Ukrainian photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky, who works with the Associated Press, visited the production of the Ukrainian long-range cruise missile "Flamingo", capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 3 thousand kilometers. He reported this on Facebook. According to the journalist, the missiles are manufactured by one of the leading defense companies of Ukraine - Fire Point. Production has allegedly already been launched into the serial phase. According to experts, in terms of appearance and technical characteristics, the Flamingo is very similar to the FP-5 from Milanion Group (UAE, IDEX-2025), which suggests that it may be the same or a very similar missile.
https://regionews.ua/ukr/news/ukraine/1755494050-ukrayinski-raketi-flamingo-na-3000-km-uzhe-u-virobnitstvi-z-yavilosya-foto

I have not heard anything about this journalist or the company and can neither confirm nor deny this information.

The air raid alert at night caused alarm, but it was quiet in Kyiv. Then it turned out that the strikes had hit Kharkiv and Sumy, where residential buildings were destroyed and people were killed. https://armyinform.com.ua/2025/08/18/u-harkovi-zbilshylas-kilkist-zagyblyh-naslidky-rankovogo-udaru/

You can only find out about the fact that large oil depots were hit twice by chance, for example, from a notice from a law firm that is going to file a lawsuit for compensation for the damage caused to the owner.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be joined by key European leaders when he meets with Donald Trump today. Trump has previewed the message he’ll deliver: Zelensky must agree to some of russia’s conditions — including that Ukraine cede Crimea and agree never to join NATO — for the war to end.

A delegation of European leaders, including France’s Emmanual Macron, Germany’s Friedrich Merz, Britian’s Kier Starmer and the European Commission’s Ursula von der Leyen, will join Zelensky in Washington, DC, in a coordinated effort to support Kyiv and shape the future of Western support for Ukraine.

In yesterday’s meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” — Ukraine’s main European allies — leaders discussed the need to “stop the killing” in Ukraine, maintain pressure on russia through sanctions, and uphold the principle that Ukraine must make decisions on its own territory.

European leaders will be pushing for US President Donald Trump to join them in taking a hard line with russian President Vladimir putin on these issues.
https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-ukraine-zelensky-russia-putin-08-18-25?t=1755512076041

While Europe continues to show weakness, russia continues to press on the front. There is no doubt that in the event of a freeze in hostilities on the front line, it will try to use every day to advance westward.

I hope that the Flamingo cruise missile is real and will be deployed soon. What rate they could be produced is another issue.

I wish I could say I was hopeful about the meeting of the Europeans and Zelensky with Trump. Clearly Trump has taken Russia’s side after his obsequious performance at the Alaska meeting. He tweeted what he thinks Zelensky should do to achieve peace - in summary, capitulate. So I doubt he will be moved to change his mind by the Europeans, who don’t seem to fascinate him as much as Putin does. But strange things can happen, perhaps he will find bromance with Starmer…

It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump will soon throttle US aid to Ukraine even more, and squeeze the Europeans to stop supplying arms to them.  The ostensible reason will be that he is acting to end the war and save lives.

The cessation of the war did not lead to the surrender of South Korea. What do you mean by capitulation in this case?

I didn’t mean surrender. I meant agree to Putin’s demands to cede all occupied lands to Russia, never join NATO, have a very small army, etc. as demanded by Putin.

In the case of putin and russia, who have never fulfilled agreements, it doesn't matter what agreements you sign if you are not going to fulfill them either. The terms of the Versailles Treaty for Germany were even worse, but this did not stop it from developing and arming. In international relations, it is not the agreements that matter, but the force to enforce them. Relying on allies, one should not forget that they are driven by their own interests, and not by concern for you.

US President Donald Trump, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, and seven European leaders sounded optimistic after their meeting on Monday at the White House, in which they worked toward ending russia’s war in Ukraine. Donald Trump said he was arranging a meeting between his Ukrainian and russian counterparts after the summit. He discussed the plan with russian President Vladimir putin in a call during his negotiations with the leaders.

Leaders at the summit discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, but not redrawing territory, though Volodymyr Zelensky said he had a discussion with Trump over a map of russian-captured territories in his country. Trump did not rule out sending US troops into Ukraine to help maintain a potential peace deal.

