The consequences of provocations can really be different. It seems to me that their main goal, after all, is to feel the limit where NATO will really begin to respond. And so far, EU leaders at a meeting in Copenhagen on Wednesday, October 1, were unable to make progress on the issue of providing Ukraine with a loan worth 140 billion euros from frozen russian assets, as Belgium refused to lift its objection, and France and Luxembourg expressed concerns about the legal consequences, the FT reports. https://www.ft.com/content/214dc782-8900-4531-87ac-3f01e7221849

Meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said a European anti-drone system should be built as part of a larger plan to strengthen security and surveillance at the borders, known as “Guardian of the Eastern Flank.” https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c9dx3g43vqgo

It seems that Europe has realized the need to restore its military potential. Especially since the russian occupation army has modernized its Iskander-M ballistic missiles, which has created serious difficulties for Ukraine. Patriot can no longer effectively shoot down russian missiles. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/rosiya-zmogla-modifikuvati-raketi-shchob-obkhoditi-ukrainsku-ppo-financial-times

In Ukraine, mobilization remains a complex issue. On the one hand, the authorities claim to be satisfied with it and are calling up 30,000 men per month. https://24tv.ua/mobilizatsiya-ukrayini-skilki-lyudey-mobilizuyut-shhomisyatsya_n2925655 Since demobilization has not occurred and is not expected even if the war ends, this can be considered a level of personnel losses.

The military considers it ineffective due to the low level of training and motivation, which leads to desertion and losses. This issue could be solved by monetary motivation and fixed terms of service, but the authorities are not considering it. https://gazeta.ua/articles/life/_komandir-rozvidki-pro-masshtab-problemi-szc-ta-neobhidni-zmini-v-armiyi/1231767

Some naive people even think that it is necessary to create a new army in parallel. They propose to take, for example, the popular commander and his corps and start expanding.
But they forget that one of the greatest victories of the regime at the beginning of the war can be considered the destruction of powerful nationalist independent units like the Right Sector or Azov and the dissolution of all the others in what turned into a small Soviet army. Although it was they who showed the most impressive results in battle.

Therefore, for now, we continue to see videos of police officers and representatives of mobilization centers catching, beating, and forcibly taking people away on the streets for forced mobilization https://life.kyiv.ua/news/skandal-u-ki%D1%94vi-merezheyu-shiritsya-video-de-policeyskiy-z-nogi-b%CA%BC%D1%94-cholovika-ta , and read news stories of them also being beaten and stabbed in response. https://ua.news/ua/ukraine/u-krivomu-rozi-cholovik-poraniv-nozhem-dvokh-viiskovikh-ttsk-odin-u-vazhkomu-stani

Meanwhile, the police (which cannot be mobilized) recruited an additional 1,700 officers to schools. https://unn.ua/news/ponad-1700-ofitseriv-sluzhby-osvitnoi-bezpeky-vzhe-pratsiuiut-u-shkolakh-mvs

The enemy attacks Ukraine every day with missiles and hundreds of drones, mainly targeting the energy sector. After the shelling of Chernihiv region at the beginning of the week, on the night of Thursday to Friday, Poltava region came under a powerful air strike. Energy and gas production are under attack. https://mind.ua/news/20295349-vorog-usyu-nich-i-ranok-atakuvav-ukrayinu-raketami-j-dronami

https://babel.ua/news/121918-rosiya-zdiysnila-naymasovanishu-ataku-na-gazovidobuvnu-infrastrukturu-ukrajini-z-pochatku-viyni
Part of Donetsk region also has been left without electricity due to enemy shelling. In particular, all of Druzhkivka and Kostyantynivka, as well as some areas of Kramatorsk, were left without electricity. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/kramatorsk-slov-yansk-i-druzhkivka-chastkovo-1759511359.html

The russian army has occupied three more villages in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the DeepState project reports. This is the next region where russian troops are operating. https://www.unian.ua/war/rosiyani-okupuvali-odrazu-tri-novi-naseleni-punkti-deepstate-13149948.html?utm_source=ukrnet_news

International partners finance the salaries of officials, but have not yet agreed to finance the salaries of the military, which is why the authorities want to limit the salaries of officials to 80 thousand UAH (almost 2 thousand dollars) in order to ensure an increase in the salaries of the military. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/342709-mezhdunarodnye-partnery-finansiruyut-zarplaty-chinovnikov-no-poka-ne-soglasilis-finansirovat-zarplaty-voennykh-mozhet-li-sokraschenie-okladov-dolzhnostnykh-lits-do-80-tysyach-obespechit-uvelichenie-zarplat-voennykh

In June, the European Union adopted a framework decision to reduce electricity prices to support industry. The plan is to reduce the price to 50 Euros per MWh. At the same time, the cost of electricity in Ukraine is constantly growing and currently stands at about $180 per MWh. In this regard, investing in Ukraine for the development of production looks even more inexpedient. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1109195-vtrychi-deshevshe-nizh-v-ukrayini-yes-znyzyt-tsinu-na-elektryku-do-50-yevro-shhob-pidtrymaty-svoyu

I heard that Rutte had a shouting match with Estonia's leader about that state calling for Article 4 consultations too often - fearing that Article 4 will lose its shock value. I would say that has already happened. If it had any shock value to begin with, there wouldn't be a Russian incursion into Estonian airspace every day or two! Apparently Rutte wants to do anything other than actually SHOOT THE RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT DOWN when it enters NATO. I jokingly suggest Rutte craft an Article 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and so on so that he can see a dozen more incursions before actually taking action.

