It's cold in the apartments, but I save electricity and protect Ukraine's energy system from overload by dressing warmer and putting bottles of warm water in my bed instead of using electric heaters.

The boss insists on the necessity of finding a detached house instead of an office with autonomous electricity and heating. The task is not easy and I have involved a realtor in the search. Perhaps the constant reduction of business in the country will allow us to occupy such premises instead of those who will not survive the struggle with the state.

Today there was a big meeting and no one heard any complaints about them, which is a good sign. I am still collecting and analyzing information about the number of cases and the workload on people, and it is obvious that we need at least two more lawyers and an assistant.

At another time I would be happy about such growth, but given that my specialization is crisis management, bankruptcy and liquidation, this means that everything is only getting worse. In this we are somewhat similar to undertakers who rub their hands during wars and epidemics.

However, undertakers have many more clients. The lack of iron of weapons is compensated by the meat of soldiers. Clashes between the population and representatives of mobilization centers are increasingly common. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MKll9YGnew Recently, raids have been carried out by large groups accompanied by police. But the mobilization still goes badly. She is also badly affected by injustice and corruption.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine is conducting a large-scale official investigation into the heads of prosecutor's offices who may be receiving pensions under false disability. The actions of the state body are related to the corruption scandal about "false" pensions of prosecutors, which broke out last week.

At that time, Censor.net journalists published an investigation in which they claimed that half a hundred prosecutors of the Khmelnytsky region, including the regional prosecutor, could issue a disability certificate without having legal grounds for it.

According to journalists of the publication, Tetyana Krupa, the head of the medical and social expert commission of the Khmelnytsky region, who is being held in custody on suspicion of illegal enrichment, helped them to do this. Now journalists, as well as several leaders of anti-corruption public organizations, have reason to believe that Khmelnytsky region is not the only one.

According to the head of the Anti-Corruption Center, only these four dozen heads of prosecutor's offices "received more than 11 million hryvnias in pensions last year." "And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Because there are a whole bunch of heads of various departments and divisions. And there are also judges, the police, the State Security Bureau, among whom this phenomenon is also common". https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cx2ywj7w030o

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin announced that he is resigning after a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, which, according to Kostin, discussed an "obviously immoral situation" with fake disabilities of state officials. https://t.me/pgo_gov_ua/26834

It was also decided to review the decisions of the medical and social expert commissions regarding the establishment of disabilities for officials of the relevant state bodies and to eliminate the commissions altogether by the end of next year. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/313698-msek-budut-likvidirovany-s-31-dekabrya-a-po-pensionnym-vyplatam-po-invalidnosti-dolzhnostnym-litsam-provedut-audit-reshenie-snbo

In fact, it is not only about money. Since disability is the basis for exemption from military service and allows travel abroad, it is obtained primarily for this purpose and bribes reach significant sizes. Moreover, recently there has been a secondary social inversion of the disabled. If earlier being disabled was an abnormality and meant a lower status in society, now disability has nothing to do with health and, on the contrary, demonstrates the high status of the holder of a disability document, who has the opportunity to acquire it. Although against the background of the global rise of abnormalities in modern society throughout the world, disability is not in the first place, in Ukraine it acquires a very special value, making "disabled people" a kind of "untouchable". We must admit that there is no corruption in Ukraine. Corruption is an ulcer on a healthy body. But when instead of a healthy body there is one big ulcer, this is no longer an abnormality. This is such a social system.

It is not for nothing that scientists were awarded this year's Nobel Prize for "explaining in a new way why there are such large differences in well-being between nations." One of the important explanations provided by this year's laureates is persistent differences in societal institutions. They have proven that societies with poor rule of law and institutions that exploit the population do not generate growth or change for the better. Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James A. Robinson found a clear chain of cause and effect. Institutions that were created to exploit the masses are bad for long-term growth, while those that establish fundamental economic freedoms and the rule of law are good for it. Political and economic institutions also tend to be durable. Even if extractive economic systems provide short-term benefits for the ruling elite, introducing more inclusive institutions, reducing extractiveness and the rule of law will create long-term benefits for all.

For now Ukraine's population has dropped by 10 million, or roughly a quarter, since the start of the full-scale russian invasion. This was stated by the head of the Eastern Europe Department of the United Nations Population Fund, Florence Bauer, during a press conference in Geneva (Switzerland).

This decline was the result of the departure of refugees, falling birth rates and war casualties.

Today there were no drones and I was able to sleep normally, but I still didn't sleep well. Changes in the weather and work load are showing up and I feel it with discomfort in my chest. On the other hand, I am sure that without work it would be the same. Today I thought it was Monday, but my colleagues told me that it was already Wednesday.

Ukraine is developing a drone capable of intercepting russia’s Iranian-designed kamikaze drones, The Telegraph can disclose. The new weapon will be deployed to chase down and intercept Shahed-136s instead of conventional air-defence munitions to protect Ukrainian cities against russian barrages. Its developers, the Wild Hornets group, say their latest innovation will be able to fly faster than 100mph and at altitudes nearing 10,000ft. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/20/anti-drone-ukraine-iranian-kamikazes-russia/

But the russians' tactics of using long-range kamikaze drones of the Shahed-136 type are undergoing active changes, and the enemy is trying to make these attacks more effective. The main thing in it is the use of a fairly significant number of false targets in several waves. The number of decoy drones is especially large in the first wave, which includes a large number of Gerbers, which are made of foam, and similar cheap UAVs with Lüneberg lenses. They go at low altitudes and start circling in a certain area.

