At night, Ukraine was attacked by almost a hundred drones, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. russia shelled the Kirovohrad region, leaving five settlements without electricity. Kharkiv was bombed with aerial bombs. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c8drp377j0qo

The energy infrastructure of the Kharkiv and Sumy regions was also affected by russian strikes. https://www.dsnews.ua/ukr/politics/voysko-rf-udarilo-po-energeticheskim-obektam-v-dvuh-regionah-minenergo-14102025-530229

It is quiet in Kyiv today, but due to overload and an accident on high-voltage lines, power outages occurred in Pechersk, Holosiivsky and Shevchenkivsky districts.
https://rubryka.com/2025/10/14/u-kyyevi-chastkovo-znykla-elektryka-fahivtsi-pratsyuyut-nad-vidnovlennyam-energopostachannya/

Emergency power outages were applied in Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as partially in Kirovohrad, Kyiv and Cherkasy regions. The air temperature at night approaches freezing and the additional load on the network is noticeable.

The Attorney General's Office has referred the case of the interim head of the Zolochiv District Mobilization Center to court for illegally mobilizing a man who was the sole guardian of his 82-year-old paralyzed father. He faces a fine of approximately $800 or 15 days in jail. https://novosti-n.org/ua/news/Kerivnyka-TCZK-sudytymut-za-nezakonnu-mobilizacziyu-opikuna-paralizovanogo-pensionera-325112#image-2

A large-scale clash involving representatives of the mobilization center, police, and local residents took place in Ternopil on the evening of October 13. After that, the mobilization center announced that it would involve combat units in the mobilization. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343561-v-ternopole-proizoshla-massovaya-draka-mezhdu-sotrudnikami-ttsk-politsiey-i-grazhdanskimi-smi

Ukrainian law enforcement officers opened almost 290,000 criminal cases for unauthorized abandonment of a unit and desertion from January 2022 to September 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office reported. https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2025/10/14/8002654/ Interestingly, this number is many times higher than the capacity of Ukrainian prisons. https://fakty.com.ua/ua/ukraine/20240522-skilky-uvyaznenyh-v-ukrayini-u-2024-roczi-tochna-kilkist-lyudej-v-tyurmah-i-sizo/

The well-known author and presenter Ramina Eshakzai published a photo showing the terrible conditions in the distribution mobilization center in Kyiv, where mobilized people are taken and kept there until they are sent to military units. Some spend a long time there. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343604-raspredelitelnyy-tsentr-na-dvrz-kuda-dostavlyaet-ttsk-vyglyadit-khuzhe-kolonii-foto

The mobilization center immediately denied this and said that these materials were not confirmed and did not necessarily reflect the real state of affairs. https://www.facebook.com/KyivMTCK/posts/1115822847389013?ref=embed_post Although those who were there immediately recognized the place from the photo. It is noteworthy that russian prisoners are kept in much better conditions. https://t.me/truexanewsua/123590

Fresh from Middle East victory, Trump sets his sights on peace in Ukraine, writes The Wall Street Journal. https://www.wsj.com/world/trump-ukraine-russia-israel-hamas-peace-deal-19456632?mod=Searchresults&pos=1&page=1

US President Donald Trump will welcome his Ukrainian counterpart to Washington on Friday for talks about how they can force russia’s Vladimir putin to the negotiating table, including through the possibility of supplying American-made Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv.

Stacie Pettyjohn, director of the defence programme at the Center for a New American Security think-tank, said Washington could spare some 20 to 50 Tomahawks for Ukraine, “which will not decisively shift the dynamics of the war”, writes Financial Times. https://www.ft.com/content/fe9e2704-c39d-42e7-8bcb-dc9ae9748a3e

For more than a decade, Poland has been preparing for the worst-case scenario of becoming the front line of defense in a possible war between russia and the West. Given russia’s growing aggression in Europe, Polish military strategists have been actively strengthening the country’s armed forces, turning Poland into the largest European army in NATO by 2024.

This year, Warsaw increased military spending to 4.7% of GDP, the highest among all members of the alliance, writes The Wall Street Journal. Large-scale multi-billion dollar purchases have made Poland one of the largest buyers of American weapons. https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/as-russian-aggression-turns-west-poland-says-its-ready-328a0a13?mod=hp_lead_pos8

What a contrast to the calls of the Ukrainian authorities in 2021 to prepare for the holidays and not to panic instead of preparing for war.