Article 4 has become like Putin's nuclear threats - meaningless.

There is much truth in your joke.

Each member nation, and NATO as a whole, should take a lesson from Turkey and declare that incursions of their airspace, manned or unmanned, will be met with deadly force on a case by case basis at the discretion of each nation acting independently or in concert with others.

NATO and each member nation should be racing to support Ukrainian defense industries to ramp up production of the systems already proven in use there to detect and disrupt or intercept drones, and also make them in Europe under license.

My late father-in-law fought Nazis with the US 3rd Army and also served in Korea. He told a story about the the Turks in the UN encampment he was assigned to in Korea which I find relevant to this discussion.

There were groups of Korean boys who would sneak into the camps and steal anything they could use or sell, typically personal property of soldiers like shaving kit, clothing, items sent from home, etc. The US, UK, and Australians would occasionally catch some of the boys and rough them up but they would soon be back.

The Turks tried that for a time but soon switched to a much more effective method. One morning the severed heads of two of the boys were on pikes at the entrance to their camp, thus ending the thievery there.

There are different opinions in Ukraine about the true effectiveness of anti-drone defense.

With the onset of cold weather, russia has expectedly intensified attacks on Ukraine's energy sector, but they are also destroying logistics and production facilities.
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjvlgzmp4wo

russia realizes that time is against them. Against this background, they will intensify their shelling of Ukraine and talk about how "omnipotent" they are, said Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine's foreign minister from 2014 to 2019. https://24tv.ua/masovana-ataka-po-ukrayini-klimkin-pripustiv-shho-obstrili-budut_n2927587

The supply of long-range systems, in particular Tomahawks, to Ukraine will lead to the destruction of the positive trends that have emerged in relations between russia and the United States, putin said. https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2025/10/05/8001296/

On the night of today, October 5, russia massively attacked Zaporizhia and its suburbs with strike drones and guided aerial bombs (GABs). Hits were recorded at eight locations in the region. There is significant damage to residential infrastructure. https://uatv.ua/uk/shahedy-ta-kaby-letily-z-novyh-napryamkiv-u-zaporizhzhi-likviduyut-naslidky-rosijskyh-udariv-video/

In many regions of Ukraine, power equipment has already been damaged and power outages are ongoing.
https://24tv.ua/rosiyani-zavdali-kombinovanih-udariv-po-energetitsi-ye-poshkodzhennya_n2927614

But the main blow fell on the western part of the country. https://komersant.ua/rosiia-provela-kombinovanu-ataku-na-mista-ukrainy-zafiksovani-ruynuvannia-ie-zahybli-ta-postrazhdali/

In Lviv, a fire broke out in the Sparrow industrial park as a result of night shelling.
https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1109316-u-lvovi-palaye-industrialnyj-park-sparrow-tam-buly-sklady-cropp-house-sinsay-reserved-ta-mohito
And this is just a week after the local authorities made a loud presentation about its size and capabilities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4sSmPWgiSo

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted that after the Zaporizhzhia NPP was disconnected from external power sources due to shelling, a serious situation remains at the station in terms of nuclear safety. https://ua.news/ua/ukraine/na-zaes-zberigaietsia-seriozna-situatsiia-dlia-iadernoyi-bezpeki-glava-magate

Instead, Ukrainian military personnel in the area of Lake Onega attacked and damaged the russian small missile ship "Buyan-M" at night, which is a carrier of the "Onyx" and "Caliber" missiles. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/nosiy-oniksiv-ta-kalibriv-shcho-vidomo-raketniy-1759569127.html

Yesterday, among others, the key railway station in Shostka was hit, causing problems with transportation to the east, and the operator was forced to change routes. https://www.dsnews.ua/ukr/politics/udar-po-vokzalu-v-shostci-v-odnomu-z-vagoniv-potyaga-ryatuvalniki-znayshli-zagiblu-lyudinu-04102025-529698

Kharkiv is under constant attacks. https://harkiv.novyny.live/rf-masovano-atakuvala-kharkivshchinu-chastina-abonentiv-bez-svitla-285333.html

And again a blow to the energy sector in Chernihiv. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/rf-znovu-vdarila-energetitsi-chernigivshchini-1759557228.html

Such short phrases do not convey the full scale of the destruction and the number of victims. And this is only October 5...