Due to the fact that they are at a low altitude, they are difficult to track by radar stations and sometimes appear and then disappear on radar screens. And this leads to the fact that mobile fire groups are sent to that area. During the second wave, the proportions of false targets to real ones are already equal. But the third wave already contains a minimum of decoys and consists almost entirely of drones with combat units. All this is done in order to confuse our forces as much as possible, to stretch the available air defense means and thereby make a corridor in the Ukrainian air defense system. https://defence-ua.com/news/rf_zminjuje_taktiku_vikoristannja_shahediv_zi_sprobami_stvoriti_koridori_u_ppo-16959.html

Ukraine must turn the tide before it can negotiate to gain leverage, Kyiv needs a stable front in the Donbas—and western security guarantees. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/ukraine-must-turn-tide-it-can-negotiate

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal to replace American forces stationed in Europe with Ukrainian troops after the war drew criticism from the president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Jerry Connolly. Zelensky claimed that battle-hardened Ukrainian soldiers could support NATO by relieving US forces. In his opinion, this would help the Americans to focus on the Indo-Pacific region. Despite Connolly's criticism, such a possibility is being discussed in the West if the information that North Korean troops entered the war against Ukraine on the side of Russia is confirmed.

However, Jerry Connolly called Zelensky's plan "inappropriate" and "harmful." The president of the PA NATO suggested that this is a mistaken attempt to play along with Donald Trump, who has questioned the military commitments of the US in Europe. https://informator.ua/uk/u-nato-vidpovili-na-ideyu-zelenskogo-zaminiti-ukrajincyami-viyska-ssha-u-yevropi

I also met the opinion of one "expert" who claims that Ukraine mobilizes one and a half times less than is lost in battles, and also ponders the inexpediency of lowering the conscription age. https://www.unian.ua/war/mobilizaciya-v-ukrajini-dikiy-zayaviv-shcho-novobranciv-u-pivtora-raza-menshe-nizh-vtrat-12796830.html

I don't know who he is and what reasons he has for citing some numbers, but the vacuum of information from the state is filled by various experts. Unfortunately, publicity often replaces competence, but the average person has to consume it all.

Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing another plan. According to the Ukrainian BBC, he instructed the authorities to develop proposals for the so-called internal action plan, which would help the country survive in war conditions. This initiative is not an alternative to the Ukrainian president's victory plan. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c7494778zj9o

Sarcasm is on.

It was the third year of a full-scale war, and apparently the president's bunker ran out of instant noodles, which he heroically munched when the "Chechens stormed Kyiv", otherwise I cannot explain how such an absurd idea could have come to his powerful head*. Perhaps this happened after realizing how treacherously the partners acted, forcing Ukraine to start relying on itself!
*For those who don't know, the word "powerful" is used by him more often than others, which is why he is also sometimes called "powerful".

However, I am sure that this plan in its simplicity and genius will be similar to the previous one - for example, half of the Ukrainians will have to go to war voluntarily, the other half will have to work for food and voluntarily donate all their property to the state.

Sarcasm is off.

Of course, I believe in the global victory of good, but some people in Ukraine consider that in the case of waging war until the death of pooteen or another trigger that will start a great turmoil in russia when it will forget about Ukraine, it can have extremely negative consequences. Ho Chi Minh won his war against the USA, and the Mujahideen won against the USSR. The price of the issue is a destroyed country, several million civilian victims and hundreds of thousands of killed combatants. Also, forget about democracy, human rights and prepare for total mobilization, not only of people (regardless of gender), but also of property that is currently in private ownership.

They call this scenario the "mujahideenization" of Ukraine. Whoever survives to victory will be sincerely surprised at how different the Ukraine that will defeat russia will be from the Ukraine that we started fighting for in 2014 or even in 2022. However, a yellow-blue flag will fly proudly over this bloody land, tons of marijuana will be grown in the fields, and transnational corporations - for large bribes and under the protection of the private military companies - will get access to the development of minerals "worth trillions of dollars".

It was a tough week. On Friday, my alarm clock woke me up, although I usually wake up a little earlier. But for the first time in a long time, I fell asleep again after turning it off and oversleeping for work. It's good that I'm the boss and no one can scold me. But I finally took inventory of all the cases and made a general report, which no one could do before me for various reasons. The next step will be to create a special program based on this information with subsequent automation of processes. In order not to lose market positions, the company must implement new technologies, including AI. I see this as an interesting task.

The russians' shift in drone tactics is yielding results. If earlier drones were shot down outside the city, recently drones have already been flying into the city, and yesterday one of them crashed into a multi-story building and killed a teenage girl. In other cities closer to the front, attacks with medium-range missiles and aerial bombs also continue. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cr4lx93k0qqo If the missiles hit mainly roofs and upper floors, then drones can fly into a window of any floor from any side. Since their attacks continue throughout the night, the air alarm also lasts for hours. I don’t know what the situation is in other cities, but in Kyiv some people now prefer to sleep in the corridors.