European leaders, including Zelensky, see a ceasefire as a necessary condition for negotiations to end the war, while Trump is more focused on securing a peace deal — a position the Kremlin has echoed. https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/trump-ukraine-russia-zelensky-putin-08-19-25

The Kremlin is concerned about US President Donald Trump's increasingly serious stance on offering Ukraine post-war defense commitments. The biggest breakthrough of the White House meeting was the American leader's statement that the US would join Ukraine's security guarantees, while previously Washington had assigned this role only to European countries, Politico reports. This gave Zelensky, arriving in the East Room of the White House to join the European leaders waiting for him, reason to call his face-to-face meeting with Trump "the best" to date. https://www.politico.eu/article/the-transatlantic-alliance-holds-as-trump-warms-to-security-guarantees-for-kyiv/

US and European officials started work on bolstering Ukraine’s military, part of a package of security guarantees that will open a path to a landmark meeting between presidents Vladimir putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.

The guarantees, which will be fleshed out by military and intelligence officials, are aimed at allowing Ukraine to boost troop numbers without limitations, according to people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.

The aim is to avoid russia demanding restrictions on the size of Kyiv’s military as part of a future agreement to end the war, wrote Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-19/us-and-europe-to-work-immediately-on-ukraine-security-guarantees?srnd=homepage-europe

The White House is considering holding a trilateral meeting involving the United States, Ukraine, and russia in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, Politico reports, citing sources in the administration of US President Donald Trump. A final decision has not yet been made, but Budapest is currently considered the main option. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/19/exclusive-white-house-eyes-budapest-for-peace-talks-with-zelenskyy-and-putin-00514596?3

After the White House agreed to prepare for a bilateral meeting between Vladimir putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, the Kremlin has lowered expectations. It is clear that the russian ruler is not ready for negotiations with the Ukrainian leader - neither now nor in the future, writes CNN. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/08/20/world/why-putin-no-meet-zelensky-analysis-latam-intl

Of course, this makes no sense for putin - he does not recognize Zelensky's legitimacy, he is not at war with Ukraine, but with the West and is already directly meeting with Trump, and in the end, right now he has the advantage on the battlefield.

russia and Ukraine have continued to trade strikes as war talks gain momentum. On the night of August 19, 2025, the russian occupiers carried out a massive attack on the energy infrastructure of the Poltava region, using cruise missiles and attack drones. As a result of the strikes, large-scale fires broke out in the region. One of the production facilities of the gas transportation system of Ukraine was also damaged. https://weukraine.tv/novyny/voroh-atakuvav-enerhetichnu-infrastrukturu-poltavshchini-poshkodzheno-hazotransportnu-sistemu-minenerho/

Previously, oil storage facilities in the Odesa region were damaged, which could lead to a fuel shortage. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/rf-povtorno-vdarila-naftobazi-socar-bilya-1755511641.html

Ukrainians who fled war are losing their legal status to stay in the U.S., The Wall Street Journal reports. An estimated 120,000 Ukrainians who have fled to the United States in the past two years will begin to lose their humanitarian protections. They came to the country under the United for Ukraine (U4U) program, a temporary legal program created by the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden. The Ukrainians who arrived were granted a two-year renewable status, known as humanitarian parole, on the condition that they find a private American sponsor to accept them into the country. After taking office, Trump closed the U4U program and stopped issuing extensions to people whose work permits were expiring. https://www.wsj.com/us-news/ukrainians-who-fled-war-are-losing-their-legal-status-to-stay-in-the-u-s-507413af?mod=hp_lead_pos9

Eastern Ukraine is suffering from missile and drone attacks, and money is being distributed in Kyiv. Today, the parliament made changes to the state budget for 2025 and, in particular, deprived Kyiv of UAH 8 billion in revenues in favor of the state railway carrier Ukrzaliznytsia.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that in this way they are suppressing local self-government and taking away vital funds that were earmarked in the capital’s budget, in particular, for payments to teachers and doctors; for repairs to schools, kindergartens and hospitals; for ensuring the lowest fares in the country for public transport. And also for supporting the Armed Forces, rehabilitation of servicemen, payments to veterans and their family members. https://bigkyiv.com.ua/zi-stolychnogo-byudzhetu-vyluchat-8-milyardiv-gryven-klychko-nazvav-cze-tyskom-na-kyyiv/

The entire budget of Kyiv in 2025 is approximately UAH 90 billion.