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the russians have been preparing for new massive strikes for at least a month. The main target is likely to be Ukrainian energy. According to analysts, a new large-scale attack could take place in the coming days. As the ISW notes, the enemy has been accumulating missiles throughout September, so a wave of massive strikes could occur in the near future. So this is just the beginning, although hundreds of drones are already flying into Ukraine every day. https://today.ua/482832-vorog-gotuyetsya-vzhe-misyac-rf-mozhe-zavdati-masshtabnogo-udaru-najblizhchimi-dnyami/

On Saturday, October 4, during mass protests against the rigging of local elections in Georgia, demonstrators stormed the presidential palace in Tbilisi. People took to the streets of the capital, accusing the authorities of rigging the local elections. Demonstrators call the vote a "farce" and even a "Russian special operation." A group of men broke through the fence around the presidential palace and attacked several members of the guard who were in the courtyard. Soon, special forces and hundreds of patrol police appeared from the residence building. They used pepper spray against the demonstrators, and arrests are taking place. https://society.comments.ua/ua/news/developments/u-gruzii-protestuvalniki-pishli-na-shturm-prezidentskogo-palacu-scho-vidbuvaetsya-782864.html

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the ruling party had fulfilled its forecast and promise to win in all municipalities, and the "attempted overthrow" had failed. He announced harsh punishments for the participants in the action, stating that Georgia would not be a place for a "revolution organized by foreign intelligence services." After that, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Alexander Darakhvelidze announced the detention of the organizers of the protest on October 4 - Paata Burchuladze, Murtaz Zodelav, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze and Lasha Beridze. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/clyxlgdwqwjo

Georgia is perhaps the only post-Soviet country besides Ukraine that time to time is trying to break free from russian control through protests against the pro-russian government, which also led to an armed attack and occupation by russia of parts of its territory.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the current US position on ending the war against russia is based on the desire to implement the "cheapest scenario".

According to him, in American political logic, Ukraine's victory can be considered a dangerous precedent. He said this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. Explaining Washington's vision, Kuleba emphasized that in the world of President Donald Trump and within the realist school of American foreign policy, Kyiv's success in the war with Moscow looks like a challenge to the world order, in which "the weaker must obey the stronger".

He explained that for the US, Ukraine's victory could be a dangerous signal to other countries. If Kyiv can defend its independence, this could inspire other states to resist in cases of pressure from Washington. "The wrong signal is being sent that it is not necessary to submit to the will of the strong. It turns out that you can resist and achieve your goals. And tomorrow America will come to the hypothetical Latin American country of Panama to take away the canal. Panama will say: "And we will be like Ukraine, we will all rise to war for our independence," the former minister added.

https://aspi.com.ua/news/politika/kuleba-poyasniv-chomu-ssha-obrali-naydeshevshiy-scenariy-zavershennya-viyni-v-ukraini#gsc.tab=0sc.tab=0

Andrej Babis has won the Czech election, and while his ANO party does not have enough votes to form a majority, his political course could shift towards less support for Ukraine, similar to Hungary and Slovakia, raising concerns about EU unity. It also threatens the position of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic and the supply of ammunition under the Czech initiative.

https://24tv.ua/geopolitics/vibori-chehiyi-shho-oznachaye-povernennya-babisha-dlya-ukrayini_n2927693

Today, another friend of mine who is under 50 asked me to recommend a cardiologist. I congratulated him on joining the club. Doctors also pay attention to the fact that in Ukraine there is a trend towards a significant rejuvenation of heart diseases, but due to the full-scale war, not all patients have access to high-quality and timely medical care. Today we often talk about stress, anxiety and depressive disorders, but we forget about another factor - environmental pollution. All the fires and toxic substances from missiles and drones worsen the already poor ecology. https://life.nv.ua/ukr/health/viyna-v-ukrajini-kardiolog-pro-bum-infarktiv-do-20-rokiv-yak-zniziti-tisk-i-shcho-vplivaye-na-situaciyu-50549529.html

But a potential patient in Ukraine still needs to be able to get to a doctor and not be mobilized on the way. I came across the news that Apple and Google blocked downloads of phone apps that flag sightings of U.S. immigration agents, just hours after the Trump administration demanded that one particularly popular iPhone app be taken down. “These apps are a lifeline for communities living in uncertainty and fear of when ICE might show up to tear their families apart,” Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center, said in a statement. https://apnews.com/article/apple-ice-iphone-app-immigration-fb6a404d3e977516d66d470585071bcc

If we do not take into account the moral, legal or technological component, the situation is very simple - certain people do not want to meet with representatives of the state and use all available means. In Ukraine, special "weather" channels in messengers are used for a similar purpose, where people share information about places with "bad weather" that may result in mobilization. And what means are there in your country to avoid the police or representatives of other agencies?

russian drone and missile attacks continue daily, but there is not much information about the consequences. It seems that the authorities have something to hide from the people. But the warnings of energy companies about possible power outages and calls to save electricity and reduce consumption in the evening speak for themselves. But in conditions of cold weather and the absence of central heating, many people turn on electric heaters. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/342914-v-ukrenergo-prizyvayut-ne-vklyuchat-moschnye-pribory-vecherom-kakaya-prichina
https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1109447-v-ukrenergo-rozpovily-v-yakyh-oblastyah-najskladnisha-sytuatsiya-z-energetykoyu

The situation with gas is also not easy. Some say that the russians have struck Ukrainian gas production facilities in northeastern Ukraine. Some have noticed that the color of the gas flame has changed from blue to yellow and the heat transfer has decreased. Thus, this winter Ukraine may become even more dependent on energy supplies from Europe. Of course, provided that there is enough gas and electricity to supply Ukraine, someone will pay for it and the pipelines and power grids will not be damaged.

