Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) says it has managed to strike the Crimea bridge with underwater explosives following an operation lasting "several months". russian media initially said the bridge was briefly closed to traffic but that it had reopened by 10:00 local time. However, later in the day, local authorities warned the bridge was closed again.

Clearly Ukraine is the world’s leader in the emerging field of relatively inexpensive but powerful attack UAVs and UUVs operated remotely over great distances.

Credible reports say that the US government was not informed of these attacks until they were well underway. This is unsurprising given the pro Russian bias of the administration and the recent amateurish security lapses at highest levels of the state and defense departments.

Right on cue as I had predicted, the "I'll destroy the world if you fight back" message has been received. I've lost count as to how many times the world has been destroyed in the last 3 years.
In English, we have a saying, "when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."
Putin really needs to come up with new threat. That one is all worn out.

They should, if that were possible. But, I really do think it's the only tool he has left. The last three years have revealed to the world that they are not a military power, and what is Russia without fear and threats of aggression? (Even if, in the case of nukes, it's a threat he dares not to use).
If they can't bully people, they are forced to face the fact that they are a country with a large territory but a tiny GDP, due to their corrupt and flawed system of government.

The powerful attack by Ukrainian UAVs on russian strategic airfields on June 1 allegedly increased the risk of an escalation of the conflict. However, the United States is trying to prevent this.

This was stated by the US Special Representative for Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Fox News.

He indignantly stated that when during a war "you attack part of the national survival system of the enemy, in particular its nuclear triad, then this significantly increases your risk level."

"You don't know what the other side will do next. You are not sure, and that is what they (Ukraine) actually did... I think that is what we are trying to avoid... We would not like to get to that point," said Kellogg. https://www.foxnews.com/video/6373840523112

For the first time since the U.S. created the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (known as Ramstein) three years ago to coordinate military assistance to Ukraine, the Pentagon chief will not attend a meeting of more than 50 other defense leaders on Wednesday. It is the latest in a series of steps the U.S. has taken to distance itself from the military action in Ukraine. And it comes after French President Emmanuel Macron warned at a security conference last weekend that the U.S. and others risked dangerous double standards if they focused on a potential conflict with China at the cost of abandoning Ukraine. https://unn.ua/news/ochilnyk-pentahonu-vpershe-propustyt-ramshtain-ap

Vladimir putin has said he will have to respond to Ukraine's major drone attack on russian airbases, US President Donald Trump has warned. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2r108l785o

The last few days have been quiet in Kyiv, although every day we expect a large-scale air attack.

The US Embassy again warns of the threat of new russian shelling. russia has increased the intensity of its missile and drone attacks against Ukraine in recent weeks, and there is currently a continued risk of significant air attacks. https://ua.usembassy.gov/security-alert-u-s-embassy-kyiv-ukraine-june-4-2025/

russian troops launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the training units in the Poltava region this afternoon. There are wounded soldiers among the soldiers. This was reported by the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. https://www.slovoidilo.ua/2025/06/04/novyna/suspilstvo/rosiya-vdaryla-raketoyu-po-navchalnomu-pidrozdilu-zsu-poltavshhyni-ye-poraneni
My friend, who is not responding yet, may be in this camp right now.

In the Rivne region, employees of the territorial recruitment center detained a man riding a bicycle. The incident occurred right in the middle of the street. According to preliminary data, the military stopped the man without explanation, after which they used tear gas, beat him and forcibly dragged him into a service car.

Eyewitnesses report that the man resisted and shouted loudly. However, the military acted aggressively and did not respond to requests from passers-by. Later, it became known that the detainee was unfit for military service due to health reasons. Despite this, he was still taken to a military unit.

