, he added. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/europe-unlikely-reach-80-gas-storage-target-equinor-ceo-says-2026-07-22/

And in Ukraine, where the Cabinet of Ministers is essentially an executive body of the President's Office, the new Prime Minister faces the impossible task of preparing the country for an extremely difficult winter without a Minister of Defense and under the previous team, which he was not allowed to change. And without changing the system, things will not get better. After all, according to rumors, one of the reasons why Fedorov was removed from the Cabinet of Ministers was precisely because he undertook to optimize the procurement system, which created a threat of large-scale corruption.

Hromadske stated that their journalist Yevgeny Shulgat was detained by law enforcement officers for allegedly violating military registration rules and taken to a mobilization center. This journalist was again investigating cases of corruption in law enforcement agencies. https://hromadske.ua/suspilstvo/268379-u-kyyevi-politsiia-zatrymala-zurnalista-hromadske

This time, after a big fuss in the media, he was released on the same day, but it is so reminiscent of what is happening in russia. Restricting property rights, blocking all bank cards, taking away a driver’s license, closing access to state services and programs, banning participation in political life, this is a complete list of punitive sanctions that russia has adopted against “foreign agents.”

And this is what they propose to apply in Ukraine to everyone who does not agree to become a slave to the system, placing the function of the penetrative system on the army.