But already now, the mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, has stated that the coming winter will be the most difficult for the city during the war years due to the destruction of two transformer substations.https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/342921-rf-unichtozhila-dve-podstantsii-v-kharkove-gryaduschaya-zima-budet-samoy-tyazheloy-terekhov

The russians also continue to attack factories, elevators, and warehouses throughout the country. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1109658-rf-atakuvala-elevator-i-energetychnyj-ob-yekt-na-chernigivshhyni-ye-znestrumlennya-ova

In Poltava, they attacked a locomotive depot, a power supply line, and traction substations. Administrative and warehouse premises, as well as a rolling stock, were also damaged. https://hromadske.ua/viyna/252657-udar-po-poltavi-poshkodzeni-zaliznychne-depo-ta-tiahovi-pidstantsiyi-chastyna-zyteliv-bez-svitla

Official information has emerged that on the evening of October 5, a russian fiber-optic FPV drone first hit Kramatorsk, which is located 20 km from the front line: there were no casualties, but the explosion damaged a passenger car. https://www.radiosvoboda.org/a/fpv-optovolokno-kramatorsk/33551577.html Given the peculiarities of this type of UAV (they are not yet detected by drone detectors, they are not affected by electronic warfare), this means that the last large cities that have not yet been captured by the Russians in the Donetsk region are already under threat not only from aerial bombs, missiles and large drones. It seems that my friend's boyfriend, who serves in those places and believes that the loss of these cities is a matter of time, is right.

Unfortunately, the number of drones of all types used by russia has been increasing recently, and so has the number of hits. They are also becoming cheaper and are constantly being modernized. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c17er5n2eg8o So far, predictions of an increase in missile attacks have not come true, but this may be due to the fact that they will be attacking energy more starting in November.

Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to attack oil refining facilities and oil storage tanks in russia and Crimea. https://www.rbc.ua/rus/news/timchasovo-okupovaniy-feodosiyi-drugu-dobu-1759826410.html

The concerted Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries and other parts of russia’s fuel-distribution system began in August, and the number of strikes is rising from two or three a week to four or five. Soon they will be daily. https://www.economist.com/europe/2025/10/05/ukraines-hellfire-is-intensifying-the-kremlins-fuel-crisis

The Kirishi oil refinery, one of russia's largest, has halted a crude distillation unit, CDU-6, its most productive unit, following a drone attack and subsequent fire on October 4, with its recovery expected to take about a month. https://www.reuters.com/world/russias-kirishi-refinery-halts-largest-unit-after-drone-attack-sources-say-2025-10-06/

As Europeans mull building a "drone wall," more and more "unidentified" drones are visiting European airports and other strategic sites. They are already causing significant damage, and the damage they cause could be much greater in the future.

Until now, the origin of these drones in Europe has been described as "undetermined." European leaders have rarely ruled out the possibility that russians are involved in the drone strikes. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz took a step forward when he said that russia could be behind the drone attacks that "poured" into Germany last week. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c24rjv8gy7vo

Meanwhile former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has blamed Poland and the Baltic states for the war in Ukraine. She accuses them of blocking the EU dialogue with putin in 2021 and thus contributing to Moscow's aggression. https://www.blick.ch/ausland/brisante-aussagen-sorgen-fuer-empoerung-merkel-gibt-polen-mitschuld-an-putins-krieg-id21296629.html

As we see, too much depends on leaders, and the ongoing political crisis in France, where the fifth prime minister in recent years has resigned, threatens Macron's position. Thus, Ukraine may lose another ally in Europe. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cewn9k0w9rxo

Ukraine has begun using FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles to attack russian energy facilities, The Economist reports. https://www.economist.com/europe/2025/10/05/ukraines-hellfire-is-intensifying-the-kremlins-fuel-crisis. But so far no one has published evidence that it was these rockets. Everyone understands the secrecy measures and the need to maintain military secrecy, but this did not prevent them from making noisy presentations some time ago. Some even believe that all this hype is a cover for fraud.

Perhaps the production of such weapons as missiles is now possible only abroad. I have not heard anything about the mass production and use of Ukrainian tanks or Neptun missiles, which were widely advertised earlier.

