Last night I felt bad and went to bed early. It was the right decision, because just after midnight the drone attack started and I couldn't sleep anymore. There were a few hits in Kyiv, but it seems there were no serious consequences.

At least it's still far from total destruction like in Gaza https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c3w54gy568qt . It seems Israel will destroy Palestine before russia destroys Ukraine. An expedition of Slovaks who arrived in the West Bank is currently on the air. It is not known who issued them a license for the call sign E44OM https://www.qrz.com/db/E44OM , which they use, but it is almost impossible for me to break through those who want to make a QSO with them.

After a massive russian drone attack on Poland, many local residents have seriously considered moving abroad. Demand for foreign real estate has increased significantly over the past week, writes Gazeta Wyborcza. Real estate in Spain is in particular demand. https://krakow.wyborcza.pl/krakow/7,44425,32251065,drony-spadaja-ludzie-szukaja-domu-za-granica-za-taka-kwote.html

Meanwhile, the Council of the European Union has approved recommendations for the gradual winding down of the temporary protection program for Ukrainians. It will last until March 4, 2027. This was reported by the EU press service on Tuesday, September 16. https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2025/09/16/protection-of-displaced-ukrainians-council-adopts-recommendation-about-transition-out-of-temporary-protection/

It seems that everyone who is able to work will be offered to stay in another status, and everyone else will be sent back to Ukraine. Perhaps Europe is already planning what to do with the next refugees from other countries.

Today three russian warplanes that violated Estonian airspace have been intercepted by Nato, the military alliance has said. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrp6p5mj3zo

It seems that Europe still does not understand that russia will only stop where it is stopped. In this regard, a good example remains Turkey, which shot down a russian plane in 2015 and the provocations immediately stopped. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Russian_Sukhoi_Su-24_shootdown

It is noteworthy that Turkey was not afraid of escalation nor did it ask NATO for support.

Trump is no ‘strongman’ when it comes to russia or Israel. If other democracies don’t step up, anarchy awaits, says Simon Tisdall, a columnist for The Guardian newspaper.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/sep/14/donald-trump-russia-israel-vladimir-putin-benjamin-netanyahu

Meanwhile, the appearance of American military observers at the Belarusian-russian military exercises came as an unpleasant surprise and something that seemed impossible during russia's attack on Ukraine. Belarus, which has been trying to improve relations with the United States even as it remains dependent on russia and an enabler of its war, seemed to revel in the U.S. attendance at the war games, called Zapad 2025 (West-2025). https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/15/world/europe/russia-belarus-zapad-2025-war-games.html

I can't understand why the EU would set a hard deadline for Ukrainian refugees if they don't know when the war is going to end!

I can't understand why the EU would set a hard deadline for Ukrainian refugees if they don't know when the war is going to end!

Maybe they want the war to end, or maybe they just want to change the status of refugees. Integrate and leave forever those who work and return those who are not useful. Today, Great Britain, Canada and Australia recognized a Palestinian state. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce800enrglzo
On the one hand, it is formal, but I do not exclude that it was also done with a very pragmatic purpose - to deport Palestinians to their own country.

Given that in most countries people have become commodities with a citizenship collar around their necks, and animals in the most advanced countries already have more rights than people, accounting and controlling the movement of people has become a very important task for the authorities. And digitalization is taking this process to an unprecedented level.

There are over 350 state registers in Ukraine. The government plans to consolidate information about them into a single system — the "register of registers." https://suspilne.media/981167-v-ukraini-stvorat-reestr-reestriv-v-mincifri-rozpovili-ak-vin-pracuvatime/

The Parliament adopted a law on collecting data about citizens from all registers into the Unified System of the Social Sphere. This information system will actually form a complete picture of citizens, as data will be collected from various registers, from information about the situation with a person's military registration and border crossing to their tax payments and the presence of cars, apartments, land, open enforcement proceedings, etc. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341400-verkhovnaya-rada-prinyala-zakon-o-sbore-dannykh-o-grazhdanakh-iz-vsekh-reestrov-v-edinuyu-sistemu-sotsialnoy-sfery

As you understand, citizens' consent to the collection and disposal of information about them is not assumed, and the level of security is eloquently illustrated by a recent cases.
During the Ministry of Digital Affairs' testing of the e-notary system, it turned out that data on powers of attorney, wills, and accompanying documents became publicly available in the test version. The Notary Chamber of Ukraine stated that the leak of information from the Inheritance Register grossly violates the rights of citizens to preserve the secrecy of wills and creates real risks of unauthorized access to confidential data. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341411-v-khode-testirovaniya-mintsifry-e-notariata-dannye-o-doverennostyakh-zaveschaniyakh-i-soprovoditelnykh-dokumentakh-popali-v-svobodnyy-dostup-npu-zayavila-o-narushenii-notarialnoy-tayny

MP Oleksandr Fedienko reported that a file with personal data of over 20 million citizens of Ukraine has been discovered in the public domain. According to him, this is an archive with citizens' data, some of which was already in the public domain through various state registers, but now this data has been collected into a single array. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/341614-lichnye-dannye-20-mln-grazhdan-slili-v-set-nardep-aleksandr-fedienko

It seems that some hackers or other individuals who had access to state registers got ahead of the authorities, and the figure of 20 million citizens indicates the real population size in Ukraine.