The State Bureau of Investigation has opened criminal proceedings and notes that the actions of the TCC employees are classified as abuse of authority committed with the use of violence. If proven guilty, the perpetrators face punishment of up to six years in prison. https://kriminal.tv/news/shestirichnij_termin_za_bus_scho_zagrozhuje_pratsivnikam_ttsk_u_rivnenskij_oblasti.html

The Ukrainian bar is once again faced with manifestations of extra-procedural influence on lawyers with the aim of preventing the exercise of their legal powers related to the provision of professional legal assistance to clients. During the proceedings in the Podilsky district court of Kyiv criminal case, according to two lawyers who participated in this hearing, the prosecutor — the procedural opponent in the case — called police officers to the court who tried to forcefully mobilize the lawyers. https://unba.org.ua/news/10356-mobilizaciya-advokativ-u-sudi-naau-fiksue-chergovij-fakt-tisku.html

Despite constant fatigue and lack of free time, I could not resist the temptation to make a dozen QSO when 50MHz opened yesterday. All of Europe from the UK and Sweden to Italy and France was heard on the air, although I am limited by the power and how the tuner allows me to tune my 28MHz antenna.

I was being sarcastic. But, of course you’re correct, it’s the only credible force he has left, and the only thing that prevented Russia from losing the war early on to Ukraine supplied with longe range weaponry, and permission to use it, from the US and EU.

Wlad, I hope that your friend, possibly in the attacked military camp, is uninjured. Of course I also hope he will not be sent to the front. What an awful situation.

Is there any chance that the TCC employees involved in snatching the man riding a bicycle will actually be held to account?

I watched the Fox interviews of Keith Kellogg. The first one, prior to the audacious drone attacks, astounded me when he gave support for Russia’s justification for attacking Ukraine, is partly because NATO is a threat and getting too close, in their view. Talk about giving ammunition to the enemy! It doesn’t take much work on Google to find Russian and friendly news reports immediately trumpeting that Kellogg “admitted” that NATO is a [offensive] threat to Russia.

Oops! The Russians will be quoting him for years.

In the second interview, after the drone attacks, Kellogg makes the reasonable point that attacking strategic nuclear force elements is increases the risk level because it’s uncertain what the Russians will do. However he omitted that those same strategic bombers are routinely used to launch very destructive conventional weapons on civilians in Ukraine, making them legitimate and urgent targets for defense of Ukraine.

Again, this gives the Russians unjustified support for their indignation over the attack. To be fair, Kellogg then qualified his statement somewhat by referring to the as yet unverified drone attack on the Northern Fleet headquarters (a major base for Russian nuclear missile submarines) and not involved directly in the war AFAIK, but the damage had been done.

Is Kellogg biased toward Russia? Is he merely careless with his comments? Is he playing a “good cop, bad cop” psychological game with Ukraine against Russia? Or, is he simply being very careful not to cross the famously thin skinned Trump who likes Putin, is clearly distancing the US from Ukraine, and seems to be losing interest?

On the TCC employees, do you think that there is any chance of them going to trial, found guilty and punished?

Wlad, I hope that your friend, possibly in the attacked military camp, is uninjured. Of course I also hope he will not be sent to the front. What an awful situation.

He called back and said that it happened in a neighboring military unit, but his morale is very low. And this is not surprising, because he was previously held in a place where there was a riot of other people who were illegally held there. On Wednesday morning, videos began to spread on social networks, showing men arguing with representatives of this mobilization center. This is the main gathering point in Kyiv before being sent to training units.

Then they try to barricade themselves in a room, after which law enforcement officers enter it. A video is also being distributed in which men in military uniform beat a man in civilian clothes tied to a bed.

Later, the Kyiv City Mobilization Center responded to the appearance of the video. Their message on Facebook says that "during the preparation of teams to send citizens called up for mobilization to training centers, riots began." Law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene to stabilize the situation. They also added that the men called up for mobilization were then sent to training centers according to distribution.

https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c4gr5zdx0yxo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuuRxbXnfBA
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/63HbQVJDQCg

And three years ago we laughed at the russians who did the same thing, only the russians quickly stopped such shameful behavior.
I wonder how soon the Ukrainian army will start using barrier units?