Internal government audits examining purchases by Ukraine’s Defense Procurement Agency have found dozens of contracts awarded to companies at inflated prices over lower-priced competitors, and have found an overpayment of $129 million in Ukraine’s classified spending on weapons. As billions of dollars flow to domestic manufacturers with financial assistance from European donors, much of the spending is shrouded in wartime secrecy. That worries analysts and activists who say Ukraine has made little progress in curbing a long history of corruption in military procurement, The New York Times reports. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/world/europe/ukraine-war-weapons-defense-contracts-payments.html

The Verkhovna Rada plans to adopt a resolution that stipulates the impossibility of holding local elections during the war. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/342971-verkhovnaya-rada-primet-postanovlenie-kotoroe-predusmatrivaet-nevozmozhnost-provedeniya-mestnykh-vyborov-vo-vremya-voyny

They explain this by the need to "observe the principle of continuity of power." It seems like it's time to add such a sophisticated wording to the relevant Wikipedia article. Authoritarianism is a political system characterized by the rejection of political plurality, the use of strong central power to preserve the political status quo, and reductions in democracy, separation of powers, civil liberties, and the rule of law.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authoritarianism

After all, there is nothing to prevent local authorities from being elected in a territory where there is no active fighting. But the central government clearly wants to keep pro-government representatives in elected positions indefinitely.

In fact, people no longer have many rights that can be restricted. One story shook society, which demonstrated its attitude to the way mobilization in Ukraine is conducted. A video recorded by a surveillance camera appeared on the Internet, showing people dressed in military uniforms catching a cat on the street, taking it into a car and driving away quickly. All this was so reminiscent of grabbing people on the street that someone jokingly commented on it as a mobilization of a cat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7l9ayJmjjs The mobilization center was outraged and published a refutation that its employees did not steal the cats, and the comments demonstrate people's disrespect for them and are a consequence of the influence of russian propaganda. https://thepage.ua/ua/news/tck-sprostuvav-vikradennya-kota-na-kiyivshini-sho-vidomo-video

The cat was eventually found, it was returned to its owner. This story would be funny if it were not sad...

On October 6 in Kyiv, people in military uniforms began to drag a young man onto a bus, and people fought him off. https://enovosty.com/uk/video-uk/full/v-kiyevi-vijskovi-zatyaguvali-cholovika-v-bus-lyudi-jogo-vidbivali-reakciya-kiivskogo-tck

0910 Rains and cold have come to Ukraine. russia's main attack is probably ahead, but every day their drones and missiles destroy Ukraine's energy sector.

russian occupation forces once again attacked an energy facility in the Chernihiv and Dnipro regions. Thousands of consumers are without electricity. https://bukvy.org/rosiyany-znovu-atakuvaly-energoob-yekt-na-chernigivshhyni-yaki-naslidky/
https://uatv.ua/uk/u-dvoh-mistsyah-pozhezhi-rosijski-shahedy-masovano-atakuvaly-dnipropetrovshhynu-foto/

Train traffic has been temporarily suspended in the direction of Sumy and Chernihiv regions. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343223-dvizhenie-poezdov-v-chernigovskoy-i-sumskoy-oblastyakh-priostanovleno-iz-za-atak-rf-glava-sumskoy-ova-grigorov

The Dnipro was attacked by an aerial bomb. https://unn.ua/news/u-dnipri-prolunav-vybukh-ta-pidniavsia-stovp-dymu-okupanty-ymovirno-atakuvaly-kabom

Ukraine is fighting a war of attrition. Any hopes that might have been raised by President Trump’s red-carpet diplomacy with Vladimir putin have expired, and it is impossible to spend more than a few minutes near the front line without being confronted by Ukraine’s greatest vulnerability: lack of soldiers. However, as The Atlantic journalist Robert F. Worth writes, our country can actually still achieve its military goals on the front. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2025/10/ukraine-russia-drone-war-attrition/684419/

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes to increase the expenditure part of the 2025 budget by another $8 billion, directing these funds to defense needs. The peculiarity is that some of the money is planned to be “intercepted” from the resources planned for 2026 within the framework of the ERA Loans initiative (the European Union and the G7 countries). https://komersant.ua/kabmin-pidvyshchyv-oboronni-vydatky-de-vizmut-hroshi-iak-pererozpodilyly-biudzhet-ta-chy-ie-ryzyky/ The only question is whether Europe will provide this money.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, more than 1.3 million citizens already have the status of combatants, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine reported. The majority received the status after 2022. https://www.unian.ua/society/yaka-kilkist-ubd-v-ukrajini-uchasnikiv-boyovih-diy-vzhe-ponad-1-3-milyona-osib-13155597.html?utm_source=ukrnet_news

The parliament nevertheless adopted a law that provides for the continuity of work of local councils and mayors in wartime, which essentially means postponing new local elections until the end of martial law. https://www.obozrevatel.com/ukr/politics-news/u-radi-progolosuvali-za-bezperervnist-roboti-mistsevoi-vladi-pid-chas-vijni-scho-tse-oznachae.htm

As people joke, it remains to establish the continuity of martial law. As long as Russia exists, there must be martial law, because russia will always be a threat, so that the president does not continue it every quarter.

That's what we've been waiting for!

Overnight russian missile and drone strikes have caused power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and eight other regions. In total, more than 450 drones and 30 missiles were launched. Two CHPs, two TPPs and four HPPs in different cities were hit. Transformers in Chernihiv Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Sumy Oblast were also damaged.

The Dniprovska HPP in Zaporizhia and the HPP in Kaniv, Cherkasy region, could also be under attack.