But the war (for power) is also ongoing inside Ukraine. The central government is consistently replacing local self-government by creating city military administrations and appointing their heads. Since in Kyiv the head of the military administration is unsuccessfully competing with the mayor, in Odessa, the third largest city in Ukraine, apparently taking into account the Kyiv experience, they decided to first get rid of the mayor, accusing him of obtaining russian citizenship. This is reminiscent of the situation in Chernihiv, where the mayor was also removed for dubious reasons, the BBC concludes. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c201r9e5r6eo

The temperature during the day is +11C outside and +16 inside, but frost is expected soon at night. Emergency power outages have begun, but I still always have water. In other areas of Kyiv, in addition to power outages, there are also problems with water.

russian occupation forces launched a massive attack on Ukrainian gas infrastructure with missiles and strike drones on Thursday night, October 16. This is the sixth attack by russians on these facilities this month, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports. There is damage, some facilities have been temporarily taken out of operation. Energy facilities were also under attack by the occupiers today. Emergency restoration work is currently underway. Emergency power outages are in effect in Kyiv and nine regions of Ukraine. https://zn.ua/ukr/war/rosijani-masovano-atakuvali-hazovu-infrastrukturu-ukrajini-chetvero-poranenikh.html

Such strikes directly affect the volume of domestic gas production and Ukrainians were urged to save on gas consumption. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343799-ukraintsev-prizvali-ekonomit-gaz-kazhdyy-sekonomlennyy-kubometr-imeet-znachenie-naftogaz

The difference of this strike was the use of mainly ballistic missiles. In addition to 320 strike UAVs of the Shahed, Gerber and other types, 37 missiles were used, of which 28 were ballistic. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1111492-v-povitryanyh-sylah-zayavyly-shho-nichna-ataka-rf-vidriznyalas-vid-poperednih

russia struck the territory of one of the training units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with two ballistic missiles, causing deaths and injuries. https://vechirniy.kyiv.ua/news/118628/

On the night of October 16, Ukrainian kamikaze drones launched a massive attack on the Saratov region of the russian federation. The targets were located in the regional center, as well as in Engels, where a strategic aviation airbase is located. https://war.obozrevatel.com/ukr/bula-seriya-vibuhiv-droni-atakuvali-rosijski-saratov-i-engels-aeroporti-pripinyali-robotu-video.htm

Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Serhiy Lysak, who previously headed the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, as the head of the Odesa city military administration. In fact, this means that he will take over power in the city from Gennady Trukhanov, whom the president stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship the day before. Serhiy Lysak was one of the most unpublicized regional leaders in Ukraine and previously worked in the Security Service of Ukraine, writes the BBC. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/crmx2xnvd1lo Thus, the vertical of power in Ukraine is being strengthened and implemented with the help of the Security Service of Ukraine, which is becoming one of the main forces in Ukraine. All this is reminiscent of how in russia the FSB (both security services originate from the Soviet KGB) is the source and support of power.

In Ternopil region, seven servicemen are suspected of committing serious crimes. The investigation found that they illegally detained people, used physical violence and torture against them, and also extorted money and took property. This is reported by the Ternopil region police. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cly24p82kxxo

It is very sad to read this, understanding that the consequence is, among other things, discrediting the army. On the other hand, it is not very clear how this differs from kidnapping, which is officially carried out by mobilization centers.

The Prosecutor General's Office reported a dozen new cases of bribery and abuse during mobilization and service. Large-scale corruption schemes have been exposed both in mobilization centers and medical commissions, as well as in the structures of the armed forces. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343807-ot-vvk-i-ttsk-do-struktur-vsu-ogp-soobschaet-o-masshtabnykh-korruptsionnykh-skhemakh-v-sfere-mobilizatsii-i-voennoy-sluzhby

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Washington and announced that the US-Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund has already begun operating. Priority projects relate to critical minerals, energy, and infrastructure. https://apostrophe.ua/ua/news/economy/2025-10-15/amerykansko-ukrayinskyy-fond-vidbudovy-pochav-robotu-svyrydenko-nazvala-pershi-proyekty/354118

Due to the ongoing hostilities, Ukraine's public finances remain under pressure, and the unmet need for external financing for 2026-2027 is about $60 billion. This was stated by Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko during the eighth meeting of the Ministerial Roundtable in Support of Ukraine, which took place in Washington. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343819-ukraine-nuzhno-esche-60-mlrd-vneshney-pomoschi-v-2026-2027-godakh-marchenko

On Wednesday, October 15, the One Hundred Year Partnership Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ukraine officially entered into force. The agreement stipulates that the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with military assistance of at least $3.6 billion annually, as needed. In addition, it is planned to expand cooperation in the field of long-range weapons and investment in Ukrainian defense production, in particular drones and artillery. https://24tv.ua/geopolitics/ugoda-pro-storichne-partnerstvo-mizh-ukrayinoyu-velikoyu-britaniyeyu_n2934147