I again have little time to follow what is happening in the country and abroad, but there are some things that everyone is talking about.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, said that the funds paid to Ukrainian refugees in Germany would be better transferred directly to Ukraine. According to the minister, Ukrainian refugees in Germany receive up to 1,200 euros per month. Sikorski emphasized that such payments create a financial incentive to stay in Germany, instead of men fighting at the front, and women rebuilding Ukraine's tax base. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBR5aiFdI_M&t=1s

He makes many populist statements and it seems that he is preparing to participate in the future elections of the president of Poland. Perhaps in this way he reflects on the fact that a part of Ukrainians moved from Poland to Germany and improves the economy and demography of Germany, not Poland.

Following the successful conclusion of a written procedure, the Council of the EU finally adopted a financial assistance package to Ukraine, including an exceptional macro-financial assistance (MFA) loan of up to €35 billion and a loan cooperation mechanism that will support Ukraine in repaying loans for up to €45 billion provided by the EU and G7 partners. https://x.com/HU24EU/status/1849091637424619801

In contrast to the people in Ukraine torn apart by contradictions and political preferences, the authorities in Ukraine demonstrate unity and impressive mutual support. The head of the faction of the pro-presidential party "Servant of the People" in the parliament, David Arakhamiya, and the head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, Vitaly Kim, took MP Iryna Allahverdiyeva as a bailiff. She is suspected of illegal enrichment of UAH 20 million, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reported. https://www.facebook.com/sap.gov.ua/posts/pfbid02jYHUsasRGAXokEo14bAoxbKCSvDwTc9z81vgBKHWYTY5Rn9wqGtMVVM5T1Bac8kEl?rdid=H5rV8oRCUFqv8MKs

From December 1, every Ukrainian should receive a thousand hryvnias from the state. This was stated by Volodymyr Zelensky in the traditional evening address on October 25. The president did not provide details on how exactly the money will be allocated and what it can be spent on. According to him, all the details and procedures should be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, but "the people should have the money on the first of December." https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cvgl326791qo

Cheap populism, which can cause inflation, but solves the very important problem of distracting people from something more important, such as the situation at the front. Some are trying to calculate the amount and convert it into drones or other weapons, some are asking where the authorities are going to get the money for this, given the insane budget deficit. The main thing is that this is what the majority of the population is paying attention to now.

Maryna arrived today and this is the most important thing for me now.

Glad to hear the news that Maryna arrived safely despite the confusion in the transport sector, there.

I read that Ukraine and US have something in common: Insane budget deficits. Maybe the people in Ukraine recognize the insanity of it, while most people in the US don't recognize the insanity of our deficits. Instead all the talk is of sustainable energy and packaging practices, while our fiscal situation is totally unsustainable no matter what happens with spending or tax policy.

Hence you should not think that inept leadership is strictly something that exists only in Ukraine.

As usual, there is a lot of work and little time. The weather is changing and stress is making us feel worse. The mood in the country is anxious. Drone attacks continue across the country, and frontline cities are also suffering from missile and air strikes.

Do not ask Ukraine when the war will end. Ask yourself – why Putin is still able to continue it - President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said at the Munich Security Conference on February 17, 2024. https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/ne-pitajte-ukrayinu-koli-zakinchitsya-vijna-pitajte-v-sebe-c-89021 But it seems that he still did not understand that the partners will not fight for Ukraine, if Ukraine itself builds roads, and its government steals during the war.

On October 29, I had the opportunity to personally assess how the mobilization centers work and talked for a long time with their lawyer. The officer looked rather sloppy in civilian clothes and knew the laws according to which he works every day worse than I do.

They realize that they are breaking the law in almost everything and it seems to suit them. It is not clear why they continue to demand that everyone else obey the law.

It was also noticeable that there were several times fewer "volunteers" who were forced to "draft" for service in the army than employees of the mobilization centers, the police and unknown people without identification marks who roamed the territory of the mobilization center. All of them were stocky and armed. Now I understand those who say that the mobilization would have been successfully carried out if all these persons had joined the army. Instead, the sick and the poor go to war, and the "mobilization" itself does not look like a tool for replenishing the army with healthy and strong fighters, but as an opportunity to make money from numerous corruption schemes. Otherwise, why has nothing changed over the years?

The New York Times wrote that US officials, with whom the publication spoke on condition of anonymity, criticized Zelensky's victory plan, calling it unrealistic and almost entirely dependent on Western aid. The publication claims that in a secret part of his plan, Zelensky requested Tomahawk missiles as part of the "non-nuclear deterrence package". According to a senior US official, this is an "absolutely impossible request".

In the same article, the NYT wrote that no country has agreed to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to strike deep in russia, and no major power has publicly approved Ukraine's invitation to NATO while the war rages.

Zelensky confirmed that in the "victory plan" Ukraine asked for long-range weapons, in particular, Tomahawk cruise missiles, but this was confidential information. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cwygpee5l8wo

That is, it once again confirms that the only plan of the Ukrainian authorities is that the partners should defeat russia, and Ukraine's obligation is exclusively to send Ukrainians to the front until they run out.