It is interesting that the courts refuse to consider complaints about the illegal detention of people in mobilization centers, citing the fact that the complainants are not a person detained within the meaning of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine, and the complaint filed is not related to the pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings, which excludes the powers of the investigating judge in these proceedings.

The Court of Appeal notes that the detention of a citizen by employees of mobilization centers and his detention without a corresponding court decision is not subject to appeal to the investigating judge, since such legal relations are regulated by the current legislation on mobilization and mobilization training, the verification of the legality of whose actions in such a case does not fall within the powers of the investigating judge and is not subject to consideration in accordance with the procedure of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. https://reyestr.court.gov.ua/Review/127525044

Also today, June 5, the russian military hit the Kherson Regional State Administration building several times with guided aerial bombs, which is now completely destroyed. https://www.5.ua/regiony/rosiiany-znyshchyly-budivliu-khersonskoi-oda-foto-352936.html

So sorry for your friend to be caught up in the forced mobilization and now this situation.

That night, neither I nor most Kyivans and residents of other cities were able to sleep. russia again launched large-scale drone and missile strikes on Kyiv, as well as the city of Lutsk and the Ternopil region in the north-west of the country. At least three people were killed and 49 injured in the strikes. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg7zy1jq7no
https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/332904-v-kieve-vo-vremya-likvidatsii-posledstviy-udarov-rf-pogibli-troe-spasateley

A section of the metro in my area was damaged and there were major traffic jams, which is why I decided not to go to the office at all, which only a few people got to today. https://sud.ua/uk/news/video/332906-ocheredi-na-ostanovkakh-i-kosmicheskie-tseny-na-taksi-video-transportnogo-kollapsa-v-kieve

The russian army is intensifying its offensive in the Sumy region, which it began three months ago. According to military analysts, the russians are already 20-25 km from the outskirts of the densely populated regional center. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c30821r2qmjo

But Ukraine's ability to resist a russian attack is rapidly diminishing.

Ukraine’s drone strikes deep into russia delivered a humiliating blow to Moscow last weekend. Kyiv’s defenders celebrated the attack as a triumph of modern warfare and a warning to russian President Vladimir putin. But the extraordinary operation got a different response inside the White House: anger.

The Atlantic wrote that Donald Trump has openly vented in recent weeks about putin’s unwillingness to end the war. But since Sunday’s attack, which hit a series of russian military airfields, the president has privately expressed frustration that the strike could escalate the conflict, according to three administration officials and an outside adviser to the White House. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/06/ukraine-russia-trump-drones/683043/

Ukraine's government has criticised a decision to take billions of euros of russian wealth frozen in Europe and hand it to Western investors, warning that it weakened Europe's stand against Moscow. The criticism follows a move last month by Belgium's Euroclear to take 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) of russian investor cash held at the clearing firm to pay Westerners who lost out when Moscow seized their money held in russia. https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/ukraine-hits-out-europes-payout-frozen-russian-cash-2025-06-05/

A person died in a car explosion in the Bereziv district of the Odessa region. The media and publics are writing about the death of the head of the mobilization center. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/v-odeskiy-oblasti-vibukhnuv-avtomobil-ttsk-voenkom-zaginuv-na-mistsi-zmi

I don't know if this is the work of russian special services with the aim of disrupting the mobilization, or someone from the illegally mobilized or their relatives, or because of the huge amount of dirty money that passes through the officials of the mobilization centers, but in any case it is a very bad thing.

At the very least, it is proposed to include a court's recognition of the illegality of mobilization in the list of grounds for dismissal from service, since currently even a court's recognition of the illegality of forced mobilization is not a basis for the dismissal of such a mobilized person. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/332897-priznanie-sudom-protivopravnosti-mobilizatsii-predlagaetsya-vnesti-v-perechen-osnovaniy-dlya-uvolneniya-so-sluzhby

As russia’s war against Ukraine drags on into its fourth year, many Ukrainian refugees have integrated and settled in Europe. Kyiv is seeking ways to motivate them to return home. https://www.euronews.com/2025/06/05/kyiv-will-not-force-ukrainian-refugees-to-come-back-home-but-it-hopes-they-will

The URC2025 will take place in Rome on 10 and 11 July 2025. It will be the fourth Ukraine Recovery Conference, continuing the annual series of high-level political events dedicated to the swift recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine since the beginning of russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine.