By the end of 2025, 2,000 security officers are to be employed in Ukrainian schools. By 2026, the number is planned to increase to 3,000, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said at the presentation of the new government’s program on August 18. https://news.novyny.live/u-shkolakh-zbilshat-kilkist-ofitseriv-bezpeki-detali-vid-mvs-275527.html

Since I had not heard anything about violence in schools even long before the introduction of this security measures, I was reminded of an old joke about a boy who guarded a swimming pool from crocodiles. To the remark that there were never crocodiles in the pool, he proudly replied that this was an obvious result of his efforts.

And let’s remember that police officers are exempt from military service. But not everyone is so lucky.

In Kyiv, a mobilized person tried to cut himself in a mobilization center and was hospitalized. https://enovosty.com/uk/news-ukr/news_kiev-ukr/full/u-kiyevi-mobilizovanij-namagavsya-porizati-sebe-v-tck-jogo-gospitalizuvali

In Volyn, women started throwing stones when the military detained a man with a disability, at which point the mobilization center employees allegedly started shooting and a bullet hit one of the women in the cheek, one of the local residents told journalists from the Avers television company. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/na-volini-zakidali-kaminnyam-pratsivnikiv-ttsk-viyskoviy-vidkriv-vogon-i-potsiliv-odniy-iz-zhinok-v-shchoku

Of course, all of this is completely wrong, but I don't understand why all of this is happening not in authoritarian russia, but in democratic Ukraine. I wonder if we will see raids and breaking into homes at night, as was the case during Stalin's repressions in the 1930s.

It's hard to imagine the anxiety of men in Ukraine and the impact it has on their psyche. I've heard the analogy that anyone can imagine that they've just robbed a bank with murder and are wanted, and the police are looking for them. How would you feel in that situation?

At night russia has launched 574 drones and 40 missiles on Ukraine in one of the heaviest bombardments in weeks, Ukrainian officials say. One person was killed in a drone and missile strike on the western city of Lviv, while 15 others were reported wounded in an attack on the south-western Transcarpathia region. I heard air defenses and explosions, but it seems Kyiv was not the main target of the attack. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62wj8yje2eo
https://uatv.ua/uk/take-vrazhennya-shho-tse-neskinchenno-meshkantsi-lvova-rozpovily-pro-naslidky-rosijskoyi-ataky-video/

In Transcarpathia, in Mukachevo, russian invaders struck the production facilities of an American company specializing in electronics. https://rubryka.com/2025/08/21/udar-rf-po-mukachevu-dsns-vdalosya-lokalizuvaty-masshtabnu-pozhezhu-kilkist-postrazhdalyh-zrosla-do-19/

A number of trains were delayed due to the massive shelling. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/339050-iz-za-massirovannogo-obstrela-ukrainy-zaderzhivaetsya-ryad-poezdov

I think the attacks will only intensify in the coming days, since August 24 is Independence Day.

People say that as a result of this strike, the places where the recently developed Flamingo missiles are produced, which journalists visited, were hit. I can neither confirm nor deny this, but the fact that populism and vanity always prevail over common sense in the government is undeniable. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c9qydy9y9p1o?xtor=AL-73-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Bukr%5D-%5Bheadline%5D-%5Bukrainian%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D

Ukraine's strikes on oil refineries have disabled some of the capacity in russia. The market has faced an acute shortage of gasoline. This is reported by the Financial Times. https://www.ft.com/content/1a22515d-f0e2-4f11-8e1f-6d7b9d30ef13

Wholesale prices for gasoline in russia have reached record levels. A ton of A-95 gasoline on the exchange on August 20 cost 55% more than at the beginning of the year, and 8% more than at the beginning of August. The market is experiencing fuel shortages in a number of regions due to strikes by Ukrainian drones on oil refineries.

Since the beginning of July, Ukraine has hit at least four large refineries in russia. According to experts, the current campaign is different from previous ones - strikes are aimed at enterprises in a key region, which could disable them for a long time or "even forever."