Ukraine is planning to add another 160,000 troops to its military over the next three months as Kyiv's forces struggle to fend off russian advances, officials in Kyiv said Tuesday. "There are plans to call up more than 160,000 people," the Secretary of Ukraine's National Security Council Oleksandr Lytvynenko told parliament. A security source separately told AFP the recruitment would take place over a three-month period. https://www.lbcgroup.tv/news/world-news/810792/ukraine-to-mobilize-another-160000-troops-into-army-official-says/en

It seems to me that the real plan that the USA expects to see is reforms, the fight against corruption, and the implementation of NATO standards. But our authorities are not interested in such a plan. You won't make money on it, you'll only lose it.

Or the language barrier is to blame for everything. President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak often have conversations with American partners in English without the help of translators. However, according to the media, Zelensky's level of English is only average, while Yermak's is frankly low.

As the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports with reference to sources, attempts by Ukrainian government officials to speak English without an interpreter lead to misunderstandings. The American side often doubts whether the Ukrainian politicians were correctly understood, and whether they themselves correctly perceived the key details of the negotiations. https://www.faz.net/aktuell/politik/ukraine/joe-biden-und-olaf-scholz-zum-nato-beitritt-der-ukraine-usa-kommt-in-bewegung-110070293.html

This morning started with an attack of drones and at least one of them was shot down directly overhead. Debris from drones damaged houses in almost all districts of Kyiv. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/kievi-stalasya-shche-odna-pozhezha-pislya-1730531304.html

Maryna drew attention to the fact that before drones almost never flew into Kyiv, but now it has become a common thing. There were a total of five air alarms per day today, and I heard the opinion that the russians want to go on a 24-hour attack regime.

Maryna is already on the train heading back to Poland and on the one hand I am glad that this extremely difficult week is finally over, but on the other hand - it flew by too quickly. We can’t even explain to ourselves how we manage not to give up and continue to resist circumstances. I am really proud of my family.

Well, the third month that I have been working is coming to an end and I am quite satisfied with my achievements in such a short period of time. Frankly, due to understandable circumstances, I concentrate all my efforts and energy on work. I just don't have anywhere else to direct them now.

Again and again I go back in my mind and think about what path in life I chose and where it has already taken me and will take me next.

When you are busy with your own affairs, trying to work, create a family and raise children, mostly communicating with nice people, and being a social step above the majority, then you do not pay attention in which type of country you live. Besides, you are blind to the familiar things that have always surrounded you. You see the best side of it, being in a bubble. And just as relations with friends do not always stand the test of difficult times, so relations with the state manifest themselves in times of crisis. We are taught that you must obey the law, pay taxes, and then count on social security, law enforcement protection, and a pension, although its amount will be much less than what you paid for it during the time of honest work. In books on the theory of the state and law, this is called a social contract, and the consequence is a feeling of patriotism as a personal connection to one or another country. By country, I mean not only a certain territory on planet Earth, but mainly its people and government. Maybe there are countries in the world where everything happens exactly like this, but this is definitely not about Ukraine. And when you are betrayed by the state and you lose everything, without receiving any protection or support from the state, first you think that the problem is with the government. But then it turns out that the government is only what the majority of the population chooses. And later you realize that you have nothing to do with this majority or its choice. And those with whom you had common values were always a minority and either emigrated or died, and one day you are forced to admit that you live in a completely different country, which has nothing to do with the country of which you considered yourself a patriot, and in which you feel like a foreigner.

It is noteworthy that Maryna believes that Seva is mistaken about the situation in Ukraine, thinking that it is the same country that he left almost three years ago. She is also able to see changes that I cannot.

However, perhaps this country has always been like this, but I and my perception have changed. Perhaps this explains why those who understood this earlier, left Ukraine starting in 1991. The 2019 elections showed how catastrophic the situation was, but many, including me, simply couldn’t believe it. Now I don't want to deceive myself anymore.

The New York Times reported that, according to the US authorities, Ukraine will have enough troops to wage war for another 6-12 months. This seems to be the main problem of Kyiv at the moment. US officials admit that russia is finding more troops and continues to recruit 25,000 to 30,000 contract recruits a month. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/01/us/politics/russia-ukraine-war.html

Ukraine is now struggling to cling on, not to win russia is slicing through Ukrainian defences in parts of the battlefield https://www.economist.com/europe/2024/10/29/ukraine-is-now-struggling-to-cling-on-not-to-win

russia’s army is gaining speed in its advance in eastern Ukraine, seizing more land last week than at any point this year, increasing pressure on Kyiv’s US and European allies to bolster its defenses. The outcome of next week’s US election may mean Kyiv is forced to accept peace under unfavorable conditions or face the prospect of continuing the fight against russia on its own, according to two people close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, speaking on condition of anonymity because the matter is sensitive. There’s a deepening sense of despondency among officials about the course of the war, one of the people said. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-01/russia-speeds-up-advance-in-ukraine-as-mood-darkens-in-kyiv

Great Britain, which chairs the UN Security Council in November, announced a Security Council meeting dedicated to the 1,000 days of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. https://www.ukrinform.ua/rubric-polytics/3922617-radbez-oon-provede-zasidanna-do-1000-dniv-rosijskoi-vijni-proti-ukraini-golovuvatime-britania.html

In times of war, certain restrictions on basic human rights are necessary, provided they are justified, temporary and properly explained to the public. This was stated by the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform on the eve of the publication of the Annual Report on EU Enlargement, in which the European Commission will assess, in particular, the situation with fundamental human rights in Ukraine. https://www.ukrinform.ua/rubric-society/3921393-voennij-stan-ne-e-kartblansem-na-obmezenna-prav-posol-es.html

For the first time, the European Commission publicly criticized the national telethon "Edyny Novyny" and emphasized the need to restore a pluralistic media landscape in Ukraine. This is reported by "Europeyska Pravda" with reference to the European Commission's report on the progress of candidate states for EU membership. In particular, the EU criticizes the financing of the telethon from the state budget. They also doubt the objectivity of the format.