Governments, international organisations, financial institutions, businesses, regions, municipalities and civil society will come together, united by a shared commitment to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine for as long as needed. The participants will represent the various stakeholder groups, demonstrating their strong engagement for Ukraine’s future.

The conference will reflect the Lugano principles, including a “whole of society” approach to recovery through the meaningful participation of a broad range of stakeholders. https://www.urc-international.com/

The topic of Seva's thesis is dedicated to the restoration of Ukraine, and he really wants to attend this conference, but he still can't find an organization that would send him to participate.

If the Ukrainian government wants people to return to their homeland, they surely have a strange strategy for accomplishing it, given the brutish tactics of the mobilization.
Yet even in this, I blame the Soviets for instilling this tyrannical culture into Ukrainian society. The desperation of the military situation isn't helping, naturally.

Also a legacy of Russian Empire rule prior to the Soviets, but made far worse by the Soviets. I believe that Ukraine wasn’t any worse in corruption and brutality than any other area in that part of Europe in the premodern days of kings and princes.

While we’re on the topic, I note that Wlad has been correct about virtually everything related to government dysfunction and corruption, and his predictions thereof.

WASHINGTON, June 7 (Reuters) - The United States believes that russian President Vladimir putin's threatened retaliation against Ukraine over its drone attack last weekend has not happened yet in earnest and is likely to be a significant, multi-pronged strike, U.S. officials told Reuters. The timing of the full russian response was unclear, with one source saying it was expected within days. A second U.S. official said the retaliation was likely to include different kinds of air capabilities, including missiles and drones. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/us-believes-russia-response-ukraine-drone-attack-not-over-yet-expects-multi-2025-06-07/

Over the weekend I tried to rest as much as possible and slept a lot to recover. The weather changes from heat and sun to rain and cold the next day. Add magnetic storms and the situation in general. I'm still holding up well despite all this.

I also missed the Field Day competition again, which I last participated in in 2021, when I took second place among stations outside the UK. https://www.us7ign.com/?p=1821

It was really interesting to chat with Colin G3ZAF and Phil G8KBI on Zoom, as the radio is not working as well this year as it was last year. It's great to hear that the interest and support from our English friends is not weakening.

There was another large-scale air attack that night, I heard explosions in Kyiv, but it seems the main blow was delivered to the western region. The main targets of the russian attack that night were Dubno and Rivne. The places where I spent my childhood with my grandparents. https://rivnepost.rv.ua/news/vnochi-na-rivnenshchini-lunali-vibukhi-voroh-atakuvav-dronami-ta-raketami

Earlier russia has hit Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv, with a massive drone and bomber attack, killing four people and injuring nearly 60, officials say. Two people were also killed in russian strikes on Kherson, in southern Ukraine, local authorities said.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 48 drones, two missiles and four glide bombs had been used against his city on Friday night, while more glide bombs were reportedly dropped on Saturday. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwyjd1z8yg5o

Ukraine is also trying to attack with drones in response. russian public forums report a possible hit at one of the factories, which produces electrical equipment and mechanical engineering in Cheboksary, a city in western Russia on the Volga River. https://weukraine.tv/novyny/nevidomi-droni-atakuvali-zavod-u-cheboksarakh/

The United States believes that russian President Vladimir putin's threatened retaliation against Ukraine over its drone attack last weekend has not happened yet in earnest and is likely to be a significant, multi-pronged strike, U.S. officials told Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/us-believes-russia-response-ukraine-drone-attack-not-over-yet-expects-multi-2025-06-07/

Ukraine provoked russia into launching a massive strike on Ukrainian cities, US President Donald Trump said, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on June 6.
"They gave putin reason to go in and bomb the hell out of this last night. That's the thing I didn't like about it. When I saw it, I said, 'Here we go. Now it's going to be a strike.'"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRkGiKk3Wxs

But for some, there is clearly no war and they are looking for an opportunity to attract attention to themselves, which predictably ended in a fight. On Saturday, June 7, the KyivPride Park festival took place in the center of Kyiv — an educational and charity event in support of the LGBTIQ+ community.