Yesterday I attended the Insolvency Law Forum organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association and returned very late. The event was held at the Hilton and the buffet was excellent. It was also warm there. In fact, I was very happy to see colleagues, many of whom have become friends over the more than 20 years they have been in this business. Unfortunately, no one could boast of successful cases, but everyone had something to tell about persecution by the state. Starting with corruption, ending with mobilization, which is used as a means of pressure and reprisal.
What kind of client protection or effective work of lawyers or trustee can we talk about if a judge, prosecutor or police officer, who are not subject to mobilization, can call representatives of the mobilization center to mobilize a stubborn lawyer who is starting to bother them too much?

In Khmelnytsky region, a conflict broke out between local residents and workers of a mobilization center. Telegram channels showed a video in which local women chased a mobilization center car with sticks and broke the windshield. This is probably the answer to the question of why the authorities in Ukraine do not risk mobilizing women. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343958-v-khmelnitskoy-oblasti-mestnye-zhenschiny-s-palkami-prognali-ttsk-video

There was also a clash between residents of Dnipro and employees of the mobilization center. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/masova-sutichka-stalas-mizh-dnipryanami-i-viyskovimi-ttsk

But the main event yesterday was Zelensky's trip to the US and his meeting with Trump. The third meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump at the White House was neither a breakthrough in diplomacy nor a revolution in the United States' support for Ukraine. Zelensky was not helped by the fact that he wore a suit this time.

Instead, this visit left more questions than answers about when and under what conditions the russian-Ukrainian war might end. Ukraine did not receive the coveted "Tomahawks", the possibility of which has been actively heated up in the world press in the last few weeks. Nor did it receive the security guarantees that Kyiv has been negotiating with Washington for several months.

However, almost immediately after the meeting with the Ukrainian president, Donald Trump published a call on the social network Truth Social to Kyiv and Moscow to stop hostilities on the current line of contact. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn97gjqgq9po

In my opinion, the results were clear even when Trump called Putin while Zelensky's plane was in the air. Does Zelensky really not understand who he is being taken for?

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the United States did not go as he had hoped and showed how much Ukraine needs European help. According to the Chancellor, this makes European help even more important, because the war can only be ended if Ukraine has military strength.

He said that he would work to support Ukraine "financially, politically and, of course, militarily."

Surrender is not an option for Ukraine, because then russia will attack the next European country, he stressed. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1111963-vizyt-do-bilogo-domu-projshov-ne-tak-yak-spodivavsya-zelenskyj-kantsler-frn-merts

Does Trump understand what Putin takes him for?

Obviously a rhetorical question because he falls for Putin’s enticement time and time again. Trump is like a teenage boy who continues to take a girl on expensive dates without receiving even a little goodnight kiss. But she implies a kiss next time while shaking his hand.

Putin also knows how to time his persuasion, hence he calls just before Zelensky arrives. It’s well known that Trump is overly influenced by the last person who speaks with him. In his first administration it was often vital for cabinet members and aides to arrange to be the last person to speak with him before he acted.

While Western analysts do not expect anything concrete from the announced meeting between Trump and Putin in Budapest, russian propaganda is already celebrating a diplomatic victory and the near-defection of the United States to russia, the French newspaper Le Monde reports.

The prospect of a second bilateral summit, expected in the coming weeks in Budapest, delighted commentators. Fiodor Lukyanov, the Kremlin's favored political scientist, was expecting "something specific." "Apparently, there is a settlement plan that was already presented in Alaska, and for which precise parameters have been defined," he explained in an email to Le Monde on Friday. russian officials have repeated this interpretation, widely picked up by the press, convinced that a "confidential" settlement of the conflict in Ukraine was reached at the previous summit between Trump and putin, without anyone else's knowledge. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2025/10/19/moscow-s-mix-of-relief-and-renewed-charm-toward-washington_6746570_4.html

The European Union has called a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir putin in Budapest an “insult,” El Pais reported. The upcoming meeting puts EU and NATO leaders in an awkward position, as the issue of the russian-Ukrainian war will be discussed without the EU itself.

This creates political tension, because in order to avoid conflict with Trump, EU leaders will probably have to grant putin special permission to fly through their airspace or force him to take a longer route. “The location was chosen carefully, as it could benefit russia by deepening the EU’s divisions over the Kremlin. It could also do Orbán a big favor, as his country faces elections next year.
https://elpais.com/internacional/2025-10-18/una-ruta-aerea-compleja-y-un-desaire-para-bruselas-la-reunion-entre-putin-y-trump-en-budapest-pone-en-guardia-a-la-ue.html

Jokes on this topic have already appeared in Ukraine, suggesting that putin reach Hungary via a gas pipeline.