Outside the window is wonderful weather and sunshine, which will soon replace the cold and rain. Again, complete uncertainty, but I believe in God and that He will again help me overcome all difficulties.

In recent days, despite frequent air alarms, Kyiv has been relatively quiet and without destruction, which cannot be said for other regions. russia is consistently attacking the energy sector and the railways, and energy workers are already asking to save electricity. I think this year the blackouts will return and be worse, since there are no more reserves.

Ukraine's air force says Moscow launched 619 drones and missiles on September 20. They hit Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. russia's defence ministry says its "massive strike" used "precision weapons" and targeted military-industrial facilities.

Ukraine's military said its drones struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region. It also said the Saratov oil refinery was hit overnight in the neighbouring region. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce3253gxqvwo

The russian army shelled Ukraine with missiles and drones on the night of September 21-22. Three people were killed in Zaporizhia and wounded in the Kyiv region. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the russians launched 141 drones, of which 131 were shot down in the north, south, east and center of the country. Zaporizhia was attacked with aerial bombs. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/ckg2ywxz7ggo

And this affects not only Ukrainian infrastructure. Foreign aid will also be greatly reduced. The political crisis in France, which may lead to a change of government, may change its attitude towards supporting Ukraine. The russians are trying to influence the results of the upcoming elections in Moldova. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g5kl0n5d2o

Also, russian provocations in Poland, Romania and the Baltic states are shifting the focus of attention of the EU and NATO to them. Money and weapons that previously went to Ukraine may now be directed to arming the countries of NATO's eastern flank.

Many analysts speculate about when russia might run out of money for the war in Ukraine, ignoring the fact that Ukraine might run out of money first, writes The Spectactor.

Kyiv has approved a draft budget for next year that includes record amounts for defense with a projected deficit of 18.4% of GDP - about 2.4 trillion hryvnias. However, according to IMF estimates, the real deficit could be about 1.1 trillion hryvnias higher. In addition, the government still has to close a hole of almost 330 billion hryvnias in the current budget.

At the same time, Ukraine spends 31% of its GDP on the war - about 5.1 trillion hryvnias per year, while russia's military budget is 13.5 trillion rubles, or 6.7 trillion hryvnias.

At the same time, Kyiv can cover only half of this amount through taxes and domestic borrowing, and the rest falls on the shoulders of allies, writes The Spectactor. At the same time, no agreements or promises have been reached yet that Ukraine's partners are ready to transfer such a huge amount. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/kyiv-is-running-out-of-money/

The effectiveness of sanctions is not only demonstrated by the amounts that Europe spends on the purchase of russian gas and oil. One in six tankers in the world is now part of the so-called russian "shadow fleet", which accounts for approximately 17% of the total number of operating tankers, The New York Times reports, citing data from research company S&P Global Market Intelligence. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/20/world/europe/russia-shadow-fleet-oil-sanctions-ukraine-war.html

The United States is suspending arms and military equipment sales to some European countries, including Patriot air defense systems, in an apparent bid to replenish its own stockpiles, The Atlantic reports. https://www.theatlantic.com/national-security/archive/2025/09/arms-sale-europe-trump-colby-ukraine/684274/

US President's special representative Keith Kellogg said that Ukraine will have to come to terms with the reality that russia has already occupied most of Donbas. According to Kellogg, the United States promises to treat the occupied parts of Ukraine the same way it treated the Baltic states in the 1940s-80s, The Telegraph reports. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/09/19/keith-kellogg-putin-russia-ukraine-nuclear-poker-trump/

At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities entertain the people and distract them by using tear gas during mobilization and stopping traffic in the center of Kyiv every day at 09:00 for a national minute of silence. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/341532-massovaya-stychka-na-predpriyatii-v-kovele-voennye-ttsk-primenili-slezotochivyy-gaz
https://babel.ua/news/121616-hreshchatik-perekrivatimut-shchodnya-o-09-00-na-chas-zagalnonacionalnoji-hvilini-movchannya

British intelligence has announced the militarization of the russian Guard, which strengthens its ability to counter threats from the putin regime. https://x.com/DefenceHQ/status/1970058264193773744

Well, in this, the russians are again copying the Ukrainian authorities, which have long done this with the National Guard of Ukraine. Who would have thought that the russians would learn from Ukraine how to fight their own population.

Autumn has already arrived and the air temperature has dropped by 10 degrees in a day. There is still no rain and under other circumstances I would not sit at home for a minute, but would go out of town or travel on a motorcycle. I attribute the deterioration of my well-being primarily to low mobility. Short walks in the nearby park in the evenings are the only available option. There is no more work either, so all that remains is to sit at home and read books and the news.

Kyiv has been quiet in recent days, and russian drone attacks are focused on frontline cities and energy and transport infrastructure.