The European Commission also criticizes the work of the Rada TV channel, which should illuminate the activities of the parliament, "including the work of representatives of the parliamentary opposition." It is noted that the channel has been criticized for the low level of representation of the opposition, as well as for the fact that it has not resumed broadcasting the meetings of the Verkhovna Rada since 2022.

The document criticizing the telethon is part of the annual report on all candidate states, including Ukraine. It analyzes the compliance of the countries with the fundamental values of the European Union. This is, in particular, respect for freedom of speech.

The European Commission also noted the tasks of the candidate states in the document. The EU expects that Kyiv will "gradually restore a transparent, pluralistic and independent media landscape." Brussels is waiting for the lifting of restrictions by the Ukrainian authorities, and this should not be tied to the lifting of martial law. https://www.eurointegration.com.ua/news/2024/10/30/7197351/

The recommendations of the European Commission regarding the "Edyny Novyni" marathon have been taken into account, but the state plans to stop supporting the telethon only after the end of martial law, said the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytsky. https://interfax.com.ua/news/general/1024249.html

Another corruption scheme for the procurement of drones at state expense has been exposed, but you won't hear about it in the state news. https://hromadske.ua/suspilstvo/233728-armiia-droniv-i-vidkativ-iak-zarobyty-mayze-600-mln-hrn-na-zakupivliakh-droniv-dlia-syl-oborony-i-do-choho-tut-fedorov

The number of refugees in Germany has reached an all-time high. Currently, 3.48 million people live in the country with the status of refugees or asylum seekers. Of this number, 1.18 million are Ukrainian refugees.

A year ago, the German government launched an employment program for Ukrainian refugees, easing the general rules and requirements for knowledge of German. This was done, among other things, in order to prevent a further increase in the cost of civil assistance. However, as BILD writes, the program completely failed.

"In 2023, only 20% of graduates of integration courses received a job offer from employment centers. None of them ever got a job. This year, 40% of graduates got jobs, less than 1% got a job."

https://t.me/BILD_Russian/19628

On the one hand, you can understand the Germans, and on the other, the Ukrainians - why work for pennies, if in this case you will receive almost as much as social assistance, only to be tired? Even in Poland, a Ukrainian for similar work will receive only half of what a Pole does, and a Ukrainian will not be hired at all for highly qualified work. I wonder what the situation is with the rest of the refugees in Germany, of whom Ukrainians make up only a third?

Maryna arrived in Krakow in the morning and everything became the same as before. It's a pity that her tooth problem couldn't be solved this time, but she now has two new glasses. I will order glasses for myself with my next salary.

Unfortunately, my smartphone worked for more than five years and decided that it was enough. It constantly freezes and refuses to take photos and I'm not sure that it will last until the Christmas sales. On the other hand, if the dollar rate skyrockets, I'll lose even more.

Today is a surprisingly calm and sunny day and I only worked a couple of hours in the morning, sorting out one difficult case. Then I went to the store, and at lunchtime, taking advantage of the good propagation, I chatted with Colin G3ZAF and Terry G3VFO for over an hour. This is the first QSO with Terry, but thanks to the amplifier, he was clearly audible and it was nice to meet him.

Another piece of wonderful news - my house has been connected to the heating. Frosts are expected this night, so warmth will be helpful.

Ukrainian company presents advanced interceptor drone set to neutralize russian reconnaissance threats https://en.defence-ua.com/news/ukrainian_company_presents_advanced_interceptor_drone_set_to_neutralize_russian_reconnaissance_threats-12377.html

Indeed, the most modern technologies are born and tested in real combat conditions in Ukraine. Unfortunately, most of the developers are immediately bought out by foreign companies.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, made a fuss because Google showed the location of Ukraine's military systems on its updated maps. https://suspilne.media/871801-google-pokazav-na-svoih-kartah-roztasuvanna-ukrainskogo-ozbroenna-centr-protidii-dezinformacii/

I wonder why it surprises him. Apparently, he does not know anything about the fact that, in addition to Google, there are a lot of other companies and their satellites, including the military, which provide russia and China with the same images. https://www.worldatlas.com/space/countries-by-number-of-military-satellites.html#:~:text=The%20country%20with%20the%20most,third%20is%20Russia%20with%20110.

Ukraine and russia are conducting confidential negotiations with the aim of reaching compromises, reports the editor of the political department of the German publication Die Zeit Alisa Botha. https://www.zeit.de/politik/ausland/2024-10/krieg-ukraine-diplomatie-verhandlungen-russland-5vor8

My attention was not drawn to the negotiations themselves, but to the fact that they began to be written about in the media.