But the emergence of jokes on a completely different level is alarming. Ukraine has been associated with Zelensky for too long, and now it will hurt it. On Sunday, 19 October, the British newspaper The Telegraph published a cartoon in which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appears in a white T-shirt with the sarcastic inscription: "I went to Washington and all I got was this lousy T-shirt". This image appeared against the background of his evening video address to Ukrainians, with Ukrainian flags in the background. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/telegraph-cartoons-october-2025/

It seems that in the alternative reality everything is not so bad. Zelensky said that putin is not winning, his army is now in a weak position.

On the night of Sunday, October 19, russian forces launched 62 strike drones of various types into Ukraine, 19 of which hit their targets. https://armyinform.com.ua/2025/10/19/vorog-atakuvav-ukrayinu-62-bpla-40-z-yakyh-vdalosya-perehopyty-povitryani-syly-zsu/

Since the beginning of the year, aid from major allies has declined significantly. The United States, previously the main donor, has not provided Ukraine with new weapons since Donald Trump took office, writes the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

European states have tried to partially fill the gap, but their production capacities remain limited. The most acute shortage is observed in the supply of artillery ammunition, air defense systems and missile launchers. According to the publication, in the summer, commitments from European countries decreased by 57% compared to the beginning of the year - from 3.8 to 1.9 billion euros per month. In general, the total aid from all donors fell by about 40%. https://www.nzz.ch/international/trotz-grossen-worten-aus-europa-brechen-die-ukraine-hilfen-ein-sechs-grafiken-zeigen-was-dahintersteckt-ld.1907338

Ukraine cannot win against russia, warns British Field Marshal. Field Marshal Lord Richards tells The Independent’s Sam Kiley that Ukraine has been given false hope by its Western allies and cannot triumph against russia unless Nato forces join fight. “What we have done in the case of Ukraine is encourage Ukraine to fight, but not given them the means to win,” the former chief of the defence staff told The Independent’s podcast World of Trouble. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-russia-war-defeat-david-richards-world-of-trouble-podcast-b2844349.html

The pro-government faction of the majority party "Servant of the People" will hold a Coordination Meeting with government representatives on October 20. The meeting will discuss priority areas of state policy. The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada will also join the meeting. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/344032-fraktsiya-sluga-naroda-vstretitsya-s-sviridenko-i-chlenami-pravitelstva-dlya-obsuzhdeniya-gospolitiki

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the implementation of a new $1,000 fee for aliens paroled into the United States. https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-implements-new-immigration-parole-fee-required-by-hr-1
It seems that this requirement will also apply to Ukrainians who are in the US under the U4U program.

On the night of October 9, the Ukrainian satellite Sich 2−30, developed by designers in Dnipro and launched in early 2022, left orbit and burned up in the atmosphere. https://nv.ua/ukr/ukraine/events/suputnik-sich-2-30-ukrajinskiy-kosmichniy-aparat-ziyshov-z-orbiti-ta-pripiniv-isnuvannya-50552898.html
This was probably the last thing Ukraine achieved in the space industry, although it had been developing and manufacturing rocket and space systems since the 1950s. It was the Ukrainians who created the rockets that made a breakthrough in rocket technology and made the USSR competitive in the escalating Cold War.

Therefore, it is very sad to read the news that while in one country the artificial intelligence THOR, created at Los Alamos National Laboratory in collaboration with the University of New Mexico, is able to calculate the configuration integral — a key mathematical construct in the physics of matter — in just a few seconds https://scitechdaily.com/ai-breakthrough-finally-cracks-century-old-physics-problem/ , in another country at the same time people are being caught on the streets like slave traders caught blacks in Africa hundreds of years ago.

For the second year in a row, Ukraine has been facing a severe shortage of English, computer science, and mathematics teachers, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. In addition, schools are short of teachers of Ukrainian language and literature, physical education, history, and physics. https://lux.fm/u-minosviti-nazvali-3-predmeti-yaki-ot-ot-ne-bude-komu-vikladati_n199960

It seems that the Ukrainian government believes that stupid and obedient people should lead Ukraine to success and victory, while overly intelligent citizens only pose a threat to the regime.

But it seems that not everyone agrees with this approach and some are ready to offer their own vision of how to govern the country and demonstrate their own political ambitions. How else can one explain the public speeches of the chief intelligence officer of Ukraine on topics that are not within his competence? During the Kyiv International Economic Forum, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the basis of Ukraine's security in the future should be the rejection of the resource-based model in favor of an economy with high added value, the development of a modern high-tech defense-industrial complex and the formation of a clear grand strategy of the state.