With air and sea traffic effectively suspended, rail remains the main means of transporting passengers, commercial, and military cargo. Oleksandr Pertsovsky, the chairman of the board of the monopoly railway carrier Ukrzaliznytsia, said in an interview with Reuters that the enemy has begun a "hunt for locomotives" and electrical substations, using special drones with video guidance. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/russia-targets-ukraines-lifeline-railways-with-systematic-attacks-ceo-says-2025-09-23/

On the night of September 23, russian forces launched an airstrike on Zaporizhia, using six high-explosive aerial bombs. Civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were hit. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1106917-rosiya-drugu-nich-pospil-atakuvala-zaporizhzhya-aviabombamy-zagynuv-cholovik

russian occupiers have also attacked infrastructure in the Kirovohrad region, delaying at least five passenger trains. https://nv.ua/ukr/ukraine/events/obstril-kirovogradshchini-ukrzaliznicya-zminila-rozklad-pislya-obstriliv-50547099.html

On September 24, the russian army occupied the villages of Novomykolaivka in Dnipropetrovsk region and Novoivanivka in Zaporizhia region, and also advanced near three nearby settlements, the DeepState analytical project reported. https://gazeta.ua/articles/donbas/_rosiyani-prosunulis-u-dvoh-oblastyah-deepstate/1231018

Today, the russian occupiers launched a combined strike, including ballistics, on one of the training units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result of a precise hit on the shelter, despite the security measures taken, it was not possible to completely avoid losses among the personnel. https://www.unian.ua/war/vorog-iskanderami-atakuvav-navchalniy-pidrozdil-zsu-sered-viyskovih-ye-vtrati-13141188.html?utm_source=ukrnet_news

A sneaky move is to aim for the shelter because everyone will rush there after the air raid alert is announced.

Meanwhile, the russians seem to have decided to expand their provocations further into Europe. Two of Scandinavia’s busiest airports – Oslo and Copenhagen – were forced to close for several hours due to drone sightings overnight into Tuesday, disrupting the travel plans of tens of thousands of people. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/09/22/europe/copenhagen-oslo-airport-closed-drones-int-latam

I came across the idea that the general goal of this new trick of the rushist military with drones sent to NATO countries is to scare the population of those countries so that they start putting pressure on their governments. And here there may be slightly different tasks - Norway allocates 8 billion dollars in military aid to Ukraine, and the Kremlin is trying to reduce this figure in such a primitive way.

Drones were sent to Copenhagen - they want Denmark not to even come close to blocking the important Danish straits, through which a large part of oil from russia is transported for sale by tankers.

They want Poland to close the hubs and routes of communication with Ukraine, primarily for military cargo.

They want the same from Romania, plus reduce Western influence on the upcoming elections in Moldova.

Hungary and Slovakia are already in Moscow's team, and now it will be easier for them to sing along with russia, using the events around them.

They don't throw anything from the drone fleet against Sweden or Finland, because the internal views of the population there are almost 100% anti-russian and they can't be changed so easily, so they don't spend unnecessary effort on it. In addition, among the population of the russians themselves, puten continues to gain points as a powerful warrior.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with Fox News that he does not believe in a quick end to the russian-Ukrainian war and expressed doubts about the duration of economic support for Ukraine from European countries. According to the Turkish president, Ukraine “is not able to compete with russia” economically, and Europe will not be able to provide economic assistance to Ukraine forever. https://www.foxnews.com/video/6379948548112

The International Monetary Fund has persuaded Ukraine’s government to significantly increase its projections of additional funding the country will need through the end of 2027 in the face of protracted russia’s invasion, according to people familiar with the matter. Kyiv initially estimated the gap in foreign financing at almost $38 billion, but the discussions with the IMF have lifted the figure to around $65 billion, according to the officials, reports Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-22/ukraine-accepts-imf-forecast-of-bigger-65-billion-financing-gap

It's quiet and sunny in Kyiv. The temperature is +14C and there is electricity. Something tells me that I will still remember these wonderful times.

Ukraine and russia continue to be bombarded with air strikes. At night, shelling led to the loss of power to four railway sections and damage to infrastructure in Ukraine, train delays were recorded. https://unn.ua/news/na-zaliznytsi-znestrumlennia-cherez-vorozhi-obstrily-zatrymky-nyzky-poizdiv-siahaiut-5-hodyn

In the Zaporizhia direction, the Ukrainian military managed to shoot down a russian Su-34 aircraft.
https://24tv.ua/ukrayinski-viyskovi-zbili-vorozhiy-su-34_n2921217

The Ukrainian Defense Forces in Crimea have destroyed two Be-12 amphibious aircraft and one Mi-8 helicopter, whose main function is to patrol the coastal waters. The systematic destruction of coastal radar stations that monitor the maritime situation is also underway. All this should simplify the movement of Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea. https://ua.krymr.com/a/ataky-zsu-krym-litaky-amfibiyi-morski-drony-perspektyvy/33538734.html

Key russian ports on the Black Sea have halted oil shipments after Ukrainian drone attacks on Novorossiysk and Tuapse. https://delo.ua/news/droni-zupinili-robotu-dvox-naftovix-portiv-rosiyi-na-cornomu-mori-452914/

Ukrainian military personnel have struck a number of energy and production facilities in russia as part of measures to weaken its "military-economic potential," the General Staff of the Armed Forces reported on September 24. These are factories producing explosives, drone parts, and oil refining complexes. https://www.radiosvoboda.org/a/news-komanduvannia-naslidky-ostanikh-udariv-obiekty-rosii/33539734.html

On Wednesday, September 24, the authorities of the russian city of Novorossiysk announced an attack by drones and naval drones on the city and the main base of the russian Black Sea Fleet. https://www.slovoidilo.ua/2025/09/24/novyna/svit/novorosijsku-drony-atakuvaly-bazu-chornomorskoho-flotu-rf-ye-zahybli