When I began to see messages on social media that doctors, engineers, and recently gunners, tankers, and even air defense personnel find themselves in the infantry, get injured and die, I thought it was russian propaganda. But this was first written by MP Maryana Bezugla, who noted that the Air Force began to shoot down fewer "Shaheeds" due to the dispatch of many soldiers to the infantry, and then it was confirmed by Colonel Yuriy Ignat, the head of the public relations service of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/ignat-pidtverdiv-zayavu-bezugloi-pro-perevid-viyskovikh-z-ppo-v-pikhotu

And MP Roman Kostenko said that Ukraine needs to mobilize 500,000 citizens due to the current situation on the battlefield.
https://24tv.ua/mobilizatsiya-ukrayini-kostenko-skazav-shho-treba-mobilizuvati_n2677449

But even observers in Austria are able to draw the right conclusions:
Excuses like ‘Ukraine has too few men in age 19-21’ to mobilise and send to war are BS. It has enough to defeat Russia (and it has not only men, but also women of that age) – provided these are properly trained, equipped and – especially – properly commanded. The issue is of mobilising, motivating, and then properly deploying the available ‘manpower’: that’s within responsibility of a government - provided this would be doing its job, which it isn’t. Vice versa: with current leadership, Ukraine couldn’t win this war even if mobilising 10 million of troops. Because its current leadership has no idea how to mobilise and organise the entire society and economy, nor is it interested in finding commanders that can win this war. The current leadership has only managed to ruin even its reputation for begging for help from the West, while its generals are excelling in squandering meagre resources in massive battles of attrition (or failures they have created, and then bolstered), getting rid of unpleasant subordinates through ordering them into idiotic frontal counterattacks, and pocketing bribes at every opportunity.

Overall (and I’m the first to be ‘unhappy’ by this ‘unpleasant’ conclusion): sorry, but, Ukraine needs new leadership, and a complete, top-to-bottom reform of its governance and armed forces.

https://xxtomcooperxx.substack.com/p/dreamland?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

We can't allow the idea that Ukraine is ruled by idiots? Does that mean they are doing it on purpose? And if they really are idiots, then what can this country expect?

Today I stayed home, but my workday was 12 hours, interrupted only by a short lunch and a call from Cicely. We couldn't remember the last time we spoke.

Today the main topic of all conversations is Trump's convincing victory in the elections. It's hard for me to judge what kind of president he is, but I admire him as a person. I don't know if there is anyone else on earth who could win such a fight at such an age. I hope he really needs it, because being the president of the USA is very difficult and you can spend the rest of your health on it.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed laws on the extension of martial law in Ukraine and on the extension of general mobilization. https://www.unian.ua/society/mobilizaciya-ta-voyenniy-stan-v-ukrajini-prodovzheni-zelenskiy-pidpisav-ukazi-12810939.html

He also rushed to congratulate Trump on his victory, but I don't think Zelensky is happy about that. I wouldn't want Ukraine to lose US support because of him and his personal relationship with Trump. Although thieves and impostors seized power in the country (let me remind you that the powers of both the president and parliament expired long ago), the country continued to exist, and now its fate depends entirely on Trump's position.

On the other hand, maybe Trump will do something that will open up other possibilities than the slow destruction of Ukraine's population and infrastructure under the Democrats. I wouldn't give Ukraine another year to exist if Harris wins. Their persistent support for Zelensky and his gang makes me suspect something more. I wouldn't be surprised if we soon learn a lot of interesting details about their relationship.

Another fact speaks volumes about the authorities’ ability to govern the country. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported in response to an information request to the Ukrainian media, there are no ambassadors in almost 30 Ukrainian embassies.

In particular, there are no ambassadors in the following countries: Algeria, Angola, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Ghana, Greece, Georgia, Ethiopia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Malaysia, Mozambique, Moldova, Norway, Oman, Rwanda, Thailand, Tanzania, Turkey, Hungary, Philippines. https://nv.ua/ukr/ukraine/politics/posli-ukrajini-u-sviti-zelenskiy-anonsuvav-kadrovi-zmini-y-priznachennya-50464111.html

Apparently the candidates did not have enough money to pay bribes separately for the appointment and separately for the opportunity to leave the country.

Another noisy night in Kyiv and destruction in almost all areas. They say the russians are now using modified drones with thermobaric explosives instead of high explosives, and now there is more destruction. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/czd5vzrpz58o

And yesterday, as a result of an attack by russian UAVs on an energy facility, power was partially cut off in Zhytomyr and Rivne regions. https://unn.ua/news/ataka-rf-na-enerhetyku-pryzvela-do-chastkovoho-znestrumlennia-zhytomyrshchyny-ta-rivnenshchyny-ukrenerho

Due to the constant air raid sirens and blocked bridges, as well as severe traffic jams, I have again stayed to work from home. In my case, this does not mean a decrease, but an increase in work because I do not waste time on the road. We are short of people and I have to be a playing coach, doing one thing or another, compensating for the lack of performers. I am constantly trying to find lawyers without success, but judging by the ads, many law firms in Ukraine have the same problems. So I am even more pleased with the wonderful people who are already my team.

Since in Ukraine the state is not an assistant and certainly not a protector, but an enemy of business, I am not surprised that arms manufacturers are leaving the country. Most of the Ukrainian companies that produce weapons are planning to transfer part of their activities abroad or have already done so. It is about almost 85%. https://www.lefigaro.fr/international/pourquoi-l-ukraine-veut-exporter-une-partie-des-armes-qu-elle-produit-20241107

One of my acquaintances, a manufacturer, says that another increase in taxes or increased mobilization will cause him to stop production.