"The grand strategy of Ukraine is necessary for us to finally determine our place and role in the new world and confidently move towards this goal," the head of the GUR emphasized. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/344030-ukraina-dolzhna-sozdat-grand-strategiyu-i-byt-gotovoy-k-otporu-v-lyuboy-moment-kirill-budanov

In the worst case, this could mean that the authorities are preparing opportunities to remain in power by offering people a new face, as the FSB and oligarchs once made putin the president of russia. In this case, the statements will remain just populist slogans, as has happened repeatedly before.

Explosions were heard in several regions of the russian federation on the night of October 19. Two enterprises important to the russian federation were hit by drones at once: the Novokuibyshevsk Refinery and the Orenburg Gas Plant. https://war.obozrevatel.com/ukr/u-rosii-poskarzhilisya-na-ataku-droniv-pid-samaroyu-zagorivsya-npz-v-orenburzi-gazzavod-foto-i-video.htm

Yes it does seem that Trump has had a “near defection” to Russia. Good summary of the situation here including mention of the shouting and swearing between Zelensky and Trump over Trump’s insistence that Ukraine give up territory.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/20/zelenskyy-calls-for-more-us-patriot-air-defences-after-trump-again-sides-with-putin

My view: Trump has determined to side with Russia. After the Israeli/Hamas cease fire, Trump clearly wants a quick encore performance for the Nobel committee, regardless of the cost to Ukraine. He cannot resist Putin’s seemingly hypnotic spells nor give up his long standing bromance with the dictator. He doesn’t and probably never will fully grasp the danger to Europe and the world presented by Russia. Even if he did, he doesn’t seem to care, thinking it’s just Europe’s problem.

I for one apologize to my Ukraine friends that we in the US made the mistake of re-electing this sorry excuse of a leader and that he is not supporting your country. (While not a topic of this forum it’s worth mentioning that he is also wreaking havoc on our own country and we will not escape consequences here. I hope that we will be able to keep our republic.)

The Washington Post had more details today of the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the White House:

In a tense meeting at the White House on Friday, Trump tossed aside maps of the front line and urged Kyiv to concede its entire Donbas region to Russia to clinch a deal, according to people familiar with the exchange who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share sensitive diplomacy.
“He said [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will destroy you if you don’t agree now,” one of the people said.

“Zelensky had his maps and everything, and he was explaining it to him but [Trump] wanted nothing to do with it.”

Trump listened but was not responsive to the Ukrainian message, the person said. “It was pretty much like ‘No, look guys, you can’t possibly win back any territory. … There is nothing we can do to save you. You should try to give diplomacy another chance.’”

https://wapo.st/4qrm8E3

“Clinch a deal”.  Not a quote of him, but perfectly consistent with what Trump would say. Like he is closing on buying a plot of land.

I can't understand the constant begging for money and weapons from the USA, which is on the other side of the world, while Europe and Ukraine should make more efforts and solve their problems on their own. But it seems that an insolvent country will not dare to change management and carry out restructuring, confidently heading towards bankruptcy and liquidation...

I can’t either. It’s like the house is on fire at one end from the Russians and the Zelensky administration responded by setting the other end on fire. It’s a little disingenuous to beg your friends to help extinguish the flames under such circumstances.

The air temperature is dropping and it's already below 10C outside. In houses where residents don't heat themselves, the temperature has also dropped. My thermometer shows +16C, but I just started eating and drinking tea more, and I sit at the computer wrapped in a blanket.

The authorities will still be forced to turn on central heating because people are turning on electric heaters, which leads to overloading the already weak power grid. https://news.novyny.live/v-ukrenergo-nazvali-termin-koli-v-ukrayini-zapratsiuie-opalennia-288844.html

Of course, the real situation will depend on the russians and their attacks.

On the night of October 21, russian troops attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, four S-30 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and 98 Shahed, Gerbera, and other types of strike UAVs. Air defense neutralized 58 targets, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. https://weukraine.tv/top/rosijani-znovu-atakuvali-iskanderami-ta-majzhe-100-bpla-skilki-zbili/

Among other things, the attack resulted in an emergency power outage in Chernihiv and northern communities of the region. https://zaxid.net/chernigiv_ta_chastina_oblasti_zalishilis_bez_svitla_y_vodi_vnaslidok_udariv_rf_n1621756 No other consequences were reported in the press.