All these attacks are, of course, painful for russia, but not at all critical, while Ukraine faces deepening military, political and economic problems. Ukraine is fighting bravely against Russia, but the brunt of the war has fallen on the shoulders of its people, while the government has been mired in political squabbles. Compared to what could have happened, Ukraine’s resilience is still impressive. Three and a half years later, russia has suffered a military defeat, even if Ukraine is also bleeding. putin has not even managed to capture Kharkiv, which is only 35 km from the border, let alone Kyiv. Ukraine is holding on because its people insisted on it. Much of the country’s security backbone was formed independently of — and often in defiance of — a weak state. The problem, however, is that russia often copies and then mass-produces Ukrainian innovations faster than Ukraine itself can do it. Meanwhile, mobilization is becoming increasingly difficult and rigid. There are also problems with democracy. Trust between the government and society is undermined. Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s rise as a cult hero in the West has fueled his arrogance. He has begun to believe in his destiny. https://www.economist.com/europe/2025/09/23/ukraine-faces-deepening-military-political-and-economic-problems

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected accusations of monopolizing power and disdain for parliament in an interview with Fox News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXllm_xHNuQ . The journalist quoted Zelensky from a Politico article that said there was growing discontent within his Servant of the People party over “Zelensky’s highly personalized management style, tendency to disdain parliament, and moves against anti-corruption agencies.” https://www.politico.eu/article/volodymyr-zelenskyy-ukraine-servant-of-the-people-party/?reg-wall=true

Interestingly, Zelensky told the Americans that he was ready for elections if security was ensured, although the authorities told the Ukrainians that they were impossible due to the war. But it seems that the authorities are not ready to give up power. Some of them have already begun to compare themselves to gods.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov stated in an interview with "Armia TV" published on September 22 that the work of a minister is "divine." "I have such a job that you are first and foremost... In general, you know, ministerial work is a kind of divine work, because you design the rules of the game. What other job is there where you create the rules of the game for millions of people? That's where God is and I don't know who else is. So it's actually a job that is quite interesting," Fedorov said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePBwCKgrdrg&t=1180s

On the other hand, the probability of a violent change of power in Ukraine is very small for several reasons. Some believe that to repeat the Maidan, which was in 2014, there was not enough people's discontent, external and internal organizers, money, militants, etc. are needed. In their opinion, the situation looks like this.

External factors, our "partners". They don't need that now, because the Ukrainian authorities are fulfilling the task of burning Ukrainians in the war, which gives them time to become more prepared for a serious confrontation with the russian federation. After the parade in Beijing and a more confident broadcast of the russian federation's intentions, the "partners" are already clear that it, a hot confrontation, will happen, it is not clear in what form. Therefore, the "Ukraine testing ground" and the "Ukraine buffer zone" according to their plans should perform their functions of practicing counteraction to russian weapons and tactics for as long as possible. In parallel, cashback schemes and other lobbying for the production and sale of weapons to Ukraine have already been rolled out, so everyone is doing well. And if the Ukrainian authorities do something wrong or steal a lot, then no one has put the cardboards away - students will wave them again in front of the government building. And of course, sometimes they will, like yesterday in Politico, give them a slap in the face, reminding them of their place.

Internal organizers - here the regime has already come to its senses and reacted in time. Media soldiers (not barbershop clowns, but talented organizers) all received their benefits, and are temporarily loyal to the regime. (Here I have to explain some expressions generated by the war. A barbershop warrior is a person who tries to look like a real soldier who does not shave while being in the trenches for many days. But such people, dressed in camouflage clothes and with a glamorous beard, look more funny than severe). Radicals also receive benefits, tamed and loyal, at the moment, of course. The opposition is ridiculous and helpless. The special services manage to collect money from business, and absorb the budget, and catch spies, and they also destroy russians in large quantities. So the special services are in good shape, loyal more or less - a very important factor against a full-fledged Maidan. Self-organization of people: "The military administration will not agree, and without it there is no way." And also, all men from 25 to 60 years old (and then maybe from 22 (18) to 60) risk getting into a mobilization center on the way to the Maidan venue. Coming to Kyiv for help through checkpoints? Very funny. As they say: "Revolutions are made in capitals, in the provinces it is a riot."

The war factor is also very important, although these scoundrels have already fucked everyone up to ravings, but all sensible citizens understand that there is a chance to miss the front during the unrest, and get a russian regime instead of the Zelensky regime, a kind of change, it's not worth it.

Yes, we have a problem with the front, it has already been officially estimated that 200 thousand have voluntarily left the units and 50 thousand deserted, something like that ... And the russians can still add resources to themselves through allies and mobilization, and add quite a lot so that we will immediately feel very bad ...

Therefore, in the near future we will receive (and are already receiving), of course, if we have time:
- training society in new rituals to increase loyalty and weaken resistance, perhaps "two minutes hate" will be introduced;
- lowering the mobilization age, removing reservations and even from "conyo boy";
- raising taxes and possibly (but not definitely) transferring the economy to military rails;
- several high-profile demonstrative (then they will probably be released) anti-corruption cases and "moving beds".

Of course, such conclusions are only one of the options for the development of events, provided that the situation slowly develops in the same direction, but this does not mean that tomorrow something can change and everything will suddenly turn upside down again as it has happened in the past.