Block transformers were damaged at one of the Kyiv CHPs, said Oleksiy Kucherenko, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada energy committee.
https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/crkjg80rpmgo

Sergiy UR3CTB in Kaniv had his windows and front door blown out by the blast wave, fortunately he was not injured.

In Kyiv today, my area had a blackout that lasted 16 hours. Unfortunately, my neighbors' inverters and batteries were generating noise as usual. But I was able to make several QSO using a car battery, including one to Thailand E21EIC/8.

Also, half of the city was left without water supply. The attack began at midnight and ended only in the morning. By the evening, water and electricity supply were restored, but on the upper floors there is not enough water pressure in some places, and the voltage does not exceed 210 volts instead of 240.

MP Maryana Bezugla advises Kyiv residents to temporarily leave the capital for the winter. She emphasized that Kyiv is a strategic and symbolic target for the russians. "It is possible that it will be completely "downed". Completely - it is darkness without sewage, water supply in the middle of winter," Bezugla suggested.
https://kyiv.tsn.ua/kyiv/temriava-bez-kanalizatsiyi-i-vodopostachannia-nardepka-radyt-kyianam-na-zymu-vyyikhaty-z-mista-2931557.html

I sincerely appreciate such advice.

Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukraine has a plan A and a plan B in case of attacks on gas infrastructure and large-scale blackouts. Regarding problems with electricity supply, Zelensky said that the state will simultaneously protect the energy sector and restore networks after strikes.

"Regarding the gas infrastructure, which is currently under strong pressure from russian attacks. We have a plan "A" and a plan "B". In plan "B", if, for example, there is a strong attack on the entire gas infrastructure, we understand that we then have imports. We understand the volume and cost of the corresponding imports. This is plan "B". Plan "A" is when we use our own production more. In plan "B" we understand where to get the money that is needed," Zelensky concluded. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343172-ne-khvataet-sistem-pvo-zelenskiy-rasskazal-gotovitsya-li-ukraintsam-k-blekautam

As for plan A, I think it's too optimistic. russian strikes in recent days have wiped out more than half of Ukraine’s domestic natural gas production, likely forcing the war-battered country to spend 1.9 billion euros ($2.2 billion) on fuel imports to survive the looming winter, writes Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-09/russian-strikes-knock-out-more-than-half-of-ukraine-gas-output-ahead-of-winter

As for plan B, it looks like to buy russian gas, which is supplied to Europe on credit. Excellent!

On the night of October 9, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck two fuel and energy infrastructure facilities in the Volgograd region of russia. The Korobkovsky gas processing plant and the Yefimovka linear production dispatch station were hit, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. Korobkovsky GPP, located in the city of Kotovo, is one of the largest enterprises for the primary processing of natural and associated petroleum gas in southern russia. Its design capacity is about 450 million cubic meters of gas and 186 thousand tons of light hydrocarbon fractions per year. Yefimovka station provides transportation of oil and petroleum products in the region and has a throughput capacity of up to 50 million tons per year.

Explosions and a fire were recorded on the territory of both facilities. Data on the extent of damage is currently being clarified.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces consistently carry out operations aimed at undermining Russia's military-economic potential in order to force the aggressor to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine. https://tsn.ua/svit/syly-oborony-vdaryly-po-dvokh-vazlyvykh-obyektakh-rf-u-volhohradskiy-oblasti-detali-2930552.html

This is impressive, but more and more Ukrainians are asking why no missile or drone has yet hit Moscow and cause a blackout in russia as Zelensky promised in response to attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

During the attack on the base of the Federal Security Service of the russian federation in the north of the temporarily occupied Crimea, Ukrainian forces used three Flamingo cruise missiles, wrote the German publication Welt. According to Welt, the Ukrainian army is currently armed with probably dozens, and possibly more than a hundred Flamingo missiles. https://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/plus68e5009c727cb23c507934e0/marschflugkoerper-auge-um-auge-was-die-ukraine-mit-ihrer-maechtigen-neuen-waffe-plant.html

Perhaps these figures only reflect the costs of this program, so we are waiting for their use.

On Thursday, October 9, a MiG-31 fighter-interceptor, which also carries supersonic Kinzhal missiles, crashed in the Lipetsk region (russia). According to preliminary information, the pilots of the plane ejected. https://www.obozrevatel.com/ukr/novosti-rossii/u-lipetskij-oblasti-rf-rozbivsya-nosij-kindzhaliv-mig-31-scho-vidomo.htm

US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Ukraine and russia will soon hold talks on a peaceful settlement. He made the statement at the White House, where he hosted Finnish President Alexander Stubb. https://www.eurointegration.com.ua/news/2025/10/10/7222115/

Donald Trump also thanked Vladimir putin for his words that the Nobel Peace Prize had "lost credibility" because it was not awarded to an American leader. https://nv.ua/ukr/world/geopolitics/donald-tramp-podyakuvav-putinu-za-pidtrimku-na-shlyahu-do-nobelivskoji-premiji-miru-50551744.html