Trump steps back from russia and Ukraine peace talks for now, sources say. Donald Trump intends to leave russia and Ukraine to organize a meeting between their leaders without directly playing a role for now, according to administration officials familiar with the situation, taking a step back from the negotiations to end russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The next stage in Trump’s eyes to end the war in Ukraine remains a bilateral meeting between Vladimir putin, the russian president, and Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, the officials said. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/aug/21/trump-ukraine-russia-peace-talks

Efforts to establish security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a US-led push to end russia’s war are running into difficulties almost immediately. US, Ukrainian and European officials have started hashing out proposals for a post-war plan to protect Ukraine, after White House officials said russian President Vladimir putin was open to “Article 5-style” security guarantees for Kyiv, a reference to NATO’s collective defense commitment.

The Kremlin hasn’t confirmed publicly that putin made such a commitment at his summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska last week. russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that russia should have a say in security arrangements for Ukraine, which could also involve China. Hours later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out Beijing as a potential guarantor of peace. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-21/doubts-grow-on-ukraine-security-package-as-russia-demands-a-role?embedded-checkout=true

The United States does not plan to take full responsibility for resolving russia's war against Ukraine, but expects an active role from European countries, US Vice President J.D. Vance said. Vance said on Fox News that the US president also expects Europe to play a leading role in this issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0yJFK_KVNc

US special envoy Steve Witkoff delivered a russian medal to the grieving family of an American who was killed fighting for russia in 2024, a senior administration official told CNN.

Earlier this month, when russian president Vladimir putin gave the medal – the Order of Courage – to Witkoff, some observers saw it as something of a diplomatic dig, given that the American who was killed, Michael Gloss, 21, was the son of a senior CIA official. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/08/20/politics/witkoff-delivered-medal-from-putin-family-american-killed

“White House officials said russian President Vladimir putin was open to “Article 5-style” security guarantees for Kyiv, a reference to NATO’s collective defense commitment.”

I read the transcript of the Steve Witkoff interview on CNN “State of the Union” in which he discusses this. https://transcripts.cnn.com/show/sotu/date/2025-08-17/segment/01

His statements are vague and what they really mean isn’t clear. Unfortunately the interviewer didn’t press him. Putin will not agree to Ukraine protection under NATO article 5, so I fail to see why he would he agree to something similar. It seems to be just another negotiation tactic that will be disavowed later.

Maybe they want to become a member of NATO and destroy it from within like they already did with the UN? I'm not surprised by anything anymore...

Hmmm, yes, like an article 5 arrangement but with Russia as one of the parties supposedly guaranteeing the defense of Ukraine. With veto power, of course.

The heat is over and the rains have started. With them comes depression. It's hard to hold on in the face of uncertainty and the constant deterioration of the situation. I can't imagine how the people in Gaza are coping...

This morning, during the second airstrike in Kyiv, at least one drone was shot down, which fell onto the road without causing damage. https://www.slovoidilo.ua/2025/08/23/novyna/suspilstvo/odnomu-rajoniv-kyyeva-dorohu-vpav-vorozhyj-dron

As a result of the night attack by russian drones, hits were recorded in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy regions. https://unn.ua/news/nichna-ataka-rf-dronamy-shcho-vidomo-pro-naslidky

On the night of August 23, 2025, during an approach for landing after completing a combat mission, the pilot of a MiG-29 fighter, Major Serhiy Bondar, born in 1979, died. https://mind.ua/news/20293638-na-mikolayivshchini-zaginuv-ukrayinskij-pilot-mig-29-pislya-vikonannya-bojovogo-zavdannya

Beijing is considering the possibility of its military participating in a peacekeeping force for Ukraine. According to WELT, citing EU diplomats, China is ready for this only on condition that the mission has a UN mandate.

In Brussels, such a proposal has caused a controversial reaction. Some diplomats believe that the involvement of China and other countries of the Global South could increase the legitimacy of the idea of a peacekeeping mission. Others express concerns that Beijing could use its presence in Ukraine for espionage and take an openly pro-russian position.

To understand the overall situation in Ukraine, you have to spend a lot of time searching for information in various sources and putting it together into a puzzle.