UAVs also attacked the Rostov region in russia: explosions thundered at an electrical substation. https://weukraine.tv/novyny/bpla-atakuvali-rostovsku-oblast-vibukhi-prohrimili-na-elektropidstantsiji/

Today, the Verkhovna Rada extended martial law for the 17th time for another 90 days, starting from November 5 of this year. https://inshe.tv/suspilstvo/2025-10-21/957494/

This means continued restrictions for men and further forced mobilization, as well as all things related to it.

Suspicion was reported to police officers who took the man to the mobilization center building in the Holosiivsky district of the capital and beat him. https://censor.net/ua/p3580549

The Bar Council of Ukraine will appeal to the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense with a demand to equip all mobilization centers with separate premises for the work of lawyers. Meanwhile, the parliament plans to repeal the law on citizens' appeals and adopt a new one, which will significantly narrow the grounds and opportunities for addressing authorities exclusively within the framework of special procedures. Business Ombudsman of Ukraine Roman Vashchuk stated that there is an acute shortage of labor force in the Ukrainian labor market, especially among men. According to him, the issue of personnel shortage arose even before the full-scale war, and now it has become even more urgent.

Vashchuk emphasized that in the conditions of demographic decline and mass emigration of citizens abroad, Ukraine may consider opening the labor market to immigrants from Central Asian countries. news.novyny.live/ukrayina-uzhe-priimaie-immigrantiv-na-robotu-cherez-brak-robochikh-ruk-288777.html

So, Ukrainians have to die so that people from Central Asia and other migrants can live and work here?

russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said russia will not cease hostilities in Ukraine until the “root cause” of the war is eliminated. Emergency power outages were introduced in a number of regions and Kyiv on the morning of Wednesday, October 22, local regional energy companies and energy companies reported. https://unn.ua/news/ekstreni-vidkliuchennia-svitla-zaprovadyly-u-nyztsi-oblastei-ukrainy

As temperatures drop in Ukraine, russia has stepped up drone attacks on power facilities supplying millions of homes across the country. There are signs that the russian military is repeatedly hitting the same areas to aggravate the population’s suffering. The northern regions of Chernihiv and Sumy – adjoining russia and Belarus – have seen constant attacks over the past month.

Hundreds of thousands of people in Chernihiv were without power or water on Tuesday after more than 50 drones and missiles targeted essential facilities overnight. Two attack drones hit a heat supply facility and another energy installation, according to Vyacheslav Chaus, head of Chernihiv regional military administration. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/21/europe/russian-drones-target-ukraine-energy-intl

When the first drones flew at midnight, I hardly paid attention to them, but there were more and more of them and they exploded closer and closer and prevented me from sleeping. Closer to morning they paused, and at dawn ballistic missiles flew in and the explosions really shook the house as if during an earthquake. Apparently the russians wanted to hit a nearby thermal power plant, but surprisingly I had both water and electricity all day. But not everyone was so lucky. In part of Kyiv there was neither water nor electricity, which was restored only in the evening. But they warned that the outages would begin tomorrow.

At least seven people have been killed including two children during intense russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine, officials say. A kindergarten was hit in Ukraine's second biggest city Kharkiv and there was widespread damage in Kyiv. Children were among the 27 people wounded. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjpe0193geo

In the Kyiv region, a russian drone hit a residential building in the village of Pogreby, killing a woman and two children who had come from Kyiv to live in warmth and away from airstrikes.
https://24tv.ua/ataka-droniv-kamikadze-po-kiyivshhini-22-zhovtnya-2025-foto-zagiblih_n2938244

As a result of the shelling, there is damage to infrastructure and power outages in areas, which is causing some trains to run with delays, Ukrainian Railways reports. https://weukraine.tv/suspilstvo/v-ukrzaliznitsi-poperedili-pro-zatrimku-pojizdiv-cherez-masovanij-obstril/

It seems that blackouts are returning again and in the evenings the only lights on the streets are the lights from cars and the collars on dogs that glow...

Trump today imposed sanctions on Lukoil and Rosneft. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0290 . Better late than never.

I hope that Trump has finally realized how badly he’s been played and will not quickly relent when Putin tries to mesmerize him once again during the next phone call. Let’s also hope that he follows up today’s action by shipping requested weapons to Ukraine, removing limits on use inside Russia, using frozen Russian assets to benefit Ukraine, and even ordering the US Navy to interdict shadow oil tankers.