Vladimir putin claims that Moscow is building its work on the “settlement” of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine on the basis of the principles discussed during his summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

putin made this statement on Friday, October 10, during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), the russian news agency RIA Novosti reports. https://nv.ua/ukr/world/geopolitics/volodimir-putin-zrobiv-novu-zayavu-shchodo-viyni-rf-proti-ukrajini-50551635.html

So, we would like to know what Trump and Putin did agree on in Alaska.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, announced a new "strategic task" for the russian army - the occupation of Zaporizhia, the regional center of which is only 22 km from the front line. https://expres.online/podrobitsi/putin-zminiv-tsili-svo-teper-v-armii-rf-nove-strategichne-zavdannya

Radosław Sikorski, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Poland, published in the New York Times his vision of how to negotiate with putin. Just do it in two stages: Make a show of force first, and only then have dialogue. To do this, it is essential to continue to support Ukraine financially and militarily, and to undermine the foundations of the russian war economy. A good beginning would be for the self-described MAGA acolytes in Hungary and Slovakia to listen to Mr. Trump and stop buying russian oil, and to finally use the more than $200 billion of frozen russian assets in Europe to give financial assistance to the victims of Mr. putin’s war.

The largest country on earth doesn’t need more land. It should take better care of what is already within its internationally recognized borders. The leadership of russia must understand that its attempt to rebuild Europe’s last empire is doomed to fail. The age of empires is over. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/opinion/putin-poland-radoslaw-sikorski.html

This night in Kyiv was quiet and all the batteries and phones were charged. But in Odesa, houses and energy facilities were destroyed and damaged. https://odesa.novyny.live/vibiti-vikna-i-dron-u-kvartiri-naslidki-nichnoyi-ataki-na-odesu-286872.html

The occupiers also advanced in three settlements in Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions. https://gazeta.ua/articles/life/_analitiki-zafiksuvali-prosuvannya-v-troh-selah-na-donechchini-ta-zaporizhzhi-i-nazvali-lokaciyi/1232689

Hundreds of missiles delivered to Ukraine months ahead of schedule as UK leads Kyiv trade delegation, the British government website reports. The missiles, known as Lightweight Multirole Missiles, manufactured in Belfast are used to defend Ukraine’s airspace. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/hundreds-of-missiles-delivered-to-ukraine-months-ahead-of-schedule-as-uk-leads-kyiv-trade-delegation

Drones hit the Bashneft refinery in Ufa, 1,400 kilometers from Ukraine. https://gazeta.ua/articles/world-life/_droni-urazili-npz-bashnafta-v-ufi-za-1400-kilometriv-vid-ukrayini-zmi/1232684

Three and a half years since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with a US-led peace process on ice and a stalemate on the battlefield, Kyiv’s allies are calling for renewed economic pressure on Moscow. The aim: to raise the cost of war for the Kremlin to a level that forces it to change course.

Eighteen packages of European Union sanctions and dozens more from the United States, United Kingdom and others have weakened russia’s economy – but not its resolve to carry on fighting, writes CNN. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/11/business/russia-ukraine-war-economic-levers-intl

It seems that the so-called experts do not understand that, firstly, time is lost, and secondly, sanctions have never been truly painful for russia. Although using the word pain is also wrong. Any measures must be effective. Because pain and inconvenience will only be for the people and the regime in russia will use it to confirm the arguments of its propaganda. As for the stability of the russian economy, no numbers will convince me that one of the few countries in the world that is completely autonomous in resources and has full support from China, trade relations with most of the world and sells its gas and oil even to Europe, will not be able to exist and continue the war solely because of economic problems. Even the lack of gasoline will not force people to go to protests, because for russians since Soviet times, a car has been a luxury that they can do without. What is difficult for a russian to do without is vodka, but in extreme cases, everyone can start making moonshine. Even my grandmother made it when there was a shortage of vodka in Soviet times. This added a little to her small pension.

Even in the army, the situation has changed, although for it there will always be resources. If in the Second World War huge tank armies and thousands of aircraft were critically dependent on fuel, now the main battles are fought by drones and infantry, and logistics are based on the railway. We have already witnessed how attacks on Ukrainian energy immediately affected the railways.

As for the resilience of people, the situation is similar in russia and Ukraine, which is probably difficult to understand in the West. Even if large cities were completely left without energy and water, people would return to villages, where almost every family grows potatoes and many other vegetables, has chickens and pigs. Only, unlike Ukraine, for whose inhabitants there is always an alternative to go to Europe (at least for women and children), in russia they can go only to Siberia, because none of their neighbors will provide assistance to the russians.