Another batch of lies from the Prime Minister. According to him, summonses are sent to people who do not pay a single hryvnia of taxes and are not registered anywhere as working people. Today the priority of mobilization is given to people who are not working, the unemployed. https://focus.ua/uk/voennye-novosti/677404-mobilizaciya-v-ukrajini-hto-pershiy-otrimuye-povistki-v-ukrajini

But in reality, as soon as a person starts working officially or updates his data in any way, he immediately receives a summons.

Today I observed a discussion about the difference between nationality and citizenship in the context that not every person with Ukrainian citizenship is Ukrainian. This is dangerous reasoning. It can lead to the conclusion that a situation where you cannot renounce citizenship and are physically held by the authorities is no longer citizenship, but slavery.

Everyone is wondering what Trump will do and what scenario he will choose to end the war in Ukraine. https://www.wsj.com/world/trump-presidency-ukraine-russia-war-plans-008655c0?msockid=2727718dcf746fd1308264aece666e06 But I was interested to listen to russian propaganda on the radio. Their commentators are sad and gloomy, which is the best way to know that Trump is a bad option for them.

Wlad, I have of course been reading your posts with great interest (as have many others, I suspect).
As to the US election, I'll give you my perspective for whatever it's worth, vis a vis Ukraine: First, I think few people in the new Administration will want to abandon Ukraine. Naturally, there are many average citizens who would, but these are people who have a narrow perspective and have mostly never been in a leadership or high-level decision-making position. Politicians may express sympathy for their viewpoint to garner their votes, but they are not going to take these citizens' advice on geopolitical matters.

My understanding of Trump's view on Ukraine is that he's willing to compromise to achieve peace, unlike Zelensky who seems to be unwilling to compromise, but instead insists on total victory (as long as someone else is paying the price for it). It might be better to preserve a large part of Ukraine, let it join NATO, while there is still something left to preserve.

Also, Trump feels that Europe should shoulder the lion's share of Ukraine's defense, since Ukraine is a hell of a lot closer to Europe than to the USA, Europe's annual GDP is about equal to the USA's GDP, and hence the logic goes: why doesn't Europe devote as much to defense as the US does? (Especially in light of the US fiscal situation, which is dire and getting more unsustainable every year).

Yet, Trump isn't going to just pull the rug out from under Ukraine, as that would ruin his negotiating position against Russia. My guess is, he will ramp things up militarily, inflict as much pain on Russia as he can while he is negotiating with them, all the while privately informing Zelensky that he has a limited time frame for US support, so Zelensky had better become a lot more flexible in terms of what he considers to be an acceptable peace.

That's what a good negotiator would do. Trump has spent his whole life negotiating, so I think he has as good a shot as anyone in resolving the conflict in a way that won't be ideal, but perhaps will be tolerable.

Just catching up.

I’m glad that Maryna was able to visit you and returned to Poland safely. Happy also that your work is going well and your team there is working.  I hope you will find some good people to add to staff.

Sorry to hear that your phone is malfunctioning. Are replacements in short supply and/or very costly there?

I read Tom Coopers commentary. Yes, sarcastic per its title, but seems on target. It’s difficult to imagine how the leadership in Ukraine could have been any worse.

Which brings me to what the US and NATO, ( ie mostly Germany) will do after Trump is inaugurated. Unfortunately I do not share Brady’s cautiously hopeful outlook, sorry.

Past performance is usually the best predictor of future performance (though not the only one, of course). Given his first term, severe narcissistic personality disorders, and perhaps the beginnings of dementia, I expect that his second term will be characterized by even more chaos than his first.

Add in that he is reportedly planning to appoint people into the cabinet and other vital positions who are loyalists first, second and third, and perhaps competent in their field as fourth, so there will be even fewer people in his orbit to tell truth to power, or to know what to do in their positions.

Based upon his first term, and well publicized reports by several former close advisors and retired top military, I do not expect that he can make sound strategic and tactical geopolitical decisions based on thorough knowledge of the situation and careful consideration of options. Not to mention motivation: He has no real interest in such matters other than how they might bolster his wealth, self image, and popularity among his admirers, and in any case he would rather play golf and leave the messy details to others.

OK - so having said that, what do I expect? First, as I said, is chaos. So trying to estimate what he might do is a fools errand, since that requires reasonably reliable facts and logical extrapolations.

But a wild guess is that he will very much want to satisfy his campaign pledge by rapidly ending the war which necessarily means appeasing Putin so that he will agree. Putin is under little urgency to stop the war and has enough men and material to continue fighting for a long time, plus a compliant population, so Trump has little to offer him.

Trump has no love for Zelenskyy who refused to do his bidding vis a vis Hunter Biden so he will be told to sit down and shut up or not even one more dollar or artillery shell will be provided.  Also, Germany and the other NATO members will go along having tired of the situation and needing to replenish arms given to Ukraine and increase military spending anyway. (So to must the US).

The net result will probably be either an armistice and a frozen conflict similar to the Korean Peninsula or a de facto ceding of Crimea and eastern Ukraine to Russia. Putin will try again to take all of Ukraine of course, so either of these will be only temporary. Not so different from how Trump negotiated with the Taliban to end that war.