The Kyiv Metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine sharply condemned the event. In an official statement, the church called "KyivPride" a "deliberate cynical anti-church provocation." The OCU emphasized that the event held under the walls of the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery on the eve of the Holy Trinity Day "is not a coincidence, but indicates the organizers' deliberate provocative and anti-church intentions." https://kiev.tram.news/ukr/news/society/a1256215-kijivprajd-u-stolitsi-zavershivsja-zatrimannjami-protivnikiv-ta-osudzhennjam-tserkvi.html

The European Union's cancellation of autonomous trade measures for Ukraine from June 6, 2025 and the return to pre-war quotas will affect trade worth $3.5 billion and could reduce Ukrainian exporters' revenue by $800 million.

At the same time, the scenario that the European Commission had been laying out back in 2024 — the transition from autonomous trade measures to a renewed and liberalized free trade agreement — did not work. This was stated on Facebook by First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. https://biz.nv.ua/ukr/markets/torgivlya-z-yevrosoyuzom-problemi-dlya-ukrajinskih-kompaniy-pochnutsya-cherez-dva-misyaci-sviridenko-50520345.html

Few people in Kyiv managed to sleep today. Drones were buzzing in the air all night, air defense firing. I want to say that when a ballistic missile is shot down nearby, it is a special feeling. The whole house trembles from the vibration. And the explosions from drone and missile hits are different from the explosions when they are shot down in the air. When you hear several drones at the same time and don't understand where they are flying, especially when they fly very close, the hair on your skin stands on end.
Surprisingly, I felt relatively well today, although some employees went home early to sleep.
In the morning, the city was covered in smoke, which indicated that there were quite a few hits.
There are dead and injured, several residential high-rises are burning in Kyiv, and a maternity hospital and an ambulance station have been destroyed in Odessa.
https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/ceqg8jrwwrzo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8ody2vEoOY

The General Staff reports that over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian armed forces have eliminated another 960 occupiers. Our soldiers also destroyed 426 units of enemy equipment and weapons, including 2 aircraft. As of the morning of June 10, russia's losses in a full-scale war against Ukraine have already exceeded 998 thousand.
https://24tv.ua/vtrati-voroga-10-chervnya-2025-roku-skilki-okupantiv-znishheno_n2842790

This is pleasing, but it is better not to look at the map that depicts the front line, which shows the gradual and relentless advance of the russians. https://deepstatemap.live/#8/48.2590000/36.0350000

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that a long-term ceasefire in Ukraine will allow russia to increase its weapons stockpiles, increasing the risks for the bloc’s member states. He expressed this opinion during a speech at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London (Chatham House) on June 9.

Among other things, Rutte agreed that the fact that russia, after a possible ceasefire in the war against Ukraine, will start accumulating weapons, increasing the risks for NATO. https://www.youtube.com/live/Gtq_OeASgfE

So this is effectively an admission that prolonging the war is in NATO’s interests.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Western partners are delaying tougher sanctions against russia, including because Ukraine does not mobilize people from the age of 18 into the army. He said this in an interview with the Hungarian publication Válasz Online, published on June 10.

"I have never said this before, but since you asked, I will tell you what I think, because this is a delicate issue: I do not believe that we should mobilize people from the age of 18, as leaders of other countries believe," Zelensky said when asked about the problems with mobilization in Ukraine.

According to him, Operation Spiderweb, during which Ukrainian drones hit many military aircraft at russian airfields, showed that "it is not the number of people that is important, but weapons and technology."

"And money and pressure. Sanctions could deprive the russians of money to finance the war. But when it comes to sanctions, Western partners, among the reasons why they do not impose them, say, in particular, that Ukraine has not mobilized since the age of 18," Zelensky noted.