The Ukrainian government is preparing for one of the most challenging budget cycles in recent years: in 2026, the country will need from $8 billion to $19 billion in additional funding, depending on the development of the security situation. This gap in forecasts indicates deep uncertainty caused by the long war, high defense spending and instability of foreign aid.

According to Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, the budget for next year is being formed with the assumption that hostilities will continue. This means that spending on the army, social support and critical infrastructure will remain at record levels. Despite the government’s efforts to optimize spending, the deficit remains significant - about $10 billion has not yet been confirmed as a source of coverage.

The key donors remain the G7 countries, the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
https://fbc.biz.ua/news/ekonomika-uk/ukrayina-gotuye-byudzhet-2026-defitsit-42-mlrd-poshuk-finansuvannya-trivaye-na-tli-vijni/

In the first six months of 2025, the European Union transferred 10.1 billion euros to Ukraine, obtained from the proceeds of the frozen assets of the Central Bank of russia, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported on Saturday, August 23, citing data from the European Commission.
https://www.dw.com/uk/es-u-2025-vze-peredav-ukraini-ponad-10-mlrd-evro-z-dohodiv-vid-zamorozenih-aktiviv-rf/a-73740119?maca=ukr-rss-ukrnet-ukr-all-3816-xml

Inside the country, the main method of state action remains coercion. In my dreams, Ukraine should develop like South Korea, but in reality it is becoming more and more like North Korea. The war has become a very convenient excuse for the authorities to introduce dictatorship and totalitarianism. This may indeed serve the development of the country, but is this the direction that Ukrainians sought for their country, fighting for their freedom for centuries? Is Ukraine's freedom worth the price of Ukrainians' lack of freedom?

The prominent Soviet writer of Ukrainian origin, Vasily Grossman, wrote about the historical development of russia through lack of freedom, contrasting it with Western development based on freedom: The evolution of the West was fertilized by the growth of freedom; russia’s evolution was fertilized by the growth of slavery. This is the abyss that divides russia and the West. The history of humanity is the history of human freedom. The growth of human potentiality is expressed, above all, in the growth of freedom. Freedom is not, as Engels claimed, “the recognition of necessity.”
Freedom is the direct opposite of necessity; freedom is necessity overcome. Progress, in essence, is the progress of human freedom. What is life itself, if not freedom? The evolution of life is the evolution of freedom. russia has always evolved in a peculiar way; what has evolved has been the degree of non-freedom. Year by year serfdom grew harsher and the peasants’ right to their land more tenuous. Meanwhile, russian science, technology, and learning continued to advance, merging with the growth of slavery.

The most important principle of the State Stalin constructed is that it is a State without freedom. In this country, huge factories, artificial seas, canals, and hydroelectric power stations do not serve people; they serve a State without freedom. In this State a man cannot sow what he wants to sow. A man is not the master of the field on which he works; he is not the owner of the apple trees he grows or of the milk he produces. Whatever the earth bears, it bears according to the instructions of the State without freedom. In this State not only are the national minorities deprived of their freedom but so is the russian nation itself. Where there is no individual freedom, there can be no national freedom—since national freedom is, above all, the freedom of the individual human being. In this State there is no such thing as society. Society is founded on people’s free intimacy and free antagonism—and in a State without freedom, free intimacy and free hostility are unthinkable. (c) Everything Flows by Vasily Grossman
https://oceanofpdf.com/authors/vasily-grossman/pdf-epub-everything-flows-by-vasily-grossman-download/

Since a large part of Ukrainians became de facto slaves, the attitude towards them both in their own country and abroad will only worsen.

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to conduct criminal prosecution and impose penalties in absentia on conscripts and reservists who are abroad beyond the permitted period. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/339160-zaochnye-shtrafy-do-170-tysyach-grn-byudzhet-mozhet-znachitelno-popolnitsya-za-schet-prizyvnikov-i-voennoobyazannykh-za-granitsey

But Ukrainians are not the only ones in the world. While many people have the freedom to travel, citizens in some countries face strict restrictions on leaving their homeland. In certain nations, government policies, political concerns, or strict social rules limit the freedom to travel abroad. According to the 2023 Human Rights Watch report and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), these restrictions are particularly tight in the following countries.