On edit: And no NATO membership for Ukraine.  Perhaps security guarantees, but we saw how valuable those were in this war. /s

Another Saturday, and I woke up with difficulty. I was so tired last week that yesterday evening I was no longer able to think and put off reading all my work mail and studying documents until Monday. Perhaps my sleepy state is also caused by the weather. Instead of the sun, the sky is now covered with clouds. However, at lunchtime I turned on the radio and according to the schedule, there were both Colin G3ZAF and Sergiy UT3UFD, who soon came in person and invited me for coffee. I also started repairing another radio, which was sent to me by a person who saw my videos. It helps to distract and relax.

Drone attacks continue constantly, but one of them was successfully repelled by a Kyiv skyscraper. After the drone hit the technical floor of one of the Kyiv skyscrapers, a fire broke out on the 33rd floor. Thanks to modern fire-fighting systems activated automatically, the fire remained localized without spreading to other parts of the building. As the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine explains, this was possible thanks to splinker extinguishing systems and the use of materials with high fire resistance that meet the latest standards.

The splinker system reacts instantly — in the event of smoke or high temperature being detected, the spraying of water or foam solution is triggered directly at the point of ignition. Thus, the fire on the 33rd floor was stopped before the arrival of firefighters, which saved the residents and the premises from large-scale consequences. https://life.kyiv.ua/news/yak-kivskiy-hmarochos-samostiyno-zupiniv-pozhezhu-pislya-ataki-shaheda

Also, as a result of a russian airstrike on Kupyansk, not far from the front in the east, two people were killed, and another man was injured. Many buildings were damaged. https://www.slovoidilo.ua/2024/11/09/novyna/suspilstvo/okupanty-zavdaly-aviaudaru-po-kupyansku-ye-zahybli

A Biden administration push to send billions of dollars of military equipment to Ukraine before it leaves office is facing major logistical hurdles and is raising concern that the transfers will deplete already-stretched U.S. stockpiles, officials said. The USA will urgently send to Ukraine 500 interceptor missiles for the NASAMS and Patriot air defense systems. https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/u-s-struggles-to-rush-weapons-to-ukraine-before-trump-takes-office-dfabb1fd

Poland has released official data on aid to Ukraine since the start of the russian invasion in 2022. According to the results, the country became the leader among the allies in terms of the amount of military and humanitarian aid relative to its GDP. The total amount of assistance is €3.23 billion, which is 4.91% of the Polish GDP. Of this amount, 0.71% was spent on supporting Ukraine, and 4.2% on aid to Ukrainian refugees. This is stated on the website of the President of Poland. https://www.prezydent.pl/aktualnosci/wydarzenia/polska-pomoc-dla-ukrainy,93620

Thanks Braden and Bob for your opinions. It allows me to better understand what is happening and will happen in the US and, accordingly, gives me an understanding of what to prepare for in Ukraine.

You can imagine the number of opinions and scenarios that anyone who considers themselves knowledgeable in politics offers. That is, almost everyone.

The most amazing thing is that everyone is confident not only that the war will end soon, but also that elections will be held in the spring. Some are even already making plans to open airports in Ukraine.

The wildest of the conspiracy theories suggests that former President and Zelensky's enemy number 1, Poroshenko, will implement a cunning plan to seize power by nominating Zaluzhny for president. This will be financed personally by Poroshenko and the generals, who, it turns out, stole money and created corruption schemes for a reason.

A senior adviser to president-elect Donald Trump says the incoming administration will focus on achieving peace in the war in Ukraine rather than enabling the country to gain back territory. Bryan Lanza, a Republican party strategist, told the BBC the Trump administration would ask Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his version of a "realistic vision for peace". "And if President Zelensky comes to the table and says, well we can only have peace if we have Crimea, he shows to us that he's not serious," he said. "Crimea is gone." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czxrwr078v7o

Of course, this is only one of many statements, but no one knows what exactly Trump will do and how. Perhaps he has already agreed on everything with the leaders of Europe, russia and China, but we will find out about this later. By the way, the political crisis in Germany and the prospect of early elections there make Europe's support for Ukraine very unstable and unpredictable. Well, we have entered a period of maximum turbulence.

Ukraine needs at least 4.5 million additional workers. But, despite such an acute need for workers, there are almost twice as many people of working age in the country who are not officially registered at any job. The Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Tetyana Berezhna spoke at the 10th Kyiv International Economic Forum about this main paradox of the domestic labor market, Interfax reports. https://interfax.com.ua/news/economic/1025828.html

Apparently, the authorities need to sometimes come out of their offices, securely protected from the people, and talk to ordinary people to understand who really created this problem. For some reason, no one else cites Israel as an example, where there is also a big war, but no one has closed the borders, banned soldiers from rotation and demobilization, and no one is catching people on the streets.

Rest day today. Had a QSO with Colin and unexpectedly called the Slovak expedition from Cocos (Keeling) Islands VK9CV.
There was an air alarm during the night but I didn't hear anything. But it looks like tonight russia and Ukraine have carried out their largest drone attacks against each other since the start of the war. russia's defence ministry said it intercepted 84 Ukrainian drones over six regions, including some approaching Moscow, which forced flights to be diverted from three of the capital's major airports. Ukraine's air force said russia launched 145 drones towards every part of the country on Saturday night, with most shot down. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx28jd0114ro