In the same interview with Válasz Online, Zelensky said that Ukraine can mobilize 27 thousand people per month, while "the russians can mobilize from 40 to 50 thousand, because their losses are greater." https://www.valaszonline.hu/2025/06/10/volodimir-zelenszkij-ukrajna-haboru-kijev-oroszorszag-orban-viktor-vlagyimir-putyin-interju/

All very interesting reporting, my friend. I happened to hear (while watching Deutsche Welle) Rutte say his remarks about Russia arming up to take on NATO, after the war. Whether he's right or not I do not know, but I do hope his EU allies believe him, and start to divert more of their budgets to armaments.
I think Putin is probably too old to actually see such an offensive through. But his successor may be as murderous and crazy as Putin.

I’m relieved that you were not harmed in the attacks, Wlad, and pray for your continued safety.

I’m sorry to hear that Seva may not be able to attend the conference, but it sounds like he doing very well in his studies.

Did Rutte actually state or imply that NATO should act to prolong the war? Or was he only stating the obvious, that this time is an opportunity to rearm in Europe? Regardless of a long term cease fire, or peace, or even military defeat, Russia will still rearm, and sooner than many would like to think.

The one person, President of the United States, who could actually make a difference in stopping this war has decided to let the “children” fight it out for a while. Perhaps he will take up the fiddle, and play it while his buddy bombards Ukrainian civilians for the temerity of destroying aircraft he used to launch missiles against them.

Re: Ukraine updates in English
« Ответ #869 : Июня 12, 2025, 11:56:13 pm »
Hello friends! Fortunately, there was no damage in my area this time, and last night was generally calm.

Rutte stated the fact that while the war is going on in Ukraine, it is not going on in NATO countries. This may indeed suit NATO, but there is one caveat - Ukrainians are not endless.

On the morning of June 12, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published daily statistics, which it has been keeping since the beginning of the full-scale war. It indicates the estimated losses of the russian army. For the first time, according to the Ukrainian military, they exceeded 1 million people. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c2d56xej0d7o

The reliability of this figure is questionable, but it is obvious that it is timed to coincide with russia National Day.

But the real surprise and disgust was caused by the press statement of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who congratulated the russians on the holiday. "On behalf of the American people, I want to congratulate the russian people on russia Day. The United States remains committed to supporting the russian people as they continue to build on their aspirations for a brighter future." https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2025/06/russia-national-day/

Meanwhile, on June 12, 2025, two special investment agreements were signed in Lviv between the Cabinet of Ministers, the Slavsky Village Council and investors - LLC "SLAVSKY" and LLC "ROZHANKA PARK". These companies have been implementing an investment project in cooperation with the Slavsky Village Council since the fall of 2024 with a total volume of 140 million euros. This involves the construction of an all-season mountain resort GORO Mountain Resort. On behalf of the Government, the agreement was signed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

The essence of the program is the possibility of compensation of up to 30% of capital investments for projects worth 12 million euros or more through a number of forms of state support.

In particular, it provides for:
exemption from profit tax (up to 5 years);
exemption from import duty and import VAT on new equipment;
compensation for costs of engineering infrastructure (electricity networks, substations, gas pipelines, etc.);
preferential right to use the land plot.

Great news, although it seems surreal in a country where people are busy raising money for drones and other assistance to the army. I wonder if government funds were raised by, for example, Churchill during the war to build resorts?

Given the above, it is not surprising that fewer and fewer Ukrainians want to participate in the defense of this whole fucking circus.

War changes the lexicon and new expressions appear in the language, which in turn are sometimes used with great sarcasm.

For example, at the beginning of the war, the authorities provided statistics in the form of the total number of missiles and drones launched by russia and the number of them shot down. Then, for drones that were not shot down, a special term "lost in location" began to be used. People now use this term to refer to deserters. For example, "out of 26 thousand mobilized, 20 thousand were lost in location."