1. North Korea
North Korea is considered the most restrictive country in the world in terms of travel freedom. Citizens are rarely, if ever, allowed to travel abroad without government approval. Strict controls over movement prevent citizens from leaving or interacting with other countries.

2. Eritrea
Eritrea, located in East Africa, has also been called an open-air prison due to its severe restrictions on movement. Many Eritreans have been conscripted into indefinite military service, which further limits their freedom to leave the country.

3. Syria
Due to the ongoing civil conflict, Syrian citizens face severe restrictions on movement. Many Syrians who attempt to flee face legal and logistical barriers, and those suspected of leaving for political reasons may face repercussions if they return.

4. Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is one of the most isolated countries in Central Asia, and the government imposes strict rules on travel. Only a small number of people are granted permission to travel abroad, and many are monitored even after leaving.

5. Cuba
While Cuba has recently lifted many restrictions, its citizens still face barriers when trying to leave. Those who want to travel abroad need government approval, and many face long wait times or denials, especially if they are considered politically sensitive.
https://tribuneonlineng.com/japa-5-countries-where-citizens-arent-allowed-to-leave/

The paradox is that even from the territories occupied by russia, everyone can freely leave if they do not want to stay there, which cannot be said about Ukraine.

More than £300m given to English councils to help Ukrainian refugees into accommodation has not been spent, while thousands of them face homelessness. Freedom of information requests to 150 councils in England, shared with the Guardian, identified that £327m – about a third of the £1bn budget – was still sitting in council bank accounts more than three years after russia invaded Ukraine. Most of the funds councils have spent have been used to pay staff and partner organisations. Only £22m has been spent on temporary accommodation for Ukrainians and £15m to help them into private rented accommodation.

Many Ukrainians struggle to find accommodation in the private rented sector because of the need to provide a deposit, something councils can help with but which some Ukrainians say in practice can be slow, bureaucratic and difficult to access. Finding a UK guarantor can also be difficult and those unable to speak English struggle to negotiate with landlords.

First Lady Olena Zelenska, citing the data of the study “Index of the Future: Professional Expectations and Development of Adolescents in Ukraine”, stated that 82% of Ukrainian adolescents retain an optimistic vision of their future. The wife of the President of Ukraine said this during a speech at the annual educational conference “August”, which is held by the Ministry of Education.

Sounds optimistic, but how true is it?

Only 48 state higher education institutions accepted more than a thousand applicants, said former Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytsky.

Today is Independence Day, but I didn’t notice many people celebrating. Apparently this holiday causes more excitement abroad than in Ukraine itself, which despite everything continues to exist.
Despite expectations, there were no mass attacks with missiles and drones either at night or during the day. But there is information about the preparation of russian strategic aviation and drone stocks. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/08/22/world/russia-drone-attacks-ukraine-war-intl-vis

The Pentagon has for months been blocking Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles to strike inside russia, U.S. officials said, limiting Kyiv from employing a powerful weapon in its fight against Moscow’s invasion. This applies to ATACMS missiles, as well as the British-French Storm Shadow cruise missiles, reports the Wall Street Journal. https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/pentagon-has-quietly-blocked-ukraines-long-range-missile-strikes-on-russia-432a12e1?mod=hp_lead_pos1

But this does not apply to all other weapons that have recently caused significant damage to russia. Ukraine is focusing drone attacks on refineries, pumping stations and fuel trains in an effort to hurt the russian war machine - but also to disrupt daily life in russia. Summer sees peak demand among russia’s drivers and farmers for petrol. Ukrainian drones have struck at least ten key russian energy facilities this month alone, according to a CNN tally of attacks. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/08/23/europe/ukraine-russia-energy-attacks-intl

Ukrainian drones have attacked a Novatek gas processing plant in russia's Leningrad region, damaging a key part of one of Europe's largest gas complexes, through which Moscow exports oil and gas. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/ce3j7l58en7o

The new strike destroyed the Unecha pumping station near Bryansk and stopped the Druzhba oil pipeline. Unecha is key to transporting russian oil to the port of Ust-Luga, which accounts for a significant portion of russian oil exports and pumping oil to Slovakia and Hungary. https://charter97.org/ru/news/2025/8/24/653234/