I even heard such a radical idea that the introduction of a traffic stop in the center every day is the first step of technology to turn Ukrainians into cattle. Today you become an entire country for a minute every day, and tomorrow you will be forced to carry a portrait of the Fuhrer and kneel for five minutes and kiss that portrait. And then you will walk in formation and shout "Glory to the Fuhrer, glory to Ukraine". Of course, I do not believe that this is possible in Ukraine, but one story alarmed me.

Kyiv businessman Artur Ponomarev was outraged by the blocking of Khreshchatyk during the minute of silence, calling it a “show-off.” After the criticism, he apologized and assured that he supported Ukraine and was not against commemorating those killed in russian aggression. He later posted several more videos in which he said that he was receiving insults and threats, in particular that he and his loved ones would be sent to war. In addition, he received phone calls from the military, with whom he spoke and "explained his position", as well as employees of the Security Service of Ukraine who came to conduct a "preventive conversation". https://hromadske.ua/kyyiv/251929-biznesmen-iz-kyyeva-iakyy-nazvav-khvylynu-movchannia-na-khreshchatyku-prymusovoiu-pokazukhoiu-rozpoviv-pro-vizyt-sbu-i-pohrozy-sluzboiu

The point is not even that it is impossible to force people to be patriots or to respect something, but that once again we are most likely dealing with a crude and primitive manipulation to distract people's attention from something else, for example, from the advancement of the russians at the front or blatant corruption. In any case, I would not like Ukraine to turn into a russia in which any disagreement with the authorities ends badly.

Meanwhile, the influence of the state on everything is growing rapidly and the courts are increasingly taking the side of the state when it comes to restricting the rights and freedoms of citizens.

The Supreme Court confirmed that despite the fact that the law "On the Procedure for Citizens' Departure from Ukraine" does not contain restrictions on the right to freely leave Ukraine under martial law, this does not mean that such restrictions cannot be applied on the basis of special laws. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341821-verkhovnyy-sud-to-chto-zakon-o-poryadke-vyezda-iz-ukrainy-grazhdan-ne-soderzhit-ogranicheniy-prava-svobodno-pokidat-ukrainu-v-usloviyakh-voennogo-polozheniya-ne-oznachaet-chto-takie-ogranicheniya-ne-mogut-primenyatsya-na-osnovanii-spetsialnykh-zakonov

I don't know why the deputies simply won't change the relevant laws, but when they need to, everything is done quite quickly.

It is also proposed to amend the law "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law", according to which the head of the military administration will be able to prematurely terminate the powers or dismiss local government officials. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341753-nachalnik-voennoy-administratsii-smozhet-dosrochno-prekraschat-polnomochiya-dolzhnostnykh-lits-mestnogo-samoupravleniya-izmeneniya-v-zakon-o-voennom-polozhenii

Foreign investors will be able to be checked for integrity and compliance with national interests by the Ministry of Economy and a commission with representatives of law enforcement agencies. The draft law on screening foreign direct investments has been registered in parliament. It proposes to protect Ukrainian enterprises in strategic areas from being controlled by foreign investors, to introduce an assessment of the impact of foreign investments on national interests and security, and to take into account the factors of integrity and reliability of the investor. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341837-inostrannykh-investorov-smogut-proveryat-na-dobroporyadochnost-i-sootvetstvie-natsionalnym-interesam-minekonomiki-i-komissiya-s-predstavitelyami-sbu-svr-i-mid

I would like to believe that these measures will be aimed at preventing russians from entering Ukraine, but won't this lead to even greater corruption and make it more difficult to invest in Ukraine?

The total digitalization that the government is trying to implement is bringing a unique vibe to the country's life. For example, the digital interface of the registry, which is used to keep records of those liable for military service, is regularly out of order. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/341774-u-rezerv-cherez-tekhnichni-problemi-nemozhlivo-onoviti-dani-ta-nadislati-zapiti

But this is the very program that records violations of military registration, a person being wanted, and because of mistakes in which anyone can receive a fine or be detained. Needless to say, in cases of such mistakes, no one compensates for the harm caused to people?

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is also actively working on creating a national language model (LLM) and a chatbot Diya.AI (mobile app, a web portal and a brand of e-governance in Ukraine.  The Diia portal allows access to over 130 government services.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diia

In total, the technical product team across all areas has 15 people. https://sud.ua/uk/news/publication/341776-bezopasnost-ostaetsya-postoyannym-vyzovom-v-mintsifry-obyasnili-kak-rabotayut-s-personalnymi-dannymi-pri-sozdanii-natsionalnoy-llm-modeli-i-diyaai

I don't even want to comment on this.

Hi everyone! Sorry that I haven’t commented in a while. I’ve been very busy.

I was helping my disabled son and girlfriend to locate, lease and move into a different apartment in another nearby city.  Also I had to complete many chores and projects before having laparoscopic surgery yesterday to repair an inquinal hernia. There is a 6 week recovery period, during which I plan to participate much more regularly.

Jaye,

it was good to read your post. Your love and devotion to your friend in advocating and pushing for good treatment is inspiring especially given your own health struggle. I hope a better treatment for you will be found soon that doesn’t cause so much fatigue.

So nice to hear about your little cat family! Pets are wonderful for our spirits and mental health. We are searching for a suitable dog now after losing our Labrador to a sudden aggressive cancer a few months ago.