Treasury sanctions major russian oil companies, calls on moscow to immediately agree to ceasefire, says a press release dated October 22 on the US Treasury website. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0290

Chinese state oil majors have suspended purchases of seaborne russian oil after the United States imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, Moscow's two biggest oil companies, multiple trade sources said on Thursday. The move comes as refiners in India, the largest buyer of seaborne russian oil, are set to sharply cut their crude imports from Moscow, to comply with the U.S. sanctions imposed over the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine, reports Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/china-state-oil-majors-suspend-russian-oil-buys-due-sanctions-sources-say-2025-10-23/

Rosneft PJSC’s German unit may be cut off from key customers since it wasn’t excluded from the latest US sanctions against russia, people with knowledge of the matter said. Oil traders, banks and oil companies have already threatened to end relationships with Rosneft Deutschland, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing private information. The German government is in talks with Washington in an effort to shield the unit from the penalties, they said, writes Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-23/rosneft-german-unit-may-be-cut-off-from-customers-amid-sanctions

These appear to be the first real sanctions in many years, aside from the Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries that hurt russia. But so far russia is causing more harm to Ukraine than vice versa, although globally russia is also losing.

On October 22, explosions occurred at the Plastmas military plant, which is part of the Rostec corporation and, among other things, produces and disposes of explosives, weapons, and ammunition. https://www.radiosvoboda.org/a/news-rf-vybuh-na-vijskovomu-zavodi-12-zahyblyh/33568698.html

Vladimir putin commented on the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine and stated that russia would respond "shockingly" to strikes with such weapons. As for the new European Union sanctions, which include restrictions on the supply of toilets, bidets, washbasins and other plumbing equipment to russia, putin threatened Europe and said that it would cost them dearly. https://today.ua/483462-otvet-budet-oshelomlyayushim-putin-sdelal-neskolko-novyh-zayavlenij-o-vojne-v-ukraine/

The situation for Ukrainian troops in the area of Kupyansk — the city that actually holds the eastern defense line of the Kharkiv region — has noticeably worsened in recent days, Ukrainian media outlets report. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c3epvvdzedzo

As a result of night-time shelling by russian troops, elements of the railway infrastructure were damaged. There were changes in train traffic in the Kharkiv, Sumy and Kirovohrad regions.

On October 24, the russians attacked critical infrastructure facilities in the Kirovohrad region, leaving 19 settlements without electricity. https://nv.ua/ukr/ukraine/events/u-kirovogradskiy-oblasti-19-naselenih-punktiv-bez-svitla-cherez-ataku-rosiji-24-zhovtnya-50555119.html

This winter, ordinary Ukrainians seem to be facing a blackout like never before. Electricity outages for several hours a day have already become commonplace, and there is still uncertainty about central heating, on which most of the city's population depends. Sergiy UT3UFD decided to buy a couple more cans of fuel for the car and a few gas cylinders for the stove. I don't want to turn an apartment into a warehouse for explosives, but I also keep some gas for the tourist stove that a Polish volunteer, Tomek, brought me a couple of years ago. Yesterday we had a joint call with him and Kate, who also wants to join the volunteering. Not all Poles are bad towards Ukrainians now, and we should be grateful to them for everything they have done for us and return the favor if we can.

The authorities promise to set up aid points, but they look more like gloomy shelters for the homeless. Real salvation will likely be found at McDonald's or large gas stations with their large generators and food supplies.

The European Union put off until December a decision on whether to tap frozen ussian central bank assets to aid Ukraine, threatening an effort to get Ukraine fresh funding by early 2026. Talks stalled after Belgium demanded greater assurances it wouldn’t be held liable for risks linked to the proposed €140 billion ($163 billion) in loans, given the money is mostly held in Belgium, reports Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-23/eu-leaders-defer-russian-frozen-asset-plan-decision-to-december

At a railway station in Zhytomyr region on October 24, a man detonated a grenade during a document check. This killed a border guard and two civilian women, the press service of the National Police reports. He had previously tried to leave Ukraine. https://babel.ua/news/122493-na-zhitomirshchini-cholovik-pidirvav-granatu-na-peroni-ye-zagibli-ta-postrazhdali

As some say, he could have waited a couple of months and died already at the front, but having earned his family 15 million UAH in payments. Maybe he simply did not have a family. It seems that the old slogan "freedom or death" now sounds in a new way.

Kyiv police have opened criminal proceedings into the death of a man who sustained injuries in a mobilization center after falling to the floor. https://fakty.com.ua/ua/ukraine/20251024-upav-na-pidlogu-u-kyyevi-v-rozpodilchomu-punkti-pomer-cholovik/
If we believe the incredible fact that no one beat him and he fell himself, the question arises: how was such a strong guy allowed into the army?