Ukrainian attack drones hit two important facilities of the russian regime on the night of August 24. As the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported, the sea terminal of the port of Ust-Luga - russia's key logistics hub on the Baltic - and an oil refinery in Syzran, which works to support the war, were "hit." Also "hit" were logistics and combat supply facilities of the russian army in Voronezh and Belgorod regions. https://charter97.org/en/news/2025/8/24/653219/

The PR for the mysterious Flamingo missile, developed by Ukraine's Fire Point defense company, reached the pages of Politico. According to Iryna Terekh, the company's CEO and technical director,  it took less than nine months to develop it from an idea to its first successful tests on the battlefield. It is completely Ukrainian-made. https://www.politico.eu/article/flamingo-ukraine-3000km-cruise-missile-woman-vladimir-putin-donald-trump-volodymyr-zelenskyy-drone/

This sounds too good to be true, but who knows. Anyway, even if it's some other missile that was simply painted pink in Ukraine, the main thing is that it hits the enemy.

During a visit to Kyiv, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that next month Ukraine will receive weapons purchased with funds allocated by Canada at the G7 summit in June. This is $2 billion Canadian dollars.

Of this amount, $1 billion will go to strengthen the Ukrainian army through the supply of drones, ammunition and armored vehicles, which will arrive in September. The rest of the funds will be directed to emergency medical care, the construction of bomb shelters and protection against cyberattacks. Tens of millions of dollars have been allocated for these purposes. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/339311-kanada-postavit-ukraine-vooruzhenie-na-2-mlrd-v-sleduyuschem-mesyatse

France summoned the Italian ambassador after Italy's deputy prime minister challenged the French president for suggesting that European soldiers be deployed in Ukraine in a post-war settlement, a French diplomatic source said on Saturday. Asked earlier this week to comment on French President Emmanuel Macron's appeals to deploy European soldiers in Ukraine after any settlement with russia, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini used a Milanese dialect phrase loosely translatable as "get lost". "You go there if you want. Put your helmet on, your jacket, your rifle and you go to Ukraine," he told reporters, referring to Macron. https://www.reuters.com/world/france-summons-italian-ambassador-over-challenge-macron-ukraine-2025-08-23/

A farmer who failed to ensure the mobilization process for his workers was fined. https://novyny.live/tck-uk/na-khmelnichchini-sudili-fermera-bo-iogo-pratsivniki-ne-pishli-v-ttsk-276282.html Due to the threat of conscription, Ukrainians often quit their jobs and continue to work unofficially if possible, or not at all.

The parliament registered a resolution that provides for changes in the administrative and territorial structure of Donetsk and Luhansk regions by joining their unoccupied parts to neighboring regions. https://www.unian.ua/politics/adminkordoni-doneckoji-oblasti-u-radi-proponuyut-zminiti-kordoni-donbasu-13105119.html
https://itd.rada.gov.ua/billInfo/Bills/Card/57131

Perhaps in this strange way, putin's demand to transfer the specified regions to russia in full will be satisfied.

Today is still warm, but you can already feel the mood and weather of autumn. Clouds and wind, colorful leaves on the trees. The propagation opens and today I made a couple of wonderful QSO with Northern Ireland and Scotland on 21MHz.

Fortunately, the short air alarms did not end with a strike on Kyiv. Perhaps thanks to the fact that Keith Kellogg visited Kyiv. Perhaps it is cheaper to offer him to live in Kyiv permanently than to spend money on Patriot anti-missile complexes. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/339390-kit-kellog-nazval-peregovornyy-protsess-po-garantiyam-bezopasnosti-dlya-ukrainy-slozhnym

In fact, his visit reveals the intensity of the negotiations and gives hope that the war will soon end.

The Trump administration limiting use of ATACMS inside Russia is a terrible decision, though apparently for different reasons than the Biden administration. The latter was worried about nuclear war, which was a reasonable precaution in the early days. But they finally relented (too late IMO) after it became obvious that Putin was bluffing.

Trump continues to try enticements to sway Putin as if he is a real estate business tycoon negotiating for a choice building site. But this is a complete misunderstanding of the man, his reasons for invading, and his reasons for continuing no matter the staggering losses of Russian men.

Well, it serves to underscore your point, Wlad, that Ukraine must rely much more on itself such as the effective drone strikes and the long range missiles being developed.