Scandals have become more frequent in Ukraine due to the “busification” of men, even together with their pets. For example, in Kyiv, workers at a mobilization center mobilized a man together with his dog. The video was published by a number of local Telegram channels. The police reported that they were later released. https://enovosty.com/uk/news-ukr/lifestyle/full/u-kiyevi-pracivniki-tck-mobilizuvali-cholovika-razom-iz-jogo-sobakoyu-video

In one of the mobilization camps, a fight was caught on video, which broke out after one of the soldiers swooped down and hit a civilian, after which the civilian reacted in response. https://life.kyiv.ua/news/konflikt-u-stolichnomu-tck-cholovik-vidpoviv-viyskovomu-pislya-udaru

The problem is that no law provides for the right to beat or detain people during mobilization, depriving them of their freedom. The moral dilemma is complicated by the fact that it is apparently impossible to explain why one person should go to the front instead of another. For example, why is a builder or a driver worse than a prosecutor or a judge? The criteria for exemption from service and the grounds for reservation are difficult to recognize as fair, and the procedure remains extremely corrupt. Especially when in fact the young and healthy often catch the old and sick, who go to the army instead of them.

Studying at a university or graduate school cannot be a reason for evading mobilization, and all cases of abuse are thoroughly investigated, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykola Trofymenko said. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343165-v-mon-zayavili-chto-obuchenie-ne-osvobozhdaet-ot-mobilizatsii-universitety-nachali-proverki

Since I personally know several fake applicants for a scientific degree, I am sure that they will simply be forced to pay a bribe again so that they are not touched and nothing will change. But should we blame these people for taking advantage of the opportunity that the state created for them?

Putin plays Trump very easily. He exploits Trump’s pathological narcissism and distorted perception of reality at every opportunity. As you mentioned, the latest public example was his comment echoing Trump’s delusion that the Nobel committee is playing politics rather than giving him the peace prize. These little things cost Putin nothing but they generate good will in Trump’s addled mind and in his followers, causing him to vacillate and delay truly decisive and effective action against Russia.

It is not a mistake that his spokespersons also lie and use insane hyperbole in public statements, because they must keep the “reality distortion field” operating for Trump and his hardcore MAGA followers. Here is what they said about the Nobel situation and Trump as quoted by the Washington Post yesterday:

“On Friday morning, Steven Cheung, the White House director of communications, wrote that the “Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace. President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” he added.”

“White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly previously told The Washington Post that Trump’s efforts to end global conflicts are not about awards. “While the President deserves the Nobel Peace Prize many times over, he doesn’t care about recognition — only saving lives,” she said in a statement.”

All Trump needs now is a red cape to go with his selfless superhero powers - and a Nobel, of course. Which brings up the topic of the Gaza war, for another discussion.  Trump certainly deserves credit for seizing the opportunity to push Netanyahu and Hamas to take a step toward ending the war, which was possible because both are now in untenable positions. However only the first step has been agreed to and both have made statements casting doubt on what comes afterwards. Talk of a peace prize for this is premature.

Yesterday I heard Australia on 21MHz. It's quite far from here, but it was a contest call and I decided not to bother him. Then I heard another one nearby and decided that I couldn't miss such an opportunity. So, in a couple of hours on 21 and 28 MHz 100W and vertical I made almost 2 dozen QSO with Australia, Indonesia, Philippines and Mariana Islands in Oceania DX contest.

Today in Kyiv it was quiet and sunny, but the wind picked up in the evening. A reconnaissance drone flew during the day, so there could be another attack at night.

As for the rest of Ukraine, russia launched more than 100 drones during the night, which hit the power grid in Donetsk and Odessa regions, causing a loss of electricity there.

The Armed Forces of Belarus have been placed on full combat readiness as the country launches a large-scale inspection covering multiple command levels and units. The maneuvers are aimed at assessing the army's ability to operate in the event of a security escalation. This announcement comes shortly after Belarus held annual mobilization readiness exercises from October 7 to 10, organized under the leadership of regional authorities. https://en.defence-ua.com/news/belarusian_armed_forces_placed_on_full_combat_readiness_following_lukashenkos_order-16114.html

Gasoline supply disruptions that began in August in the russian Far East have spread to at least 57 regions of russia. Some gas stations are forced to close, gasoline prices are rising rapidly, and authorities have banned the export of petroleum products until the end of the year. The crisis is unfolding amid a record number of attacks on russian energy facilities by Ukrainian drones, according to a BBC analysis.

Meanwhile, amid the shortage, according to Reuters, Belarus quadrupled its gasoline exports to russia by rail in September. Media outlets also reported that the government is considering eliminating import duties on petroleum products from several Asian countries, including China.

Given the current level of damage, the refineries are being restored within two to three weeks, so the further development of the crisis will depend on Ukraine: how many drones can Ukraine produce? What size drones, how often, and in what quantities can it send against russia? Will it continue to concentrate its firepower on refineries or choose other targets? https://www.bbc.com/russian/articles/cy7pr2565vvo

Yes, CW is the only mode I use recently. The antenna is vertical you can see on QRZ.COM page. I think it's thanks to the guys with the big antennas on the other side)

I still have electricity, but there are outages in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv regions, partially in Kirovohrad and Zaporizhia regions, hourly in Chernihiv region

In Ukraine, the heating season has been shortened, which will now last from November 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Previously, heating was turned on from October 15 and ended on April 15. But no one knows whether it will be possible to turn on the heating at all if the attacks on the energy sector continue. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/343506-otopitelnyy-sezon-sokraschen-kabmin-perenes-start-s-oktyabrya-na-noyabr