Mykyta Poturayev, a parliamentarian from the pro-government Servants of the People party and head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, said that videos about the detention and beating of people by workers at mobilization centers are fakes that China and russia continue to create. https://news.telegraf.com.ua/ukr/ukraina/2025-10-24/5923817-chomu-video-busifikatsii-feyki-ta-chi-chekati-kontsert-dorna-v-kievi-blitsintervyu-z-mikitoyu-poturaevim

On the other hand, it is difficult to accuse representatives of the authorities of not believing what is happening to ordinary people, and they are probably afraid for some reason to forgo security and armored car convoys in favor of traveling on the subway to find out about it.

It was quiet in Kyiv that night, but my blood pressure rose again and I slept very badly. My head hurts even when I just try to bend over. I really want to believe that this is just due to the change in weather. My cardiologist said that he could not say anything about the condition of my head, and I do not know where to find a good doctor for this issue.

Wlad I’m very concerned about your blood pressure combined with headache when bending over. I hope it resolves on its own and you feel better very soon, or can find a way to seek a diagnosis and treatment for it ( if not too dangerous to do so.)

Fortunately the US dollar is still the world reserve currency which is a key factor in US oil sanctions having authority and being observed by most - but not all. I’m encouraged by the responses including China and, it seems, India. Of course what they say and what they do can be very different. I believe that enforcing sanctions on shadow tankers is probably necessary.

Poturayev sounds like some in the government of many countries.. It’s all “fake news” when it goes against them but perfectly true if it favors them. Here our current administration always puts on a good show. A reliable indicator of the veracity of negative news is the amount of hyperbole and hysteria in the official denials. In particular WH press secretary Karoline Leavitt is very good at it, a real “Squealer” type.

Putin is clearly very worried about Tomahawks which is all the more reason to supply them. I hope that our President will continue to devote a few moments of his precious attention to the war - and on Ukraine’s side.

I also don't like what's happening with my bood pressure, and the main thing is that I don't know the reasons. I hope that my condition is related to blood pressure, and not to something else. The pills allow me to keep it below 130, but it can easily rise or, conversely, drop significantly. And therefore, simply increasing the dose of the medicine is also impossible. I still hope that this is solely due to the shelling at night, when you don’t sleep for most of the night. My heart is holding up better and I feel pain only when the pressure jumps.

There was another shelling of Kyiv last night and they say that out of 9 ballistic missiles, only 4 were shot down. There were also several dozen drones. But no one has believed these figures for a long time and no one really knows what is happening. I saw a fire from a window nearby, friends wrote that one Kyiv CHP was completely destroyed and another was damaged. Some are already starting to leave Kyiv without waiting for the frost. https://life.kyiv.ua/news/balistychnyj-udar-po-kyievu-ie-zahyblyj-poshkodzheno-dytsadok-i-zhytlovi-budynky

The scale of today’s attacks is indicated by the fact that in Kyiv alone, almost 300 rescuers are clearing rubble all day. As always, the exact number of dead and injured will only be known in a few days. https://apostrophe.ua/ua/news/politics/2025-10-25/u-stolytsi-300-ryatuvalnykiv-bezperervno-boryutsya-z-naslidkamy-chergovogo-udaru-rf/355161

Ukraine has used all nine nuclear power units located in the territory under its control to produce electricity, but the russians are purposefully attacking hydro and thermal power plants to unbalance the system, and the excess energy on the right bank will not help compensate for the shortage on the left. https://apostrophe.ua/ua/news/society/2025-10-25/ukrayina-vyvela-z-remontu-vsi-pidkontrolni-energobloky-aes/355146

Today I had no electricity for three hours, and Sergiy UT3UFD had twice as much, but we enjoyed the clear air, powering the radio from batteries.

The government decided to allocate UAH 8.4 billion from the reserve fund to the Ministry of Energy for the joint-stock company "Naftogaz of Ukraine" for the purchase of imported natural gas in order to ensure the stable passage of the 2025/26 heating season. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/344583-naftogaz-poluchit-84-mlrd-grn-iz-rezervnogo-fonda-na-zakupku-importnogo-gaza-reshenie-pravitelstva

I don't know if putin is really afraid of Tomahawks or new sanctions, but he sent a special representative to the US for negotiations. Maybe this is just another attempt to fool Trump and stall for time. The Chief Executive Officer of the russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, feels confident and once again voiced a number of demands to Ukraine, after the fulfillment of which russia is allegedly ready to stop the war. The Kremlin demands that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region and place the region under the control of the russian Federation, the neutral status of Ukraine, which is important for russia's security," Dmitriev said. As for the negotiation process, the Kremlin representative stated that the process is moving towards a diplomatic solution "taking into account russian interests." https://www.foxnews.com/video/6383888411112