Glad to see you again! I am sorry for the dog. It's hard to lose your beloved pets. Because of this, I decided not to even get hamsters anymore. It's good that you've improved your health. This is the main thing I'm struggling with here with varying success. I managed to control my high blood pressure with medication, but for two weeks I suffered from headaches of unknown origin. The only thing that helped was getting more sleep, although I was constantly having strange dreams. It's impossible to work in this state. Yesterday I went to bed at 9 pm and today I woke up at 9 am. So far, my head doesn't hurt and I'm writing using this.

Seva defended his diploma yesterday and is going to return to Ukraine. Apparently, he hopes to take the place of those who are leaving it. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c3e7dzwl1eko

He chose an interesting time for this. russia has finally decided to move forward at any cost and judging by their official propaganda they consider this to be the only goal of a state fighting for its existence. russia's defense spending to remain high over the next three years. https://24tv.ua/economy/vitrati-viynu-chomu-rosiya-ne-planuye-yih-skorochuvati-nastupni_n2922224

Although if we take into account their population of around 150 million people on a vast territory, as well as their total technological backwardness, they cannot compete with any of their possible rivals - the USA or Europe, and even less so neighboring China. So it seems to me that de facto Russia should be considered only as a vassal of China, which uses it in its own interests. But this in no way makes the fate of Ukraine easier, on whose territory the interests of the West and the East have now collided. And if globally everyone understands the weakness of russia, which can threaten the world only with nuclear weapons, then locally it also outweighs the much weaker Ukraine. And for the inhabitants of Ukraine this is of direct importance. Perhaps russia understands that sooner or later it will lose its east, so there is logic in its desire to expand westward. The fact that it is building large fortifications in the occupied east of Ukraine is reminiscent of the ancient Romans building fortresses in conquered territories. But where are those Romans now?

Zaluzhny published an article in which he gave his vision of the situation at the front. In his opinion, there is indeed a positional deadlock, but there is a steady tendency to break out of it from russia. He admits that death, injury, or mental breakdown are in fact inevitable consequences of a long stay on the front line in modern conditions. https://zn.ua/ukr/war/rol-innovatsij-jak-osnovi-stratehiji-stijkoho-oporu-u-pozbavlenni-rosiji-mozhlivosti-navjazuvati-svoji-umovi-cherez-vijnu.html But all his reasoning does not go beyond the fact that someone should weaken russia and provide Ukraine with a technological advantage. Indeed, it is better to be healthy and rich than poor and sick.

Similarly, Zelensky asks Trump for Tomahawk missiles, but is silent about the widely advertised Ukrainian Flamingo missiles. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/09/26/zelensky-asks-trump-tomahawk-missiles-private-meeting/ Was I right when I said that the Flamingo would turn out to be nothing more than a pink painted Tomahawk? So no Tomahawks and no Flamingos.

US President Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that he is ready to lift the ban on strikes with American weapons on russian territory, writes the Wall Street Journal. https://www.wsj.com/world/trump-told-zelensky-he-was-open-to-providing-new-long-range-weapons-officials-say-b9cfabf4 But I think these are just empty words, like much else that Trump says.

Meanwhile, russia announced strikes by russian drones on NATO facilities in Romania and Poland and in advance laid the responsibility for them on Ukraine. The corresponding statement was made by the official spokesperson of the russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. Referring to the Hungarian media, she said that Ukraine was allegedly preparing a provocation with the aim of drawing NATO into a direct war with russia. According to her, the "plan of the Kyiv regime" is to repair several captured russian drones, fill them with explosives and launch them at major NATO transport hubs in Poland and Romania. https://uazmi.org/news/post/10012e28db23d3386df18d53caf88dc7

Another sleepless night due to a major attack on Kyiv. The barrage - involving nearly 600 drones and several dozen missiles aimed at seven regions of Ukraine - is one of the heaviest in recent months. There were both direct hits by 31 drones and 5 missiles of various types, and a lot of destruction due to falling debris. In addition to the usual buzzing of drones and the hum of missiles flying overhead, this time there were new sounds from the work of air defense. There were no hits in my area, but explosions in other areas of the city were clearly audible. Overall, given that there is still electricity and water, such strikes on Kyiv are not very effective.

https://glavred.net/war/popala-na-foto-v-vozdushnyh-silah-nazvali-osobennost-udara-rf-po-kievu-10701977.html?utm_source=ukrnet_news

In Vinnytsia region, critical infrastructure and a residential building were damaged as a result of a massive russian attack on the night of Saturday, September 27. https://nv.ua/ukr/ukraine/events/udar-po-vinnickiy-oblasti-ye-vluchannya-v-kritichnu-infrastrukturu-ruh-potyagiv-vidnovili-50548366.html

For the second day in a row, the russians have been shelling Chernihiv and the region, including critical infrastructure in the region. As a result, many people have been left without electricity, there are disruptions to transport, and residents are being asked to stock up on water. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cqxzyzxnp1do

If the russian federation threatens to blackout Kyiv, then russians should know that in response, a blackout will also occur in Moscow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stated. https://sud.ua/uk/news/ukraine/342178-vladimir-zelenskiy-esli-rf-ugrozhaet-blekautom-kievu-moskva-takzhe-ostanetsya-bez-sveta Let's see how he fulfills another promise.

However, Mr Zelensky has acknowledged that liberating occupied territories by armed force is no longer possible and diplomatic options would need to be pursued.
Only a quarter of Ukrainians want to fight russia to the end, according to a Gallup poll published on Thursday, revealing the public’s plummeting belief in achieving victory. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/08/07/ukraine-russia-putin-trump-zelensky/

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, has stated that near Dobropillya in the Pokrovske direction, where russian troops managed to penetrate Ukrainian defenses a month ago, the russians are "trapped" and "sitting in a bag."

As a source in the military command told BBC News Ukraine, the actions of the Ukrainian army in this direction are the "counteroffensive" that, as American media wrote, was recently reported to Donald Trump. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cy7pmy03dxpo

I would listen to his statements with great caution, given the previous "success" of the offensive in the Kursk region of ussia, which ended in nothing, but a large number of people and equipment were lost.

There will be a new branch of the armed forces in Ukraine. Although this was announced directly by President Volodymyr Zelensky, they are already called the "personal guard" and "fire brigade" of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky, writes BBC.  https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/cwyl88ke0xjo

As of September 2025, the following types and branches of the armed forces exist in Ukraine: Ground, Air, Naval, and Airborne Assault Forces, Signal Forces plus the Terroir Defense Forces, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Medical Forces, Support Forces, and Logistics Forces. Now the Assault Forces are being added to them.

We must not forget that each of these military organisms has its own command, budget, and a certain level of autonomy.

Some believe that the idea of creating a "personal guard" appeared in the commander-in-chief last summer, when Syrsky unexpectedly encountered resistance from some commanders of the Airborne Assault Forces, who did not understand the expediency of the Kursk operation. The way out of the situation for the commander-in-chief was the creation of absolutely loyal assault units that are ready to perform the most difficult tasks, including on the territory of the russian federation, without any unnecessary questions.

The commander-in-chief appeals to the high efficiency that the assault units have demonstrated this year. That is why they must be scaled up to a separate branch of the troops, he believes.
In his opinion, they cannot be attached to the Airborne Assault Forces, because, despite the similarity of their names, they currently perform completely different functions on the battlefield.

Perhaps the main problem remains where to get enough brave and trained stormtroopers, whose life expectancy is on average several months, since the effectiveness of these units is directly related to the rigid style of command and excessively high losses.

Meanwhile, mobilization in Ukraine sometimes takes strange forms, which does not increase the number of those wishing to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The fact that mobilization is sometimes a form of punishment and persecution, even of lawyers, has long been no surprise to anyone. https://unba.org.ua/news/10736-tisk-cherez-mobilizaciyu-ta-kriminal-ni-spravi-hto-zahistit-advokativ.html

Meanwhile, mobilization in Ukraine sometimes takes strange forms, which does not increase the number of those wishing to join the Armed Forces.

The fact that mobilization is sometimes a form of punishment and persecution, even of lawyers, has long been no surprise to anyone.

The case of the mobilization of the sole caregiver of a seriously ill 82-year-old bedridden father, who was unable to submit the necessary documents to the mobilization center due to the reorganization of another state body that did not issue the necessary certificate in time, ended relatively well. He was temporarily released to complete the documents. They say that this story became known throughout Ukraine because the hungry cows and other domestic animals, which were also left without care, made a fuss. Perhaps they saved the old man's life when the neighbors heard the noise. https://hromadske.ua/rehiony/252111-mene-povely-do-nachalnyka-ttsk-ale-po-dorozi-zakryly-mobilizovanoho-syna-cholovika-z-invalidnistiu-tymchasovoho-vidpustyly

A less well-known story is that of a girl who has been sitting for several days near the mobilization center where her husband was taken. https://24tv.ua/divchina-nochuye-pid-ttsk-cherez-mobilizatsiyu-cholovika-video_n2921638

But what I liked most was the information from one lawyer, who was contacted by people who suddenly found out that they had already been mobilized without their knowledge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9iJei-v1kM

Mobilization rules change so often that it is difficult even for lawyers to keep up with them. Not so long ago, the authorities decided to automatically register all men in absentia based on data from various registers, which were often outdated and erroneous. Because of this, many men learned firsthand what it was like to be an enemy of the state, as in the 1998 film of the same name, since any discrepancy in data was used against people who received fines and ended up on the wanted list.

But this time, some men discovered that their status had changed from "conscript" to "military serviceman" and they were supposedly already serving in the army as soldiers. A direct consequence of this could be criminal prosecution as deserters if the police met them and decided to check their documents. After all, it will be very difficult to prove that this person was never mobilized at all, and did not desert. In a country obsessed with digitalization, what matters now is what is entered into the electronic register, and not what actually exists. Maybe this is a technical error, or maybe it was done intentionally, because a salary is accrued for each such fictitious soldier and someone can get crazy money instead of them. No one knows how many such phantom battalions are already "fighting" in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Wlad, I’m glad you are feeling a bit better! Sleep is SO important but is not given enough credit and priority in our modern, clock-driven world. (I don’t get enough of it myself because of waking to go to the toilet and also common sleep pattern issues in the elderly.)

Good news that Seva finished school! However I’m not sure how to feel about to his plan to come back to Ukraine. Of course it would be great for you to be with each other, and for him to be back in his own country, but wouldn’t he be trapped and subject to mobilization in just a couple of years?

I agree that Russia is in many ways a vassal to China now. A big impediment to China retaking lands ceded to Russia in the 1800’s is that Russia has key pacific fleet and nuclear sub bases there so Russia won’t simply walk away from them.

China’s primary territorial goal is to recover Taiwan, and sooner rather than later. Would the isolationist, vacillating and feckless Trump come to Taiwan’s defense? I doubt it. China taking Taiwan seems to be inevitable eventually anyway.

On Trump saying he is “ready” to lift long range weapons restrictions on Ukraine: He is always saying things that might sound reassuring but fall far short of committment. It’s a very typical ploy of his to string people along while avoiding a decision for which he would have to accept the consequences, good or bad.

PS: My wife had a good analogy for this tactic of Trump’s. It’s like making a cat chase the bright spot of a laser pointer. There’s actually nothing physical there, it only looks like it to the cat.

I am concerned that he only received a bachelor's degree and does not want to continue his studies to get a master's degree. I cannot understand this, because for me education is the highest value, which, by the way, is always with you, unlike material things that can be lost very easily and quickly.

Maybe this is connected with the new values of the new generation. He told me something about the senselessness of planning in a world full of uncertainty. But since it was never possible to convince him of anything, I do not even try to do this. I have expressed my opinion on everything and how I would have acted. Next, he is responsible for his actions and life.

As for the Chinese, I've heard a lot of stories and seen those short videos showing the quiet penetration of the Chinese into the russian Far East. There are already many settlements exclusively made up of Chinese, and in the surrounding russian cities, most of the goods were imported from China, and even those made locally have inscriptions in Chinese hieroglyphs. It's interesting that the local russians are learning Chinese, and not the other way around.

Trump, on the other hand, remains surprisingly consistent. He does not prevent the russians from advancing towards seemingly pre-agreed borders.

Despite the sharp deterioration in the attitude towards Ukrainians within Poland, the Polish authorities are not so crazy as not to understand that the defeat of Ukraine will move the front to its territory.

The President of Poland has signed a law to continue funding the subscription fee for Starlink terminals in Ukraine. This technology is critical for maintaining communications in hospitals, schools and frontline regions. https://unn.ua/news/polshcha-prodovzhyt-finansuvannia-starlink-dlia-ukrainy

Without firing a shot, russian President Vladimir putin has over the past week managed to bring the war in Ukraine to millions of Europeans largely untouched by the conflict, writes CNN, commenting on numerous drone provocations in the skies of Europe and other signs of hybrid warfare. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/09/27/europe/putin-hybrid-war-europe-risks-intl

The amount of the European Union's "reparation loan" for Ukraine could be up to 130 billion euros. The final amount will be agreed with the International Monetary Fund, Reuters writes, citing officials. https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/eu-reparations-loan-ukraine-could-be-up-130-billion-euros-officials-say-2025-09-24/

Meanwhile, Ukraine's total public and state-guaranteed debt as of the end of August reached $192.71 billion, an increase of $6.58 billion over the month, according to the Ministry of Finance. https://epravda.com.ua/finances/yakiy-derzhavniy-borg-ukrajini-stanom-na-serpen-2025-812207/

The air temperature in Ukraine has dropped and the russians have predictably focused on destroying Ukraine's energy sector. In recent days, many settlements in eastern and northern Ukraine have been without power.

A partial power outage occurred in Dnipro - before the power went out, the city was illuminated by a bright flash of blue. Similar problems were also recorded in Zaporizhia. https://www.obozrevatel.com/ukr/ekonomika-glavnaya/communalka/v-dnipri-vidklyuchilosya-svitlo-pislya-zagadkovogo-spalahu-scho-kazhut-energetiki.htm

Part of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions was also left without electricity. https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/articles/c20v2ev8nj0o

On the night of Wednesday, October 1, russian forces launched a massive attack on Kharkiv and its suburbs, using both guided aerial bombs (GABs) and missiles. The strike resulted in destruction of civilian infrastructure, fires, and, according to preliminary data, six civilian casualties. https://apostrophe.ua/ua/news/society/accidents/2025-10-01/rosiya-atakuvala-harkiv-ta-peredmistya--ye-postrazhdali-ruynuvannya-ta-pozhezhi/352816

Also they launched 49 drones, one anti-ship missile, and four ballistic missiles into Ukrainian territory, and air defense forces managed to neutralize 46 UAVs. The missiles were not shot down. https://ukranews.com/ua/news/1108640-vnochi-rf-vdaryla-po-ukrayini-balistychnymy-raketamy-zbyty-yih-ne-vdalosya

russian drones have begun attacking moving targets. Drones with night cameras have struck a moving Ukrainian railway train: the UAVs have night optics, a guidance system and communication for hundreds of kilometers. An Nvidia mini-computer capable of simultaneously processing video and identifying targets was found among the wreckage. https://militarnyi.com/uk/news/novi-rosijski-shahedy-rozbyly-ukrayinskyj-zaliznychnyj-eshelon-na-chernigivshhyni/

I had a similar discussion with my older son. He chose to study electrical engineering but decided against the baccalaureate plus masters program at the cost of only one more year in school despite my advice. (EE was also my profession, but I did not encourage him in that direction. Genetics? - lol).

Of course there ample reasons for Putin to intimidate Europe, but is it mere coincidence that the “mysterious” drone flights into EU countries began around the time that EU are seriously preparing for reparations payments from impounded Russian funds, and that Putin warned that doing so would trigger retaliatory actions?

Ah yes, reliable Trump. I would say he is “steadfastly feckless”. I don’t see him confronting Putin in any effective or military way unless forced to by events that even he cannot ignore or weasel his way around.
